The Sorceress

TheSorceress1 Isn’t Sarah Sophie Flicker one of the most stunning and interesting women of our generation? I admire her not only for donning the most exquisite garb on a regular basis, but also for always being an inspiration to young and older women alike. She’s all kinds of beautiful, inside and out. It seems when you put Shae Detar and Sarah Sophie together you get a whole lot of magic in the form of dreamy vintage inspired portraits with some of the most breathtaking garments. It’s like my form of substance dependence…pretty gals, wearing pretty things, making pretty things. I love it, and I don’t think I will ever grow tired of it.

Samantha Pleet Fall 2014

Visions-PosterYet again, I had been eagerly anticipating the release of Samantha Pleet Fall 2014 collection and film, and catching glimpses on social media of all the goodness and magical vibes she always puts out in the world. Remaining true to her vision as a designer (no pun intended), Samantha pulled from historical references, this time inspired by Joan of Arc. Samantha is surrounded by such beautiful talent, there is such an array of perfection she can have model her wonderful pieces and really do them justice — it’s stunning to see, really.

Now, the clothes! This could be my favourite collection yet, if only for the magnificent prints — comet print, storm print and illuminated print are breathtaking! Samantha creates simple silhouettes that fit the female form beautifully, but have their own interesting twists which makes the garment feel like something totally new, and totally it’s own. I would love to get my hands on the Noble Dress in Comet Print, the Passion Dress, and the Cloudling Dress, to name a few.

Lauren Winter February Collection

12222482453_6f76ba5cb5_o

You may already be quite familiar with Lauren Winter if you have been following this blog since it’s inception, or well, if you follow any fashion bloggers who supports independent designers. – she’s been around for awhile. Under the former name Blooming Leopold, she has re-branded her site and line to go by her own name, Lauren Winter. Seeing her newest collection, the new name makes sense to me. Her designs have matured quite a bit since her very first collection. They are simple, body-conscious, modern and sweetly feminine (without stinging them teeths). Lauren wanted to create a collection that transitioned seamlessly from late winter to early spring, and boy did she deliver. You can find silk shift dresses, light-weight tops, cardigans both in silk and boiled wool, and a jumpsuit in bamboo rayon. After seeing these new designs, and comparing to the former, it really makes me believe in Lauren as a designer (not that I didn’t before). Though this collection feels wholly different from some of her past ones that I adored oh so much, it shows what range she really has. Lauren can do cutesy gal and flip to sophisticated woman in the blink of an eye, and that is something I truly admire.

You can shop the whole collection here!

Her

honey-kennedy-yo-vintage-her-lookbook-01

The new Yo Vintage! lookbook entitled “Her” (yes, inspired by the movie) is just fantastic. It captures a feeling that I didn’t even realize I love about time spent alone. It’s like it tapped into my subconscious and said “hey! this is just the sort of thing you thrive on. just the sort of thing you anticipate after long busy days.” There is something absolutely perfect to me about lazing around the home in clothes that feel like they should only be worn when out. Or maybe the feeling I am getting is the moments and the process of getting ready before stepping out, or coming home after a night out, a little disheveled from the evening’s events. Either way, it’s romantic, cozy and quiet, just the way I like most days to be (or at least, a few hours of the day).

Emma Portner

tumblr_my89amxFlv1qkr2o8o1_500

There are some people in this world who are so wholly beautiful and themselves that it can inspire you in such a profound way, but also make you feel so inadequate.  Emma Portner is among those people. Not only is she one of THE MOST brilliant dancers that lives and breathes on this planet, she is also an incredible photographer. Some people are just mean’t to share who they are, and nothing can hold them down.

I have known Emma for years. Hailing from Ottawa, she moved to New York City to live out her dreams, but you could argue that she is a gypsy-nomad of sorts. She travels all over North America sharing her dancing brilliance, and documenting some beautiful moments along the way. I feel elated knowing someone who stays so true to their art, and really lives and breathes it every day.  There is nothing disingenuous about this young girl with an old soul. There is something to be said about a person who is fearless, and so unrelenting in all that they do.

If you haven’t checked out her work, both in dance and photography, you should. You will not be disappointed.
