Miss Crofton 2016

Miss Crofton 2016Ooo Baby Baby

Miss Crofton has remained my favourite lingerie and underwear brand for a long time now (and since TLO is no more, it definitely holds first place). They consistently come out with pieces that are feminine, sexy and wearable…wearable being the keyword there. It’s all too often you find pieces that are interesting and sexy, but surely not something you can wear outside of the bedroom. I have a hard time finding reason to spend money on something that rarely gets worn because it’s intended for a specific occasion, so I like the idea of a brand that strives for both comfort and sexiness, and can be worn at any time – star of the show or hidden beneath your clothes.

This collection may be my favourite yet, although, I have been known to say that with many of my favourite labels season after season. Aside from wanting to own each piece (I really do!), the lookbook is the best yet, imo. It’s clearly inspired by Pantone Colour of the Year and the clean, pastel aesthetic of the internet world, which, if I’m being honest (and a little sassy) is becoming a bit “ya, we get it.”, but still undeniably visually appealing, so I shall remain a fan.

Have you heard of Miss Crofton? What’s your favourite piece? Not really your style? Let me know in the comments below.

Bits Of My Home

Larkspur Vintage | Bits Of My HomeMAISON SPENCE

I’ve had a few requests from you lot to see my apartment, but since it has been a very  s l o w  work in progress since the day I moved in, I haven’t really wanted to share the whole thing – it’s just really not that exciting or noteworthy, at this point. But there are a few bits and bobs from around the apartment that I figured I’d share – mostly in the way of decoration – and some tiny peeks of how things are coming together. If you’ll remember my previous places, I’ve always been a collector of things, but when I moved out of my place with Ryan, I decided to get rid of a lot, only hold onto the things I really loved and live a little more minimalist-y, if you will (it’s so annoying to move when you own a lot of shit). So here we are. It still feels like me – girly, vintage and quirky, but a little more clean and refined.

Blue Jumpsuit Apparatus

I feel a bit of writer’s block these days. Although the visual part of my blog is hugely important to me, I want the written content to be another reason people continue to come back to this space. After all, I feel far more connection to the bloggers who actually write, and more specifically, write about their lives, thoughts and opinions, accompanied with beautiful images. So it’s something I strive for with this blog. With the internet being a place where envy can grow to insurmountable heights, I like the idea of realness and truth – that no one’s life is worth more or less, that it cannot be measured by anything, especially not by follower count or how full and interesting your life looks on the outside. So I like writing. I like writing so I can be open and true and make connections in a real way. But sometimes it’s tiring to feel like there is always something that needs to be said, and my mind just sort of draws a blank when it comes to writing these posts. And as I re-read this, I realize I have said quite a lot for someone with writer’s block…I guess I’ve made a liar of myself. Oops.

As you know, I like to keep this space entirely run by me, so Zach has never shot a full length outfit post for me. But it was due time he popped in. He takes beautiful images, which I have said a squillion times, at this point, but it’s true (I feel proud, ok!). I received this jumpsuit from Little Teacup Vintage on Saturday and fell pretty hard for it, so I enlisted the help of Zach to capture it’s awesomeness. And of course he went above and beyond, giving your eyeballs that beautiful light to behold and capturing some pretty dear moments.

Orange You Glad

It seems orange has quickly become a favourite colour of mine. I find the common denominator amongst many pieces I like is orange, not just in clothes, but in most anything. There have been a number of times now that Zach has laughed at me for wearing something that blends right into his couch. So I figured, if you can’t beat em, join em.

Zach just got in from his road trip last night and I’m pretty happy to have him back. Although, admittedly, I’ll miss living vicariously through his and Andrew’s beautiful pictures. But, I’ll be setting off to Tulum in 12 days, which as I type that makes me realize how soon that is! We still have some planning to do, so if you have any recommendations of where to eat and places to visit that maybe aren’t as popular, let us know. We want to see. it. all.

Beauty: 1940s Lip Tutorial

Larkspur Vintage | Beauty: 1940s Lip TutorialFull Out with feeling

I think every time I try a new lipstick style for this series I’m going to end up saying “okay, I think I like this one most.”, because that’s what came to mind with this style, and I realized I said that about the 1930s lip last week. I guess I’m kind of a fickle pickle, but this style feels a bit more bold (and I like bold) with it’s overdrawn, full shape and punchy red colour…more fun and less reserved, in my opinion.

<><><><><><>

1940s lips were all about reds, “all the reds”, as us Internet-y 90s Millennial babies would say. The shade of red was up to the gal, but the one thing all 40s lips had in common was they were loud and luscious. If your lips fell a little short in the plump department (hi me), you just had to draw a bit outside your natural lip line and in no time you were joining the ranks of Angelina Jolie lips everywhere (she wasn’t alive yet, but you get it.)

-WHAT I USED-
Lip pencil: Ruby Woo by MAC | Lipstick: So Chaud by MAC

Larkspur Vintage | Beauty: 1940s Lip Tutorial1. I’ve said this for every one now, but, get a lip pencil. It will help immensely because we are drawing outside our natural lip line…unless of course you already have full lips. But even still, pencils just make everything more clean. The lip is horizontally elongated and we focus less on the “heart shape” lip look.
-drawing outside your natural lip line, start at your cupid’s bow and create a very slight indent between the two peaks
-bring your lines out to meet your lower lip, maintaining a rounded shape all the way down. It should look a bit like a crescent, more similar to the shape you’d see on a lower lip.
Larkspur Vintage | Beauty: 1940s Lip Tutorial2. Elongated and round is the look of the lower lip. Should be real easy to achieve
-drawing outside your natural lip line, start at the centre of your lip, creating an elongated U shape that meets your upper line.Larkspur Vintage | Beauty: 1940s Lip Tutorial3. Grab your lipstick and clean it all up. Hide that lip liner and get those lips looking as punchy and plump as you’d like.Larkspur Vintage | Beauty: 1940s Lip TutorialLarkspur Vintage | Beauty: 1940s Lip TutorialAnd that’s it! Big, beautiful, in your face lips!

What do you guys think? A preferred lip shape yet? 20s, 30s or 40s?
