Happy Halloween Guys and Ghouls!

Since the day I found this Halloween vest, I’ve been pretty darn excited to wear it. It’s the type of thing that can only be worn this time of year (without looking insane), so certainly not practical, but I just could not pass it up when I found it. It reminds me of something an enthusiastic grade school teacher would wear, which I imagine is probably exactly where it originated. But now it’s mine, certainly not a grade school teacher, but definitely enthusiastic, and I hope to be able to enjoy it each Halloween for years to come.

As for tonight’s Halloween festivities, I may stay in with a friend, watch scary movies and eat snacks, but there is the option of a Halloween party, which is generally always a good time, but I did however already go to one on Saturday, where I dressed up as Steve Jobs (lol) and that may have fulfilled my Halloween costume party quota for the year. Either way, it will be a fun night, I’m sure.

Clothes To Wear

Larkspur Vintage | Clothes To Wear As a blogger, sometimes you get sent clothes that are just not what you expected. Actually, I believe that is a general rule for buying any clothes online; it may not fit because you can’t try it on and you don’t get the chance to see or feel the quality beforehand. There have been many times, with both gifted items and ones bought myself, where I just end up selling it or giving it away because it was not what I expected or did not fit. That, however, has never been the case with my Mod Dolly pieces. Their pieces have always been true to size (at least, for me), the quality is fantastic, especially for an independent label and they are totally practical items to have in my closet. The thing about my Mod Dolly pieces is that I can actually live in them. Some of the clothes I have, I worry about them ripping or getting stained, or not being able to stand everyday wear and tear. But my Mod Dolly pieces have never felt that way. Sure, they are adorable and feminine, but they are tough and sturdy and make me feel my best when wearing them. And that’s what I want in clothes. I want them to reflect me, in all ways. Not just in style, but in actual wearability. I want them to be able to withstand my lifestyle. Sure, some clothes are mean’t for special occasions, mean’t for gentle care. Those pieces are special, but they’ll never be as special as the pieces that join me through my whole life; the average and the outstanding, the good and the bad.

Back when I realized all the clothes I was purchasing and loving so dearly were vintage, and when I started to make an active effort to seek out vintage dresses for my wardrobe, this dress was exactly the type I wish I owned back then. Unfortunately, finding true vintage pieces similar to the Odile dress by ACT THREE. was no easy feat…that’s until Etsy made it’s mark on the internet world and with a simple type of ‘peter pan collar 60s dress’ you’d find a slew of pieces similar to what you envisioned, but before that, seeking out pieces IRL that actually fit and were in good condition was pretty hard (was that a run-on sentence? who cares.) I slowly found myself becoming familiar with independent labels that made vintage-inspired pieces (that weren’t too rockabilly) and had quite a substantial list of designers I was fond of. A lot of those labels are now defunct or have changed almost entirely in style, so when I was introduced to ACT THREE. I felt like they were filling the void of vintage-inspired pieces that weren’t over the top. The Odile dress is something I wish I was forced to wear in school; it distinctly reminds me of a school uniform – albeit, incredibly stylish – so I of course had to give my most despondent, sad school girl vibes for these photos because this dress feels like the universal uniform for members of the sad girls club.

Finding a good vintage fit can be a bit tricky at times; it’s not like buying new where you have several sizing options and it’s especially difficult when buying online because it’s really just a 50/50 chance it will fit you at that point. But I’ve been quite lucky a few times, eyeing a dress that I thought was really special and then having it fit like a glove. Such was the case with this 60s beauty. When I received it from The Wanderly it fit absolutely perfectly and made me feel really awesome…the kind of dress that seemed destined for me. Ya, it’s one of those dresses and I’m pretty happy it has come into my life. It had been awhile since I had found a fun vintage dress to add to my ridiculous collection, so it was due time I came across something exceptional. I’m just sad I didn’t find it earlier in the season. It feels as though Fall is on the approach, and while I try to wear most of my clothes year round, there are certain pieces that feel way too Summer-y to be worn when it’s cold…this bb being one of them. I guess if you spy me in real life, you might just catch me wearing this dress almost daily till the leaves are on the ground.

Collection / She Loves Dresses x Crowned Bird

My internet pal Jenny of She Loves Dresses and Priscilla Barroso, mastermind behind Crowned Bird, got together for a truly exciting design collaboration, which I am so excited to be able to share with you today. Putting their inspiring brains together, they brought to fruition a capsule collection of adorable vintage-inspired dresses for all us retro-loving gals. In this collection you’ll find plenty of 60s vibes, in the way of peter pan collars, pinafores and shift dresses in cheery colours and patterns, and even the most adorable novelty umbrella print. The whole collection was inspired by Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, an excellent place to find inspiration, indeed. I’m so proud of Jenny, as I’ve watched her internet presence grow for quite some time now, so it is truly heartwarming to see good things happening to a very kind and inspiring person.
