Shop Update (finally!!!)

1990’s Canary Yellow Collared Blouse

Well it’s been a minute! We decided to put shop updates on hold for a bit while we were preparing for our Pop-Up a few weekends ago, and then we agreed to another Pop-Up this weekend, and well, things have been hectic. But here we are.

Both Meaghan and I can say, very sincerely, with all of our hearts, it pains us to list this yellow blouse. It’s perfection incarnate. BUT! We will let her go, for a price. So virtually skip on over to the shop, and have a gander at some of our new items.

Matthew Tammaro & Sarah Elizabeth Youngson for HBC

It doesn’t take much to send me into a fit of wanderlust these days. I get restless fairly easily, but I think this set of photos by Matthew Tammaro, of the road trip he and his girlfriend took as part of a shoot for Hudson’s Bay Company would make anyone want to pack all their belongings into a van and take to the road. It doesn’t hurt that Matthew’s girlfriend, Sarah Elizabeth Youngson writes beautifully, and did all the writing for this set. I’m already so into travel blogs, and nice nature photos, and I have such a soft spot for people with a talent for writing, and this couple tie all of that together, and I must have looked through these photos at least two dozen times by now wishing I were driving down the West Coast stopping to soak in hot springs! I can hardly wait for Stef and I’s little road trip in June!

It’s raining today, but I don’t really mind. I took the subway to work instead of riding my bike, and it was nice to be able to sit down and read a little (ever since seeing Gatsby, I’ve been meaning to work my way through my Fitzgerald collection again). This afternoon, my office is going to a baseball game, and even though I don’t really love sports and I’m bad at socializing, I’m kind of excited about it. My sister gets here Thursday night, and I couldn’t be more excited. Sister weekends mean lots of laughing and adventuring, pasta eating and maybe also tv watching. I can’t wait.

I hope everyone else has managed to make the best of a grey day (or maybe you live somewhere where it’s sunny and summery and you’re sitting by a pool and then I am probably pretty jealous of you). Either way – happy Tuesday!

Ever Upward

DSC_0132

These photos are from a few weeks ago, when Matt and I took a stroll in the ravine. At the time I was being silly, and enjoying such a beautiful day by frolicking barefoot in the forest. The following day my skin formed some sweet little rashes, along with the urge to scratch my skin off. I was kicking myself for thinking I could just lie in random bushes and grass without considering my very sensitive ginger skin (I don’t actually regret it). Luckily, it was not poison ivy.  Phew!

As for this past weekend, Meaghan and I went thrifting for the shop at a movie clothing sale they put on every couple months at some of the film studios here in Toronto. We brought Kira and our friend John along with us. The vintage goods weren’t exactly on the cheap side, but we did come back with some pretty amazing things that weren’t out of our budget. We are keeping them hidden away until we shoot our lookbook because they are that good!

This coming Sunday, my friend Alvin (one of the most talented dancers I have ever had the pleasure to dance alongside) asked us to participate in his benefit show for his upcoming stage production. Alvin and Hayle’s piece is about teens growing up in the 1940’s – a coming of age story, if you will. We provided some of our vintage for a photo shoot they had a couple months ago. And this time around, he asked us to have a little pop-up at the benefit. We will be there, along with some crazy talented dancers in Toronto. If your Sunday is free, come visit us, see some cool dancing and maybe bid on some stuff at the silent auction.

Our first pop-up has come and gone, and we could not have asked for a better one. The day started out VERY early, with plenty of unpacking, steaming, hanging and booth set-ups with the help of our dearest friend, Lindsay (Lindsay, you are a god send). Penny Lebo of The Clothing Miner, was a gracious host/organizer, and made the day run smoothly with not one single kink to be found! (THANK YOU PENNY!)

The day was filled with vintage galore, bbq’d hot/veggie dogs, PBR, sangria, homemade cookies, kimchi, tons of sun, good music and even better friends.

We were lucky enough to meet fellow blogger Camille of Unpretentious Bouquet Of Parentheses selling her vintage from her shop, Irene & Irene Vintage. Oh my goodness, she has some of the most beautiful vintage I have seen in a long while. My heart skipped a couple beats every time I skimmed through her racks. I ended up treating myself to one of her blouses, as I could not stop thinking about it throughout the day.

Thanks to anyone and everyone who helped us out, came by to visit, bought some things or opened up their home to the sale! People are awesome!
