Not A Rebel

My pictures have been a little boring as of late. Now that I have moved, I’m trying to seek out new locations that are a little more close by to take my pictures at. My old haunts are still not that far, but they are no longer walking distance, and I much prefer to walk to a location than to take transit. I scoped out a school near by recently that I would really like to take some fun images at, but the gates were all locked and I’m not much of a rebel these days (when did that happen!?). So here we are with a plain old wall. However, my home is coming together (slowly, but surely) and I’m excited to share it with you, in the form of some much more interesting shoots.

Recently most of my outfits have been in shades similar to this one – brown, mustard, black, burnt orange. My fall wardrobe consists mostly of these colours, and it got me thinking I need to add a few more colours to my palette. But for now, this works just fine – why fight the things you obviously like?! I threw this outfit together before a surprise party I went to over the weekend and quite liked it. Sometimes the outfits we throw together with little thought end up being the best ones. I would say, however, if I had a mustard skirt to match my blouse, this outfit would be better. But I’ve been unable to find one anywhere (let a girl know if you have seen any!) Maybe it’s time I bring out the ol’ sewing machine, and make a skirt just like this one in several colours. You can never go wrong with an a-line button down mini. The 70s knew what they were doing when they made this guy, that’s for sure.

Anyways, It’s Thanksgiving Monday, which means I have the day off, and I’ve got some vintage soaking in the tub that needs to be rinsed and hung to dry before they head to their new homes, so I must be off. To all my Canadian readers, Happy Thanksgiving! Hug your parents for me, because I don’t get to see mine.

Uptights

I have unearthed most of my tights now. It’s sort of a bittersweet feeling. I love Fall weather and dressing myself for the chilly months, but I kind of dislike wearing tights, which is a necessity when you wear dresses/skirts as often as I do. If I could wear bare legs all year round that would be ideal. However, I’m a big fan of white tights, which came about I think only last year. But I don’t much care for black tights, which seems to be the preferred choice of most. With the exception of wearing black shoes with black tights, I find they tend to cut off my legs instead of elongating them, and it makes it very hard for me to see anything but that. I don’t know when I started to notice that, because I used to wear black tights almost religiously. I struggled with this outfit and forcing myself not to just throw on my white tights, as I usually do. But I don’t totally dislike the look. It’s good to force yourself to try different things, and realize maybe the things you notice are only in your head, and others don’t necessarily see or share the same qualms. So, hey black tights, hopefully we’ll become better friends this year.

Gwendy Darling for Miss Robin Fanzine

Back in May I styled a shoot with photographer & editor-in-chief of Zeum Mag, Danielle Suzanne. I am finally able to share the images with you, as it was just released in the latest issue of Miss Robin Fanzine. You may recognize the model from previous shoots I styled, but this was the first time I met/worked with Gwen (aka Gwendy Darling), although obviously, not the last. I love this girl – she is gorgeous, and silly and just an all around cool chick. As for Danielle, I feel so lucky to have been able to work with her. She is super talented (honestly, you need to check out her work), pretty damn adorable, and also, an all around rad chick. For the styling I used garments from Larkspur, as well as my own personal items and some pieces from Dolores Haze SS14, which I sort-of wish I could have taken home with me. We shot on Toronto Island, and while it may look like a warm Summer day, it really did not feel like one. Gwen was such a trooper though, traipsing around in a swimsuit and next to nothing. Anyways, enough of my blabbering, I hope you enjoy the images, I’m pretty in love with them.

The Evergladies

So I have officially moved out of The Everglades – my home for the last 3 years. It is such a bittersweet feeling. I do like change, quite a lot, however I do become quite overwhelmed when too much change is happening at once. So this move was not the most fun (let’s just put it that way). But, c’est la vie, as they say. I have so many fond memories of this place. At one point, when I first started living here, 3 of my best friends lived in the building as well. We called ourselves “The Evergladies” and even had patches made (Thanks Kira!). It was the perfect set up. We could hang out any time we wanted, but never got super annoyed with eachother because we didn’t actually reside in the same home. It had a very “Melrose Place” vibe to it. As time passed, more and more friends started moving in to this building (it’s very reasonably priced, and if you know someone living there, it’s pretty easy to get in). It was nice always running into a a familiar face (and having people to borrow things from). But quite a few people have now come and gone, and I guess it was my turn. I decided to search through my archives to make a post with some of the shoots I have done in my now old, apartment. It was one of my favourite places to shoot photos. Mostly because I didn’t have to worry about passerbys staring at me, but also because it provided a fun backdrop. Hopefully my new place will prove to be just as fruitful and just as well loved.

Grace Under Pressure

Well things have been a little chaotic in my life as of late. The blog has been a bit neglected because of how time consuming moving has been for us. We opted not to rent a truck for the move since Ryan has a pickup truck, but that means we have been moving things almost every single day, leaving little time for anything else really. How I ended up owning so many things is beyond me. It’s made me realize I really need to learn to purge my things every once in awhile. Clothes is a BIG one for me (obviously, tee hee). It’s a bit tricky though because it seems most of the clothes taking up space are Larkspur items (oh how I wish I had a studio space!). I realized while moving just how much stuff I have yet to list that have been sitting in my “to-list” bin for what seems like months. I’m looking forward to getting a little more settled in this new space so I can bombard the shop with a ton of new stuff (and hopefully get it out of my closets). Anyways, I just wanted to give a wee update. It pains me a lot when I feel like I just don’t have the time to take pictures for this blog or update it regularly. I put a lot of pressure on myself to make sure I have things to share with you. But Ryan has tried to remind me that things don’t always go as we plan them (I have a hard time accepting that) and it’s okay for me to be busy with “real life” stuff, so I should not beat myself up when I can’t stick to my regular schedule.

Thanks for being patient with me guys. I’m hoping by next week things will be back to normal. I do plan to update this week as much as I can, so keep an eye out. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
