Holly Jolly

DSC_1753I thought since Christmas is right around the corner I’d put together a little holiday-inspired outfit. I feel like Mrs. Claus or a little elf, which is fun and fitting for the season. I likely won’t be wearing this outfit for the holidays, though. I don’t normally wear something that feels over the top Christmasy (red and white is just so obvious). Last year I had a lovely white chiffon dress and the year before it was a velvet emerald green shift dress. I’ve got, I think, the most perfect dress for the holidays this year, although I’ve had this dress since last February so I’ve become a little less enamored by it. I’ve got some Christmas shopping to do this evening, so I’m sure you’ll find me in one of my favorite vintage shops in between present-buying to see if I can find something I love. Vintage shops are the best place to find holiday dresses…you never know what you will come across and it’s usually bloody amazing.

Lover of the light

“Whether we act, or don’t act, voila, miraculously, without exception, things turn out exactly the way they do.”

I read that quote years ago in The Second Book of the Tao, and it is one that has stuck with me over the last 6 years. There is something wonderful about reading a phrase that can resonate so wholly with you, that you just never forget it. Over the years I have found myself floundering between really understanding that sentence, and confused by it’s meaning. But the beautiful thing about Taoism is that if you try too hard to understand, then you understand nothing. I guess all there is to know is that it makes me feel at peace with myself and my life. We can try, or we can not try, either way, things will be the way they are.

Giveaway // Ellen Face Vintage

DSC_0879

It is once again, too cold to even fathom the idea of shooting pictures outside. Which, to be honest, is fine by me. I don’t think I could do this dress justice if I had to layer cardigan, upon cardigan, upon coat, and cover all the beautiful details. I’m not sure what it is about an exquisitely crafted white dress, but I cannot get enough of them, and it’s sort of thing that needs no real styling to show how perfect it is.

I received this dress from the wonderful Ellen of Ellen Face Vintage, who curates a darling shop, filled with a lovely selection (and i mean lovely lovely) of vintage. It was no easy task trying to pick from all the negligee, adorable printed blouses/dresses, and an array of unique accessories. Ellen has impeccable taste, and it is clear as day when you visit her shop. Today, Ellen is offering $25 to spend on anything in her shop.

How to enter:

  • Check out her shop, and comment below with your favourite item
  • Favourite her shop on etsy
