There is no surprise at this point that I am a big fan of Red Valentino – I’ve shared countless collections of theirs by now. It’s hard for me to pick a favourite season, but this one might just be it (maybe). It is distinctly influenced by the late 60s to 70s, what with it’s vibrant psychedelic patterns, sweet peter pan collars and shift shapes, but it still has the classic, ultra girly feel that every Red Valentino collection upholds. And how about those lace Edwardian-style collars tied with a bow? I need one asap!

I mean it when I say I have been anticipating the release of this photo story for a long while. If memory serves me right, I got a sneak peak of the goodness over one year ago through instagram (I follow all these amazing women, plus the photographer Arden). There is something so special about Arden’s photography. It has such an honesty about it, which is a rare ability, but is my absolute favourite thing to find in a photographer. She truly captures the authentic beauty of every subject she photographs, which is for the most part, people. As much as I like photographs of landscapes and still lifes (if done right), portraits will always be my favourite. People are just so interesting, and she couldn’t have found a better group of women to make these scenes from an imagined-film come to life. Into It, Intimates / JulieK Lingerie

Well, it’s been quite awhile since I wrote about another intimates label, but that does not mean I haven’t been keeping my eye out for you guys (and for myself). I came across JulieK Lingerie quite awhile ago and thought it was due time I share this handmade Scotland/California based brand. JulieK started designing her own lingerie from a deep-rooted love for intimates, a love that dates back to her childhood memories of adorning herself in her mother’s personal collection. Her designs are a bit more modern than what I am normally drawn to (I’m not a fan of thongs), but I could see myself in many pieces from her collections, as there is still a vintage quality too many of them and sweet detailing that I often look for in lingerie. Best Performances

Have you guys seen these images by Tim Walker recently released in W Magazine?! While browsing the internet yesterday, my blogger pal Kailey posted these images to her FB and I almost fell over when I took a look for myself (i was actually sitting in bed, but no matter). With the exception of a few, all the actors chosen for this portfolio played a role based on a real life person in a film last year. Always an interesting idea for a film, but creatively stifling, I would imagine. Much to my own dismay and too many women I’m sure, there was also a severe lack of female roles in 2014 film. All this to say, there was not much room for artistic expression amongst these booming talents, so this series of photographs was brought to fruition, to allow the actors to play a more fascinating role, with a sense of abandon.

For this series, Tim Walker was influenced by “the colorful, sun-drenched Los Angeles paintings and photographs of David Hockney, as well as the ’70s free-love aesthetic that informs the artist’s work. From there, the photographic scenarios took cues from Federico Fellini and, naturally, Walker’s own unique perspective.” And let us not ignore the genius of stylist Jacob K, because the styling is, in my opinion, perfect. It is so unbelievably on-point and reminiscent of spirited 70s fashion, whilst being innovative and refreshing. In a world booming with 90s normcore aesthetic, I’m jumping for joy seeing clothes being a form of creative expression and dare I say it…fun!

The Gold Hatted Lovers SS ’14

While I am freezing my buns off taking outfit pictures for this blog, the southern hemisphere is enjoying warm days and releasing Spring/Summer collections for us in the northern hemisphere to cry over because those warm days are far, far away from us now. I’ve been anticipating the release of The Gold Hatted Lovers first handmade collection, knowing full well that anything couple and designers Katie-Louise Ford and Tim Nicol create together would be amazing. They themselves look like they come straight from eras past, which is almost too cute and perfect to be real, but now they are sharing their love of by-gone eras by releasing a wonderful handmade collection of pieces that echo 1930s leisure wear and teleport you back to a time when you weren’t even alive but wish you damn-well were. The collection is full of frill, glamour and in a sense, simplicity. I love every single piece and the lookbook is so excellent and feels quintessentially 1930s.
