Getting myself ready for a wedding, and wearing my newest (to me) vintage dress from Milk Teeths Vintage. Also noticing my bangs are a bit too long. I think I prefer them to be above my eyebrows. Must fix that soon.
2. All packed up and ready to move the last few things from my old apartment.
3. I took a few self-portraits right before leaving that apartment behind.
4. Ryan and I taking selfies, waiting for our cab to the wedding.
5. We stayed at a hotel for the evening after the wedding because it was not in Toronto – didn’t bring much with me.
6. I got to take home one of the beautiful centrepieces from the wedding, made by my pal Alisa.
7. I adore this fella.
8. I’m really trying to be mindful about organizing and decorating our new place. I want it to be perfect – minimal and elegant, with a whole lot of quirkiness. This is the only spot so far that feels right to me. It’s a work in progress.

Ace & Jig FW 14

AceJig_016_1366.1366x2048While I feel there are a lot of brands out there that I really like, quite a few of them subscribe to a style that is not really that of my own. Ace & Jig is sort of that way for me. Styling is a big part of how labels present their clothing, however, it really is only a presentation and not much more than that. So even if it’s not suited to me, in most cases, I tend to look at pieces as separates rather than a whole (let’s be honest, who can ever afford more than like a few pieces from any one collection anyways). So while it’s pretty blatantly obvious you wouldn’t see me in a head to toe look like this, Ace & Jig FW14 has a lot of pieces I think are absolutely wonderful. All that being said, I actually do adore the styling in this lookbook. It has sort of a vintage-amish-70s vibe, which last Fall, was one of my favourite ways to dress. So maybe some of the silhouettes are not ones I’m used to adorning (a bit too slouchy), I can’t deny my love for pattern mixing, and how it always makes for an interesting outfit…and midi dresses. How one gets through the Fall without wearing a midi dress, I do not know.

Uptights

DSC_0720I have unearthed most of my tights now. It’s sort of a bittersweet feeling. I love Fall weather and dressing myself for the chilly months, but I kind of dislike wearing tights, which is a necessity when you wear dresses/skirts as often as I do. If I could wear bare legs all year round that would be ideal. However, I’m a big fan of white tights, which came about I think only last year. But I don’t much care for black tights, which seems to be the preferred choice of most. With the exception of wearing black shoes with black tights, I find they tend to cut off my legs instead of elongating them, and it makes it very hard for me to see anything but that. I don’t know when I started to notice that, because I used to wear black tights almost religiously. I struggled with this outfit and forcing myself not to just throw on my white tights, as I usually do. But I don’t totally dislike the look. It’s good to force yourself to try different things, and realize maybe the things you notice are only in your head, and others don’t necessarily see or share the same qualms. So, hey black tights, hopefully we’ll become better friends this year.

Gwendy Darling for Miss Robin Fanzine

10372743_545339532260290_1339559869911956970_nBack in May I styled a shoot with photographer & editor-in-chief of Zeum Mag, Danielle Suzanne. I am finally able to share the images with you, as it was just released in the latest issue of Miss Robin Fanzine. You may recognize the model from previous shoots I styled, but this was the first time I met/worked with Gwen (aka Gwendy Darling), although obviously, not the last. I love this girl – she is gorgeous, and silly and just an all around cool chick. As for Danielle, I feel so lucky to have been able to work with her. She is super talented (honestly, you need to check out her work), pretty damn adorable, and also, an all around rad chick. For the styling I used garments from Larkspur, as well as my own personal items and some pieces from Dolores Haze SS14, which I sort-of wish I could have taken home with me.  We shot on Toronto Island, and while it may look like a warm Summer day, it really did not feel like one. Gwen was such a trooper though, traipsing around in a swimsuit and next to nothing. Anyways, enough of my blabbering, I hope you enjoy the images, I’m pretty in love with them.

Into It, Intimates / Thread Beat

il_fullxfull.360020304_1dfqI came across Thread Beat on etsy almost 2 years ago. I immediately fell in love with this labels vibe, mostly for it’s unique sleepwear and intimates. To me, designer Rebecca Tanner-Russell’s inspiration for her sleepwear very distinctly comes from the 1920s to 1930s. I imagine much of these garments to be worn by the mothers of poor families during the Dust Bowl years – pieces worn around the house before covering up in a button down cotton midi dress. But nowadays anyone of these garments could be worn both inside and outside the house. I’d be happy to wear something like the outfit pictured above during the Summer, that is for certain.

My favourites: Button Eyelet Slip Underdress, Cotton Bralette and Bloomer set, Cotton Buttonback Petticoat and Bralette, Cotton Buttonwaist Camisole and Petticoat
