Into It, Intimates / Unmentionables

141969-397453fe68b7495d8aa9f7c86251a6dfUnmentionables, a brand based on the South Coast UK, has an undeniable bohemian feel, with interesting twists and details added to your typical vintage styles. I think my favourite part – and what initially drew me into this brand – is the floral appliques adorning bralettes and knickers. I could see some gals sporting these at something like Coachella, especially the fringed halter crop. They are clearly pieces mean’t for show and not so much practical everyday wear, but I think that’s the fun of intimates. There is so much to find for all sides of yourself – the practical and the frivolous, the sexy and the sweet, the naughty and the nice. I think Unmentionables has most of these covered.

My favourites: Folking Florals highwaist panties, Hang Loose playsuit, Eve mesh bralette, Folking Florals strappy bralette, Not So Basic mesh bodysuit, Eve suspender belt

Spring/Summer Vintage Hats

il_fullxfull.439736502_mbdfOne of my favourite things to do is browse Etsy and other online vintage shops for vintage hats. I very rarely actually buy said hats because they just feel out of my price range (it’s way smarter to buy a lot on ebay – more bang for your buck and you can sometimes come away with gems), but looking does no harm, and if I do ever feel like I can’t live without a hat I come across – even if it feels a bit pricey – I’ll buy it because some things are just that special.

Since the warmer months are now upon us, I thought it would be fun to share some of the hats/fascinators I have been eyeing of late that feel oh so perfect for the season – florals, bright hues, straw, airy pastel tones…all things that feel quintessentially Spring/Summer to me.

Nobody’s Baby

il_fullxfull.723654776_erqqI found Jenee Larson’s artwork through instagram quite a long while ago and was instantly taken by it. The first thing that struck me was her adorable little illustrations of toy poodles. If you have been reading this blog for a long while, then you know how much I love little fluffy dogs, so someone drawing them as adorable pink cutie pies is right up my alley. But once I started to browse her works, I found I loved so much about it- colourful, feminine, painfully cute, dark humoured, vintage-inspired, sexually suggestive – a mix of so many wonderful things, it’s hard not to fall head over heels. Now the difficult task of deciding which prints I would love to have for my own.

You can find a collection of her works here and you can shop some of them here.

Into It, Intimates / Lena Lena Lingerie

il_fullxfull.572497823_3z55What is it about bows on intimates that make them that much more appealing?! I mean, it is rather impractical for everyday wear (I’ve never been one for practicality though), and yet it seems like bows were mean’t for undergarments (and everything really) – like a wrapped present. So, it only made sense I fell for Lena Lena Lingerie almost instantly. Bows galore! Designer Elena is inspired by feminine sensuality and the charm it evokes, which is brought to life in her collection of sweet and sultry pieces that would make any woman feel her best. And how about that ivory bodysuit?! Any collection featuring one or more bodysuits is a collection I can get down with. Maybe it’s from the years and years (and years) of wearing bodysuits for dance classes, but I always get super excited when I see ones with interesting cuts and details.

My favourites: ivory lace high waisted panties, black lace bandeau, black strapless bra, admire me set, ivory bodysuit

Ophelia

DSC_3962Often times, I’m uncertain from where I draw inspiration. Our minds are so filled with information – information we may not even be consciously aware of – that we can think we are creating something genuine and new, when really we are pulling reference from something we have seen or read without being fully aware of it. When I posted the image above to instagram it was met with such sweet and kind words, and many people commented “So Millais” and “Ophelia”. It was an Aha! moment for me. The painting called ‘Ophelia’ by Millais is an image I was immediately taken by when I first saw it (it was actually the cover photo on my FB for a long time). I’ve always been quite interested in the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and the art they produced during this time period, so in a way, it only makes sense that these images have been deeply rooted in my mind, siting there, waiting for me to pluck little bits of inspiration from them. And because of my long, wavy red hair, it’s easy for people to make a connection between me and the women in these paintings, heck, I even feel a connection sometimes.
All this to say, it has got me thinking about consciously producing work inspired by some of these Pre-Raphaelite paintings – putting my giant red mane to work and creating something from the images that I have so often reveled in.DSC_3983DSC_3959
