The White Pepper has got me really excited about Spring. So much that I might implode if Winter continues for much longer. I long for days when I can choose an outfit in the morning and know it won’t be covered by layers of cardigans and coats and scarves. The more I get to know myself and my style, the more I realize I much prefer dressing for Spring/Summer. I never get bored with it – it never feels totally repetitive. While I love the idea of dressing for Winter (this doesn’t really include Fall, since it isn’t cold enough to consistently need a coat, and it’s too short a season) I find I become wholly uninspired. Not every dress looks good with tights, I don’t own a cardigan for every outfit, and while I love hats, they can become really annoying when you have to wear them! The White Pepper is really feeding my desire for muted pastels, warm sunny days, flowers (!!!), bare legs and socks, and my always favourite, summery pinafores with collared blouses. What it comes down to is we can be more detailed oriented in the Spring & Summer. I live for details…I think that’s why I love it so much.

No Dumping
Well, I think it’s safe to say Fall is officially here. I pulled out my Fall coat from the depths of my closet this morning, and was so glad to have it wrapped around my body, as there was a distinct chill in the air that even a wooley sweater couldn’t thwart. It’s a bit disappointing really, this Summer felt like it didn’t exist. Winter lasted so long here in Toronto, and Summer was so mild, and so pleasant (and so short), I wasn’t ready for the crisper weather just yet. But alas, I have no say in weather conditions. However, there is something so lovely about bundling up in my warm apartment, with a cup of chocolatey chai tea (and a splash of almond milk), reading a good book, or watching a silly tv show. Winter does have it’s positives, but they mostly exist indoors, under warm blankets, and my ridiculous pup clothed in a mouse outfit because the cold weather is not kind to his skin.
This is a bit of a (huge) photo dump. Mostly film pictures I recently got developed from the Summer that didn’t really find a place in any posts, but I still felt I wanted to share. Some are taken by Meaghan, and I have listed those at the bottom of the post.
*The ones taken during our lookbook shoot with Kira are taken by Meaghan, as well as the one with the camera in front of me face and the back of Kira and my head! Thanks Meaghan!!
Clifton Hill
Niagara Falls is one of those places that is ultra touristy, and could make me feel really overwhelmed and anxious, but instead it makes me really, really, unbelievably happy…
Alex and I have had to postpone shooting our Summer lookbook about a half a dozen times for a million scheduling and weather issues. Sunday was the day that we decided – rain or shine – it had to get done. The weather network spent the week terrorizing us with stupid little lightning bolt symbols and obscenely high P.O.P.s. When Sunday finally rolled around, we woke up to what felt like a monsoon, which put a bit of a damper on our plans to shoot at the Scarborough Bluffs (an escarpment by the water in the East end of Toronto). Luckily, we have a genius by our side, and Kira turned the whole miserable day around by suggesting we drive out to Niagara and shoot a road-trip themed lookbook – which is exactly what we ended up doing, and we couldn’t be more excited to share the end results with you (soon!).
All lookbook related excitement aside though, once we were in Niagara, the weather seemed to take our side again, and we had an absolutely perfect day. We explored the strip with all the weird tacky motels and campgrounds, and ate at a diner shaped like a flying saucer, we shopped at kitchsy souvenir shops and rambled up and down Clifton Hill drinking Slushies and letting ourselves get overwhelmed by all the sights and sounds of the Midway. By the end of the day we had new freckles and frizzy hair from the sun and the humidity, and we were exhausted in a way that only perfect days with best friends can make you feel. We made dinner together and looked through the photos and I went to bed feeling extra sentimental about how much I love my friends.

Lauren Moffatt (belated) SS13
There couldn’t be a collection more suited to my idea of Spring and Summer than Lauren Moffatt’s SS13 collection. Perfect outfits for date nights to ice cream shops, sangria in the park, outdoor movies, lakeside bike rides and girls nights eating oysters & drinking champagne on a patio somewhere.
I’m well aware how late I am on posting this, but until recently there was no point torturing myself with Spring/Summer collections at all. But it’s warm now, and with my first sunburn of the season, comes my first post about Summer clothes. So bear with me while I make my way through all the amazing collections that have already been covered by every other blog out there!
