1-3. Ryan and I went to his friend’s/coworker’s wedding last Friday evening. And while I didn’t know a single person there (hadn’t even met the bride and groom), it was such a beautiful night. It was held in The Distillery District, and it was evening filled with drinks (too many), tasty snacks (cheese wrapped in syrup!!!), beautiful speeches (I cried), dancing and nice conversation with new faces.
4. This has become Gus’ blanket. For some reason it pleases me so to see him curled up in a comfy spot that isn’t on my lap. I like when he shows me even a shred of independence.
5-8. On Sunday Ryan and I went back to the Distillery because he had never actually been there before the wedding, but mostly I wanted a different setting for some photos. It’s a beautiful spot in the city, and one of the very few places that has maintained it’s rich history.
9. I’ve had Gus going on 4 years now. It pains me that I never had Gertie for that amount of time. I’m so happy to still have my wee Gussy, but I miss Gertie so. I thought I would have her with me for years to come, but you just never know what life will bring you.
10. Ryan so often wants Gus to be a rough and tumble kind of dog…but look at him, just a teddy bear. I mean, don’t get me wrong, he holds his own in the dog park with those big dogs, but all he really wants in this world is a snuggle and a belly rub. And to spy on the neighbours. Nothing bothers Gus more than suspicious (allegedly) movement outside our window.

Simply
Today will be a day of simplicity. Simply being, simply loving and simply acknowledging what we tend to overlook. Simple photos of a simple vintage daisy shift dress, sparkly red shoes and a sweet dog. Sometimes it’s good to over-think (i am guilty of this too often), but some things need no explanation, and need little to no thought at all. We just simply love them, and that’s it. All these things I simply love. They have no great meaning and that’s okay.

Orla Kiely Fall 2014
As always, Orla Kiely has brought us an undeniably adorable vintage-inspired collection. While she never really steps outside the box in terms of designs, it’s a line you can always count on for decidedly retro pieces, covetable by every vintage-wearing gal out there. I think pretty well every piece I wouldn’t mind owning, but I’m quite enamored with the above look. The trousers and swing coat in a monochromatic dusty rose is just the sort of thing I would like to be wearing (i know, right? trousers!?) come the colder temperatures (i know, right? why are we talking about cold weather?!). The whole collection feels very 60s, with a little Cher Horwitz-90s sprinkled throughout. I would also like to mention how great the shoes are in this collection! I love the 40s/70s vibes they are giving off. T-straps will never get old in my eyes, but t-straps with a platform and a big sturdy heel, well by George, i think she’s got it! However, the most noteworthy part of this whole collection…the very best thing ever designed…the Bichon purse! BICHONS! C’mon! That purse was invented for me. That breed is one of the most under-appreciated breeds when it comes to novelty dog breed accessories, and near impossible to find. While the bichon they included in the lookbook is very cute – I think it may be a poodle/bichon mix though, and the final one is definitely a toy poodle – I think we could all agree Gus would have been a better choice. He just got groomed, so his head is even the shape of the purse right now. True rounded bichon head. Anyways, I-NEED-THAT-PURSE.

Belle Vie / 03

1. Ryan & Gus – these two together melt my heart.
2. This summer I want to improve my green thumb so that I can have more than just fake flowers in the house.
3. Lola – I miss the days when she and Gus were best pals, before they got sisters.
4. However, Frankie is one of the most hilarious dogs, and she currently looks like a fluffy teddy bear.
5. Toronto isn’t the best about preserving it’s history, but sometimes you’ll look to the tops of buildings and see what once was.
6. Meaghan – We went for a walk to get coffee on a day that felt especially like Spring. I’m looking forward to days spent outdoors with this girl.
7. The Dollar Store sometimes feeds my candle obsession when I am too busy poor to get the good stuff.
8. This guys gets away with murder. He stole a loaf of bread off the table yesterday – I’m getting better at letting him know I’m not pleased, but a part of me has trouble ever being really upset with him.
9. Upjeet – My oldest and dearest friend just let me know he will be moving to Toronto come September with his better half. I couldn’t possibly be more excited. We haven’t lived in the same city in 7 years.
10. Cleo & Maya – I miss these two a lot…mostly Cleo. But, don’t feel bad for Maya, she is indifferent towards me. The only person she has a connection with is my father.
Belle Vie / 02
1. I love the way hyacinth makes the whole apartment smell like Spring.
2. What better way to have a cup of tea at the end of a long day than with a kitty friend.
3. I can never pass up a good antique perfume/cologne bottle.
4. My favorite kitty figurine – so sultry.
5. Gertie needs a hair cut pretty badly – her eyes are the sweetest part of her. It’s a shame when you can’t see them.
6. If I can’t go to the trees, why not bring them to me?
7. A vintage tap dance costume – did you know I can also tap dance?
8. Ryan’s acoustic guitar – this one holds a special place in my heart. I think I knew I loved him when I first heard him play this thing one quiet (hungover) morning.
9. Gus has a way of finding the silliest places to sit – it’s part of his charm.
