Paint Splattered

Things have wind down a bit over here, so my goal is to get back on top of this space. In case you didn’t know, July was a busy month for me. I was working full time, rehearsing for a dance show and working on a month long collaboration with Open Wines, so my days were very full and consequently, exhausting. This space got the brunt of it, unfortunately. But I’m back here today with a new outfit post taken by myself (like old times) wearing a 50s inspired paint splattered print dress from Mona, a clothing brand I have shared here before.

I’m going to keep this post short today because I have a full day off today, so I’m hoping to get quite a bit of work done (so ya’ll have content here!) Have a great day my bbs! And let me know what you have been up to!

Puddle of Mud

Well, my plan was to photograph an outfit (specifically, a dress I have been meaning to shoot for the last little while), and then it rained, hard. As they say, if you can’t beat em, join em…so join the rain we did. I can’t take much credit for an impromptu shoot like this. It was Zach who convinced me to still take pictures, regardless of rain (embracing it, actually), even if it was not the ones I had planned. I threw this outfit together totally based on the fact that I knew I wouldn’t mind getting these pieces wet (although the rain stopped coming down hard once we were out there, of course) and because what’s better than some bright colours and a little bit of Mexico on a gloomy day?

This summer has very much been about comfort, breathable pieces, 70s meets 90s, sometimes minimalism and denim…oh my goodness, a lot of denim. I feel as though the amount of denim I have added to my closet and have been wearing is making up for all the years (like my whole life) of never appreciating it. One thing is for certain when it comes to my personality type, when I decide I’m in, I’m all in.

Being Like…

Lykke WullfLykke wullf

I’ve gone through quite a transition with my personal style, which you wouldn’t even know since  I haven’t really been sharing my outfits here. My style has become a lot less vintage-cutesy-feminine-whatever and I’ve been wearing pants pretty much non stop which is quite different for me. In a sense my style has become a lot more minimalist (ie, trendy) while maintaining some of that vintage feel ya’ll know me for, mostly in the way of the 70s. That’s how I would describe it if I had to. In reality, I’ve just been wearing whatever the hell I want. Some days that’s modern minimalist, other days that’s vintage 70s. Whatever it is, it has been freeing to just not care that my style is kind of indefinable at this point. So all this to say, Lykke Wullf is like a visual reference for me of what my style is or would like to be. It’s 70s inspired while feeling very now. It’s easy, flattering and the perfect union between femme and masculine.

How about you? You feeling these pieces and styling? What are you loving at the moment?

Mexico Colours

Well I am back from Tulum, and I’m not even sure where to begin. I guess I can start by saying there was a pretty large fuck up on my part before we left – I didn’t realize my passport was expired until a day before we were leaving, which made me really think I wasn’t even going to make it to Mexico. But, thanks to my seriously amazing calm and collected boyfriend, we got it all worked out in a single day and I made it to Tulum just as we planned. fucking PHEW!

Mexico is an overwhelmingly beautiful place. I pretty much fell in love with it the second we passed through Playa del Carmen on our way to Tulum. I feel as though I have a lot to say about Mexico and Tulum and the people I met and the things I saw, but not right now. I have many pictures to share, so I’ll be able to do that in the next few posts, but I’m still pretty tired from non stop moving and little sleep, so today probably isn’t the best time to really get into it. Mush brain, y’know.

I will say, I have never travelled much in my life. I’ve lived on my own since I was 19, in Toronto, an incredibly expensive city, which has always made it hard for me to have the money or time to travel. But now that I have seen Mexico, I have become totally enamored with visiting more of it, the surrounding countries and South America. I now get why people become obsessed with travel. It’s weirdly addictive and eye opening.  Anyways, I’ll leave you with these images Kristen shot of me in a neighbourhood close to downtown Tulum. So cute, right?!

Bits Of My Home

Larkspur Vintage | Bits Of My HomeMAISON SPENCE

I’ve had a few requests from you lot to see my apartment, but since it has been a very  s l o w  work in progress since the day I moved in, I haven’t really wanted to share the whole thing – it’s just really not that exciting or noteworthy, at this point. But there are a few bits and bobs from around the apartment that I figured I’d share – mostly in the way of decoration – and some tiny peeks of how things are coming together. If you’ll remember my previous places, I’ve always been a collector of things, but when I moved out of my place with Ryan, I decided to get rid of a lot, only hold onto the things I really loved and live a little more minimalist-y, if you will (it’s so annoying to move when you own a lot of shit). So here we are. It still feels like me – girly, vintage and quirky, but a little more clean and refined.
