The Thing About Tulum

it’s stunning in so many ways. I think I was prepared for the natural beauty I saw, but what I didn’t expect was how I would fall for the “urban” parts of the city and it’s colourful facades. The colour palettes and vibrance of this little city is truly something to behold. I could have honestly spent days walking around the downtown neighbourhood photographing Tulum’s disheveled brilliance. It felt as though it spoke volumes of the culture and people who reside there – unassumingly beautiful.

Mexico Colours

Well I am back from Tulum, and I’m not even sure where to begin. I guess I can start by saying there was a pretty large fuck up on my part before we left – I didn’t realize my passport was expired until a day before we were leaving, which made me really think I wasn’t even going to make it to Mexico. But, thanks to my seriously amazing calm and collected boyfriend, we got it all worked out in a single day and I made it to Tulum just as we planned. fucking PHEW!

Mexico is an overwhelmingly beautiful place. I pretty much fell in love with it the second we passed through Playa del Carmen on our way to Tulum. I feel as though I have a lot to say about Mexico and Tulum and the people I met and the things I saw, but not right now. I have many pictures to share, so I’ll be able to do that in the next few posts, but I’m still pretty tired from non stop moving and little sleep, so today probably isn’t the best time to really get into it. Mush brain, y’know.

I will say, I have never travelled much in my life. I’ve lived on my own since I was 19, in Toronto, an incredibly expensive city, which has always made it hard for me to have the money or time to travel. But now that I have seen Mexico, I have become totally enamored with visiting more of it, the surrounding countries and South America. I now get why people become obsessed with travel. It’s weirdly addictive and eye opening.  Anyways, I’ll leave you with these images Kristen shot of me in a neighbourhood close to downtown Tulum. So cute, right?!

Bits Of My Home

Larkspur Vintage | Bits Of My HomeMAISON SPENCE

I’ve had a few requests from you lot to see my apartment, but since it has been a very  s l o w  work in progress since the day I moved in, I haven’t really wanted to share the whole thing – it’s just really not that exciting or noteworthy, at this point. But there are a few bits and bobs from around the apartment that I figured I’d share – mostly in the way of decoration – and some tiny peeks of how things are coming together. If you’ll remember my previous places, I’ve always been a collector of things, but when I moved out of my place with Ryan, I decided to get rid of a lot, only hold onto the things I really loved and live a little more minimalist-y, if you will (it’s so annoying to move when you own a lot of shit). So here we are. It still feels like me – girly, vintage and quirky, but a little more clean and refined.

Blue Jumpsuit Apparatus

I feel a bit of writer’s block these days. Although the visual part of my blog is hugely important to me, I want the written content to be another reason people continue to come back to this space. After all, I feel far more connection to the bloggers who actually write, and more specifically, write about their lives, thoughts and opinions, accompanied with beautiful images. So it’s something I strive for with this blog. With the internet being a place where envy can grow to insurmountable heights, I like the idea of realness and truth – that no one’s life is worth more or less, that it cannot be measured by anything, especially not by follower count or how full and interesting your life looks on the outside. So I like writing. I like writing so I can be open and true and make connections in a real way. But sometimes it’s tiring to feel like there is always something that needs to be said, and my mind just sort of draws a blank when it comes to writing these posts. And as I re-read this, I realize I have said quite a lot for someone with writer’s block…I guess I’ve made a liar of myself. Oops.

As you know, I like to keep this space entirely run by me, so Zach has never shot a full length outfit post for me. But it was due time he popped in. He takes beautiful images, which I have said a squillion times, at this point, but it’s true (I feel proud, ok!). I received this jumpsuit from Little Teacup Vintage on Saturday and fell pretty hard for it, so I enlisted the help of Zach to capture it’s awesomeness. And of course he went above and beyond, giving your eyeballs that beautiful light to behold and capturing some pretty dear moments.

Orange You Glad

It seems orange has quickly become a favourite colour of mine. I find the common denominator amongst many pieces I like is orange, not just in clothes, but in most anything. There have been a number of times now that Zach has laughed at me for wearing something that blends right into his couch. So I figured, if you can’t beat em, join em.

Zach just got in from his road trip last night and I’m pretty happy to have him back. Although, admittedly, I’ll miss living vicariously through his and Andrew’s beautiful pictures. But, I’ll be setting off to Tulum in 12 days, which as I type that makes me realize how soon that is! We still have some planning to do, so if you have any recommendations of where to eat and places to visit that maybe aren’t as popular, let us know. We want to see. it. all.
