May in June

It had been quite awhile since I set off just myself to take outfit photos. It’s far more convenient to have others help me out, but I certainly missed the process of shooting myself. I will admit though, I think I needed the break. I was feeling a bit apathetic about the images and content I was creating for this space, which I’ve come to gather is why there has been far less posting around these parts. However, I was welcomed home from Mexico with a new lens, care of Zach (sweet one, he is), and I’m feeling pretty excited and rejuvenated by it. I guess it’s fitting that a new lens can literally change your perspective.

As for the May dress, it’s my latest one from ACT THREE.‘s most recent collection, and I think my favourite from the label yet. I am usually not very drawn to 50s – early 60s silhouettes, but this dress still felt well suited to me, and once I tried it on it quickly became a favourite for the summer. The thing about this dress, the first time I wore it, I really felt great in it. It’s not too short, it’s not too tight, the fabric feels sturdy but lightweight enough for summer and it has sweet details like wooden buttons up the front and tied shoulder straps. It’s a gem this one, but I wouldn’t expect anything less from ACT THREE.

Teetotum

We were pretty lucky to be staying on a strip with some of the most adorable hotels and hostels we saw in Tulum. One of the things I loved most about the hotels, restaurants and bars was their use of outdoor space — pretty much everything is outside, covered with a roof and some walls, but outside, no less. Coming from a place like Toronto where that type of outdoor space would never come to fruition because of the impending winter, it truly felt special to eat and drink at every spot we went to. If I could, I would do everything outside, which made Tulum pretty perfect for me.

Teetotum Hotel was one of our favourites because it was so close to our hotel, the people were so friendly, the dogs were v cute, and the thing that originally brought us in, the colors and design, are stunning. We can’t speak to the stay there, since we only had coffee, smoothies and breakfast (delicious, though), but if it’s anything like the service we received from our short interaction with the lovely lady working the front space, then it’s probably great. It’s a bit more pricey – especially during the busy season – than the hotel we were at, but it would be well worth staying there a couple nights, I’m sure.

Mexico Colours

Larkspur Vintage | Mexico ColoursLarkspur Vintage | Mexico ColoursTULUM, I LOVE YOU

Well I am back from Tulum, and I’m not even sure where to begin. I guess I can start by saying there was a pretty large fuck up on my part before we left – I didn’t realize my passport was expired until a day before we were leaving, which made me really think I wasn’t even going to make it to Mexico. But, thanks to my seriously amazing calm and collected boyfriend, we got it all worked out in a single day and I made it to Tulum just as we planned. fucking PHEW!

Mexico is an overwhelmingly beautiful place. I pretty much fell in love with it the second we passed through Playa del Carmen on our way to Tulum. I feel as though I have a lot to say about Mexico and Tulum and the people I met and the things I saw, but not right now. I have many pictures to share, so I’ll be able to do that in the next few posts, but I’m still pretty tired from non stop moving and little sleep, so today probably isn’t the best time to really get into it. Mush brain, y’know.

I will say, I have never travelled much in my life. I’ve lived on my own since I was 19, in Toronto, an incredibly expensive city, which has always made it hard for me to have the money or time to travel. But now that I have seen Mexico, I have become totally enamored with visiting more of it, the surrounding countries and South America. I now get why people become obsessed with travel. It’s weirdly addictive and eye opening.  Anyways, I’ll leave you with these images Kristen shot of me in a neighbourhood close to downtown Tulum. So cute, right?!

Blue Jumpsuit Apparatus

I feel a bit of writer’s block these days. Although the visual part of my blog is hugely important to me, I want the written content to be another reason people continue to come back to this space. After all, I feel far more connection to the bloggers who actually write, and more specifically, write about their lives, thoughts and opinions, accompanied with beautiful images. So it’s something I strive for with this blog. With the internet being a place where envy can grow to insurmountable heights, I like the idea of realness and truth – that no one’s life is worth more or less, that it cannot be measured by anything, especially not by follower count or how full and interesting your life looks on the outside. So I like writing. I like writing so I can be open and true and make connections in a real way. But sometimes it’s tiring to feel like there is always something that needs to be said, and my mind just sort of draws a blank when it comes to writing these posts. And as I re-read this, I realize I have said quite a lot for someone with writer’s block…I guess I’ve made a liar of myself. Oops.

As you know, I like to keep this space entirely run by me, so Zach has never shot a full length outfit post for me. But it was due time he popped in. He takes beautiful images, which I have said a squillion times, at this point, but it’s true (I feel proud, ok!). I received this jumpsuit from Little Teacup Vintage on Saturday and fell pretty hard for it, so I enlisted the help of Zach to capture it’s awesomeness. And of course he went above and beyond, giving your eyeballs that beautiful light to behold and capturing some pretty dear moments.

Orange You Glad

Larkspur Vintage | Orange You GladLarkspur Vintage | Orange You Gladto see me

It seems orange has quickly become a favourite colour of mine. I find the common denominator amongst many pieces I like is orange, not just in clothes, but in most anything. There have been a number of times now that Zach has laughed at me for wearing something that blends right into his couch. So I figured, if you can’t beat em, join em.

Zach just got in from his road trip last night and I’m pretty happy to have him back. Although, admittedly, I’ll miss living vicariously through his and Andrew’s beautiful pictures. But, I’ll be setting off to Tulum in 12 days, which as I type that makes me realize how soon that is! We still have some planning to do, so if you have any recommendations of where to eat and places to visit that maybe aren’t as popular, let us know. We want to see. it. all.
