A Year In The Life

OKAY ANDIE | A Year In The LifeHappy New Year M’Loves

I’m not really one for New Year’s resolutions, so you won’t be getting any lists like that here. But when a new year comes, how ever man made it is, you can’t really help but feel like it’s a fresh start, a marker of sorts, for acknowledging the past and looking to the future. This year for me has certainly been up and down, as all years are for everyone, really. I went through depression that felt like it would be the end of me. I had days of complete elation where I felt incredibly lucky to be alive. I learned from a dear friend that to be in a lasting relationship you must choose that person everyday and that sometimes is easy to forget. I met some of the most kind and beautiful people on this planet. I’ve learned new skills that I am proud to have and that I am much too hard on myself. I’ve had moments of feeling like the luckiest person in the world, surrounded by love and moments of hating myself so deeply I wasn’t sure if anyone in this world genuinely liked me. I’ve talked about my feelings and bottled them up. I’ve laid in bed all day watching netflix and got painfully sunburnt swimming in the warm and salty sea. I’ve yelled until it hurt. I’ve laughed until it hurt. I’ve lived the only way I know how. As I do, everyday, of every year.

There are big markers, good and bad, for every year. But years are also made up of small moments and details that weave in and out of the big ones that make up most of our lives. They say you can’t see the forest for the trees, but sometimes acknowledging those trees can help to see the forest for what it is. We are mean’t to do things with our life, but just existing and living is doing something too. It’s okay not to be the best or the worst and it’s okay to have no real plan at all. There is a system and societal structure to this life that can make us feel inadequate and exhausted, but realizing that a slow pace is still a pace, afterall, can be a relief like no other.

As always, thank you guys for being here. I didn’t post near as much as I did in previous years. I’ve written and deleted countless posts for the reason why, but in the end, it probably needs no explanation. I am here now, and that’s all that matters.

I love you all and you enrich my life by just stopping by here. I hope my words and images do the same for you.

Larkspur Vintage for Zeum Issue 11

Zeum Magazine Issue 11I’m happy to finally share that I (along with some other rad ladies) was interviewed for Zeum Issue 11. This stunning publication has now been released on UK stands and will be coming to Toronto, Japan and Austria very soon. If you’ve been reading this blog for a long while, than you know I have worked with Editor-in-chief and fashion photographer extraordinaire, Danielle Suzanne many times and feel so lucky to be a part of this labor of love and well-respected magazine. It still feels surreal when anyone wants to interview me or that even one person would be interested in my life, but hey, the internet is a strange place and I guess I have found my place somewhere in it. The image below was the original image Danielle took of me for the publication, however, I went and chopped my hair off and we thought it made more sense to share my updated look, so my own picture (shot by me) went to print, which also feels pretty surreal, if you ask me.

You can find Zeum irl at these locations. If Zeum doesn’t make it’s way to your part of the world, you can purchase online here (ships internationally), or download a digital copy here.Larkspur Vintage | Larkspur Vintage for Zeum shot by Danielle SuzanneLarkspur Vintage | Larkspur Vintage for Zeum

Danielle almost exclusively shoots on film, so, understandably, things can occasionally go wrong with the images and developing process, which was the case with the outdoor shots from this shoot. But that’s quite alright, I’m quite smitten with how these shots turned out, and I hope you are too.

Discovering Vintage

I had briefly mentioned last week that recently I was approached by StyleKick to be in a video for their YouTube channel. I spent the afternoon at Cabaret Vintage a couple Fridays ago with SK’s fashion editor Gabrielle and fashion photographer Celia making this fun little video. I’m so happy with how it turned out and I hope you guys enjoy it.

Gwendy Darling for Miss Robin Fanzine

10372743_545339532260290_1339559869911956970_nBack in May I styled a shoot with photographer & editor-in-chief of Zeum Mag, Danielle Suzanne. I am finally able to share the images with you, as it was just released in the latest issue of Miss Robin Fanzine. You may recognize the model from previous shoots I styled, but this was the first time I met/worked with Gwen (aka Gwendy Darling), although obviously, not the last. I love this girl – she is gorgeous, and silly and just an all around cool chick. As for Danielle, I feel so lucky to have been able to work with her. She is super talented (honestly, you need to check out her work), pretty damn adorable, and also, an all around rad chick. For the styling I used garments from Larkspur, as well as my own personal items and some pieces from Dolores Haze SS14, which I sort-of wish I could have taken home with me.  We shot on Toronto Island, and while it may look like a warm Summer day, it really did not feel like one. Gwen was such a trooper though, traipsing around in a swimsuit and next to nothing. Anyways, enough of my blabbering, I hope you enjoy the images, I’m pretty in love with them.
