Identical Twins

2848101406I’m loving these images of twins Amanda and Emilia Musacchia wearing matching garments from Samantha Pleet’s SS ’15 collection. Is there anything more striking than twins in matching outfits? I’ve always had a fascination with identical twins, especially when they are clothed the same. Now, you might think how often does that happen? But I used to see these two women, identical twins, wearing the exact same outfit, every single day. It got me wondering about them, and their lives and what it feels like to have someone who is so genetically similar to you.

All that aside, I love these images for how simple they are and how they feel like film stills, which is always my favourite photography – it does not seem over produced, but rather, casual and honest, capturing moments in time and life as it happens.

Rain Rain…

The weekend’s weather was rather shit, which was a bit disappointing but probably for the best as Ryan and I were able to reorganize some things in our apartment (I feel like I’m always saying that, but its ALWAYS a work in progress) and I got caught up on some much needed rest (youtube subscriptions). We did manage to pop out for a bit when the rain wasn’t so intense to snap these photos, and I figured I’d fight the dreary weather with a somewhat bright and psychedelic outfit. This vest actually comes from a set and it’s matching friend is in the form of a white drop waist button up collared dress with matching psychedelic pattern on the skirt. I’ll have to show you the full set one day, but for now you just get the vest. I’m not sure why I never thought to pair it with something outside of it’s designated dress friend until yesterday, but maybe it’s because I don’t own that many solid colored skirts and it’s obviously not a very ideal pattern to pair with another pattern. Although, that seems like a personal styling test of some sort and I think I’m up for the challenge.

How was your weekend friends? I feel like you’ve been a bit quiet lately, not sure why, but I would love to hear from you!

Grammy Dress

I refer to this dress as my Grammy (like Grandma…not the music awards) dress. It’s 80s does 40s which is probably why it’s so appealing to me. I don’t much care for 80s fashion except when it’s pretending to be a different era. The reason I call it my Grammy dress is I feel like in it’s heyday it was worn –  but I suspect it wasn’t exactly a “stylish” dress – and then when 80s fashion was passe it got ignored and sent to a thrift store, not being seen for what it really was and to become just another 80s misfit. It has the characteristics of 80s awfulness -.big gaudy flowers, sort of shapeless when on a hanger, the midi length, big shoulders…a perfect mix for a big ol’ pass when browsing a shop, and most likely something most young people would ignore entirely. But I fell in love with the colours, and I love a good midi length dress in the summer that I can just slip on and go about my day, so I gave it a shot and was even more pleased when it seemed to be my size. I really believe you can make almost any article of clothing work if it is styled right. Sometimes you have to give the misfits and Grammies of the world a chance to prove themselves…they may just surprise the heck out of you.

What about you guys? Do you have any misfit or Grammy clothes?

Beauty / Notre Dame Apothecary

I’m often amazed with the wonderful things my talented friends do/create, and Montreal pal Stefanie Anderson is no exception. In 2014 Stef began studying Holistic Aromatherapy and from that was born her all-natural (and cruelty-free) essential oil based product line, Notre Dame Apothecary. My interest in skincare has really increased recently, so when Stef handed me her Balancing Facial Serum to try I was like a kid in a candy shop. I genuinely love this product, and I’m not saying that because Stef is a friend. Containing selected oils such as rosehips, jojoba, neroli, frankincense, geranium and roman chamomile, this product is liquid magic (imo).

While my skin is fairly blemish free most of the time, I do get zits right before my period and they tend to linger for much longer than I’d like. I had recently bought Mario Badescu Drying Lotion to help with the break outs, but honestly, I don’t love it as much as everyone else does, it’s okay, but it’s not amazing (everyones skin is different though). Stef gave me this right during the time when I was having a breakout, so that evening I applied the oil on it’s own – no drying lotion – and went to sleep. I awoke to a face that felt smooth, the redness of the zits had gone and they amazingly seemed less inflamed (ie., not painful). I now apply morning and night in place of a moisturizer and I think it works just as well, if not better, at keeping my face hydrated throughout the day. I was always weary of facial oils – I mean, it seems weird to put oil on your face – while my face does get fairly dry, I worried that oil would make it greasy and cause insane breakouts, but that is just not the case, at least for me. When I use this product I really feel like I am caring for my skin, and that gives me a real sense of gratification. Needless to say, it will be staying in my daily skincare routine, forevermore.

Jimmy Marble: The Hottest Day of The Year

REFINERY-IG-1-600x900Jimmy Marble‘s use of colour, pattern, objects and the human form is some of the most intriguing and inspiring visuals I have ever laid my eyes on. It often feels like nothing is on accident, that each part of every image has been thought out and presented just the way he intended, which to me, is the work of a wholly unique and true artist. For me, Jimmy is more than a photographer (well ya, he does a whole lot more than that), he’s very much a visual artist in every sense of the word. His work feels like a true labor of love, and probably why it stands out from much else I have seen these days.
