Collection / She Loves Dresses x Crowned Bird

Crowned Bird x She Loves DressesMy internet pal Jenny of She Loves Dresses and Priscilla Barroso, mastermind behind Crowned Bird, got together for a truly exciting design collaboration, which I am so excited to be able to share with you today. Putting their inspiring brains together, they brought to fruition a capsule collection of adorable vintage-inspired dresses for all us retro-loving gals. In this collection you’ll find plenty of 60s vibes, in the way of peter pan collars, pinafores and shift dresses in cheery colours and patterns, and even the most adorable novelty umbrella print. The whole collection was inspired by Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, an excellent place to find inspiration, indeed. I’m so proud of Jenny, as I’ve watched her internet presence grow for quite some time now, so it is truly heartwarming to see good things happening to a very kind and inspiring person.

The collection will be available for pre-order here, so you can get your little mittens on one of these gems (or even a few of them) before the rest of the crowd.

Tell me your favourites in the comments below. Which ones are catching your lovely eyes?

Collection / Gucci Resort 2016

Gucci Resort 2016Sometimes a collection comes along, and it stops you dead in your tracks. Such is the case for me with Gucci Resort 2016. It seems retro-inspired looks are making a comeback, and not just in smaller, independent labels. Big wigs like Gucci are letting their retro freak flag fly high, and I’m pretty excited about it. The distinct 60/70s influence, with bold patterns and vintage silhouettes are clearly what drew me to the whole collection initially, but when I looked closely, what I really loved the most were the matching sets. I am not joking when I say I could wear matching sets every single day. So I get pretty damn excited when I see brands producing items that are so flippin’ hard to find vintage. Not that I could afford Gucci, I never could, obviously. But you know that smaller brands and shops will be reproducing knockoffs of looks similar to this, and that, I can afford.

What do you guys think of the collection? Loving it? H.K.M. SS’15

H.K.M. Hannah Metz, what can she not do? On top of being a stylist, model, photographer and lingerie designer, she has now added women’s wear designer to that list of awesomeness. I had been anticipating the release of her first ever collection for her namesake label, H.K.M., and I can say it definitely did not disappoint. Her collection is filled with quirky eye motifs, tears and hearts adorning beautiful skirts and blouses, with it’s inspiration coming from the 12th century tragic love tale of Tristan and Iseult, which has many versions, but in this case specifically the Joseph Bedier pairing (which I know very little about, but apparently there is a love potion involved). Such an interesting place to find inspiration, but really, would you expect any less from this unique and talented woman? It may be awhile before I have any spare money to purchase something of my own from this collection, but I’ve got my eye on the Brangien’s Tears Skirt, Baron’s Eyes Blouse and Philtre Skirt.
What about you guys? What are your favourites?

Nadinoo’s “The good life”

TaXeOFiI’ve been a long time fan of British label Nadinoo. “Sounds of the woods” is still one of my all time favourite collections by any designer to date (meaning, I would literally like to own each and every piece, which, when I think about it is kind of the way with all her collections). So when Nadia announced her newest collection that is available for pre-order, I immediately headed to her site to have myself a look. Inspired by the English countryside and appreciating a slower, more relaxed pace of life, this collection is full of easy pieces in a  mixture of loose and form fitting silhouettes covered in, as usual, the best prints. Doesn’t this collection just make you want to run through vast fields, stopping to pick apples with care-free hair, and the air of an unencumbered spirit? If a collection can make me dream of a life that seems far from my reality, then that is a collection I want to bring closer to my life, if only to pretend that one day I’ll feel at peace enough to only need the simple things in life, the good life.

Like Mother, Like Daughter

il_fullxfull.638847963_yawqIt is my mother’s birthday today (Happy Birthday mom ❤ ), and with Mother’s Day right around the corner, it felt appropriate to share these lookbook photos from OffOn, a handmade vintage inspired label from Lithiunia that features many garments made for both mother and daughter. How freakin’ cute! If you ever watched My-So Called Life, then this lookbook might call to mind the mother-daughter fashion show that Angela was so opposed to in the episode “The Zit”. I personally never participated in such a thing, and my mother never ever dressed me to match her, but I have a feeling – if and when I have children – that I would want to dress my toddler to match me, if only to get truly adorable photographs that she’ll one day be horrified by, but that will please me forever.
