Way back before I even considered starting my own fashion blog, back when I first just discovered fashion blogs were a thing, which then became obsessively reading through the archives of bloggers such as Rhiannon, Tavi, Arabelle etc., I came across the label TBA (To Be Adored) and fell madly in love. I only recently got thinking about this label again since I hadn’t seen anything from them in years. I did a little browsing and ended up on their site which was incredibly disappointing, but then it lead me to their FB page, which is where I found all their old lookbooks and remembered why I loved this label so much. I think, for me, TBA started going wrong in 2013, but that could just be a matter of taste. Before then, they were very much vintage inspired, girly without being over the top and what felt like to me, care free. TBA was the kind of girl I wanted to be, through and through. So, I thought I’d share some looks from TBA SS ’11 collection because that was the season that got me hooked and I feel it is still very relevant to my style now.

Sound and Vision

I own a lot of dresses that are quite special to me. Most of them are vintage (which I’m sure is easy to figure out why a vintage dress would be special) but a few of them are new. Within that lot are two dresses from Family Affairs, one of which – the Sound and Vision dress – I recently received and quickly knew would be just as well loved as my previous dress from them. Family Affairs has been one of my favourite independent labels for years now, before I even started this blog. There is something special to be found in every piece designed by Nina. Whether that be an adorable illustrated print, a forward thinking cut, subtle yet smart detailing, there is no piece you will receive that won’t feel wholly unique.

Every summer Nina and the Family Affairs gang hold the Midsummer Dream Treats sale, an annual sale where each day they offer a surprise style at a reduced price. Starting today until July 29th you will find something awesome at a low cost so you can get your little mitts on them without making your pockets cry (can pockets cry?!). I’m happy to kick off the sale with the Sound and Vision dress, which is now 40% off it’s current reduced price. To receive your discount enter the code midsummerdreamtreat1 at checkout. Be sure to keep a look out on Family Affairs insta, FB and Twitter so you can stay up to date on the daily sales presented by some pretty stellar people.

Collection / She Loves Dresses x Crowned Bird
My internet pal Jenny of She Loves Dresses and Priscilla Barroso, mastermind behind Crowned Bird, got together for a truly exciting design collaboration, which I am so excited to be able to share with you today. Putting their inspiring brains together, they brought to fruition a capsule collection of adorable vintage-inspired dresses for all us retro-loving gals. In this collection you’ll find plenty of 60s vibes, in the way of peter pan collars, pinafores and shift dresses in cheery colours and patterns, and even the most adorable novelty umbrella print. The whole collection was inspired by Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, an excellent place to find inspiration, indeed. I’m so proud of Jenny, as I’ve watched her internet presence grow for quite some time now, so it is truly heartwarming to see good things happening to a very kind and inspiring person.
The collection will be available for pre-order here, so you can get your little mittens on one of these gems (or even a few of them) before the rest of the crowd.
Tell me your favourites in the comments below. Which ones are catching your lovely eyes?

Collection / Gucci Resort 2016
Sometimes a collection comes along, and it stops you dead in your tracks. Such is the case for me with Gucci Resort 2016. It seems retro-inspired looks are making a comeback, and not just in smaller, independent labels. Big wigs like Gucci are letting their retro freak flag fly high, and I’m pretty excited about it. The distinct 60/70s influence, with bold patterns and vintage silhouettes are clearly what drew me to the whole collection initially, but when I looked closely, what I really loved the most were the matching sets. I am not joking when I say I could wear matching sets every single day. So I get pretty damn excited when I see brands producing items that are so flippin’ hard to find vintage. Not that I could afford Gucci, I never could, obviously. But you know that smaller brands and shops will be reproducing knockoffs of looks similar to this, and that, I can afford.
What do you guys think of the collection? Loving it? Hating it?

Beauty / Two Quick Romantic Up-dos

I’ve always found up-dos to be a weird thing, mostly because they remind me of horrible 90s proms or something. But up-dos can actually be really pretty if done right, and most importantly, quick and easy. So I thought I’d share with you two styles – the first one is a nod to an Edwardian hairstyle and the second is a retro one I have seen a lot around the internet lately (Zoe, Colleen, Rebecca), so I thought I’d give it a go with my own twist.
Edwardian Inspired Up-do
-start by putting your hair into a loose bun/top knot atop your head with an elastic.
-flatten your bun out a bit and start pinning it into place; feel free to pull out pieces in the bun to get the look you desire.
-after your bun is secured in place, start adding volume to the rest of the hair by pulling it out from the bun and pin any unruly pieces in their desired place; we want to achieve a more voluminous, messy and lifted look.
-add some flowers or cute hair accessories wherever you like to finish off the look
Retro Rolled Up-do
-start by placing your elastic headband on top of your hair
-from there take a small section of hair close to your ear and roll it over top of the elastic
-continue this process using hair from both sides until you have covered the hairband
-if your hair is being annoying like mine was, then feel free to use bobby pins to secure any stray hairs in place
-if you have a nice headband from the get-go, then you are all done, but if you are like me and had a boring black one, feel free to add something on top to make it more exciting. I used a vintage headband to cover the one underneath
