I thought it would be fun if I started a mini series about my vintage hat collection. You’ve seen a few of them on here already, but some of them don’t get seen often, and well, vintage hats!, I love them and thought they deserve a spotlight on this blog. My collection is not nearly as extensive as one might think, but I can show you what I do have and then hopefully just continue adding to this series as I get more, because one can never have too many vintage hats.
This gal here – I have named her Susie (I also thought it would be fun to name all my hats for this series) – hailing from the 1950s, is a pillbox hat with a veil and a sweet lil’ bow. I got Susie at one of my favourite vintage shops, Public Butter. I think she was actually the first vintage hat I ever purchased for myself, and thus, very special to me.
Name: Susie
Age: 60-65yrs (1950s)
Talents: is pink, has a bow, has a veil, makes you feel really cute, makes you think of candy, the fun-loving quirky girl of the hat world
Do you guys love vintage hats? Tell me about your favourites.
Hat: vintage via Public Butter
Blouse: vintage via Common Sort
Lipstick: So Chaud by Mac
Nail polish: 5th Avenue by Essie
Love this!

Such a pretty hat. I love vintage velvet, it always feels so more plush than the cheapy modern stuff. I don’t have as many vintage hats as I would like, I don’t wear them very often but they are beautiful objects in themselves. I have a 1960s rabbit pill box with peachy-pink bow, an ivy green sixties bow headband, a 1950s headband with fruits and a 1930s/1040s cornflower blue sun hat. This month, though, I may be treating myself to a gorgeous navy hat by Christie’s, a company still handmaking hats in Oxford, England. I look forward to seeing the rest of your wonderful collection.

well it sounds to me like you’ve got a nice start to your collection – all those sound so lovely. I as well don’t have as many as I’d like, but I figure collecting slowly and really loving each piece is far better than having a ton you feel so so about. I’ve looked into buying a “lot” on ebay so I can end up wit a ton of vintage hats all at once. sometimes you get lucky and get some really awesome ones, but you can also end up with some crap ones. I still have yet to find a lot I’m particularly smitten with that has at least a few hats I really like.
Thanks for reading 🙂

Omg, this is sure to be an awesome series! 🙂 I love a good chapeau and even work in a little hat shop, but own relatively few. I’m currently obsessing over this one: http://etudes-studio.com/sesam-hat-blue ❤
