Sur Ma Tête / The Ethel

Processed with VSCOcam with n3 presetMeet Ethel, probably the silliest gal of all my hats. Silly mostly because she sits right atop my head (kind of like a turban) making sure you don’t miss her for even a second – she is in no way understated. Another pillbox hat, which I probably have a thing for. This one is an old girl, and you can tell – there is some staining (as you can see in the second picture below), and the ribbon and twisted straw that has been basket woven together are coming a bit undone in some places, but I love her all the same. I got her at an antique mall in NY State. I saw her just wasting away on top of a shelf and knew if I didn’t take her home, someone probably wouldn’t, although I can’t be sure of that because she’s pretty awesome.

Name: Ethel
Age: 60-65yrs (1950s)
Talents: stands out of the crowd, doesn’t give a shit what nobody thinks, has a darling bow to make her tough exterior a little more sweet, when worn she shares her wisdom from her many years of experience, and just a real hoot!

Sur Ma Tête / The Susie

Processed with VSCOcam with n3 presetI thought it would be fun if I started a mini series about my vintage hat collection. You’ve seen a few of them on here already, but some of them don’t get seen often, and well, vintage hats!, I love them and thought they deserve a spotlight on this blog. My collection is not nearly as extensive as one might think, but I can show you what I do have and then hopefully just continue adding to this series as I get more, because one can never have too many vintage hats.

This gal here – I have named her Susie (I also thought it would be fun to name all my hats for this series) – hailing from the 1950s, is a pillbox hat with a veil and a sweet lil’ bow. I got Susie at one of my favourite vintage shops, Public Butter. I think she was actually the first vintage hat I ever purchased for myself, and thus, very special to me.

Name: Susie
Age: 60-65yrs (1950s)
Talents: is pink, has a bow, has a veil, makes you feel really cute, makes you think of candy, the fun-loving quirky girl of the hat world

Do you guys love vintage hats? Tell me about your favourites.

Lusting

lust-1Bralette and Bloomer set at ThreadBeat

Today I thought I’d share some hats, negligee and lingerie I have been lusting over for the passed, I dunno, too long. I hope to one day just be an old lady with an abundance of hats and negligee that I no longer have any real use for, but that just sit covering my home like pieces of artwork.

I just recently bought some vintage pillowcases to fulfil this old lady desire of mine. They reminded me greatly of Grandparents’ homes with mismatched eyelet and lace pillowcases just covering the bed, and I thought, yes, I must have these. I promptly told Matt of my purchase and he was not as thrilled as I. I guess the idea of placing his head on used pillowcases is not that appealing…I, however, am eagerly awaiting their arrival.
