Phoenicia, NY

I recently got back from a week of eating delicious food, hiking to secret swimming holes, trekking around a chasm, lounging by a (gorgeous) pool and drinking beers with my best friend of fifteen years. It was hands down the best vacation I’ve taken in years.

We heard about the Graham & Co through Design Sponge, and I have endless good things to say about the place. The rooms are adorable, the staff is so friendly, the pool is amazing! …they project movies onto a sheet outside at night (which is awesome, even if Stef and I were both hoping for Jurassic Park, and instead it was Willy Wonka…) and have campfires for everyone, there are hiking trails right nearby, and the town of Phoenicia is quintessential small town America. We ate at the Phoenicia diner every single day, and drank beers in the garage area, and had the best time just laughing at old inside jokes and posting ridiculous videos to the internet.

I was sad to leave the Catskills, but when we got to Montreal we barbecued with our friends, and went for breakfast, and got celebratory 15 year anniversary friendship tattoos. I got to meet my cousins brand new baby, and hang out with my parents and sister a little. And when I got back to Toronto, I went to Kira’s going away party and helped her move all her things to Hamilton. All together, it was the best week ever.

Today, it’s back to reality for me –  I have a million e-mails to catch up on, but I’m kind of excited to get back to eating healthy, and going to yoga and pilates and walking my dogs every day.

I ended my vacation on the best note last night, lighting fireworks on the beach in Toronto to celebrate Canada Day with a bunch of my favourite people. So I can’t complain 🙂

It’s raining today, but I don’t really mind. I took the subway to work instead of riding my bike, and it was nice to be able to sit down and read a little (ever since seeing Gatsby, I’ve been meaning to work my way through my Fitzgerald collection again). This afternoon, my office is going to a baseball game, and even though I don’t really love sports and I’m bad at socializing, I’m kind of excited about it. My sister gets here Thursday night, and I couldn’t be more excited. Sister weekends mean lots of laughing and adventuring, pasta eating and maybe also tv watching. I can’t wait.

I hope everyone else has managed to make the best of a grey day (or maybe you live somewhere where it’s sunny and summery and you’re sitting by a pool and then I am probably pretty jealous of you). Either way – happy Tuesday!

Lauren Moffatt (belated) SS13

22

There couldn’t be a collection more suited to my idea of Spring and Summer than Lauren Moffatt’s SS13 collection. Perfect outfits for date nights to ice cream shops, sangria in the park, outdoor movies, lakeside bike rides and girls nights eating oysters & drinking champagne on a patio somewhere.

I’m well aware how late I am on posting this, but until recently there was no point torturing myself with Spring/Summer collections at all. But it’s warm now, and with my first sunburn of the season, comes my first post about Summer clothes. So bear with me while I make my way through all the amazing collections that have already  been covered by every other blog out there!

My best friend Stef and I finally got our act together this year, and planned our first ever friend-vacation in the 15 years we’ve known each other! We’ve got a pretty awesome long weekend booked at The Graham & Co. in the Catskills, NY, where we intend on doing a lot of hiking, poolside lounging, funky antique hunting and coffee/cocktail drinking. It’s a little under two months away, which feels like an eternity at this point, but I have no doubt with the weather getting nicer, that the time will fly by and we’ll be sipping mojitos by the fireside before we know it.

In the freaky little daydream montage that loops in my head when I think about the trip –  these are the outfits I would be wearing!!

Brooklyn to West

ariele_alasko_01

Interior design and DIY blogs have a tendency to send me into hours-long day dreams about how I want to decorate/re-decorate my apartment. Brooklyn to West happens to be one of my favourites, and also probably the blog/shop that helps me procrastinate on all my real-life work the most.

Ariele Alasko is the mastermind behind Brooklyn to West – a DIY/Interior Design genius, who not only created the company, but designs and builds all the pieces in the shop herself. She also opened a restaurant in Pacific Grove (California) that serves up some of the most delicious looking pasta dishes I’ve ever seen.

I’m not feeling all that eloquent this morning, so I’ll leave you with the links to her Shop/Blog/Restaurant, and let them do the talking for me!
