Larkspur Vintage | Things I Like #2favourites roundup!

Well, it’s been a good while since I last shared some of my current favourites with you lot, so I figured it was due time I do another little roundup of some stuff I’m into or have been doing. So let’s get to it, shall we?!

Larkspur Vintage | Things I Like #2

Larkspur Vintage | I Like These #2TAKE NOTE.

For the better part of my life I’ve been writing. Before I started this blog I had another blog, sort of like an online diary – very different from this space – where I would write a ton. Before that, I had a LiveJournal, and before that, an actual diary. I’ve never really considered myself a writer, but I’ve always written. However, since starting this space several years ago I don’t write near as much. Well, I do write, actually, a lot, but it’s not the same type of writing. So I have recently made an effort to put actual pen to paper and write just a few sentences on a single page, whenever a thought comes to mind. I’ve been enjoying it so far, so hopefully I keep up with it. Not sure what I’ll do with it…maybe share it one day…

Larkspur Vintage | I Like These #2disco fever

I mean, it is certainly no secret that I love all things 70s – the fashion, the music, the dancing – and I grew up watching Saturday Night Fever/Staying Alive, so it’s a bit weird that I didn’t jump right into watching The Get Down as soon as it came out. It should have been an obvious choice for me – Baz Luhrmann and disco meets hiphop? Yes please! Anyway, I did get into it, and I fell in love with it. It’s theatrical, fast paced and brilliant the way you’d expect anything to be with Baz Luhrmann’s name on it. If you’re looking for something new to watch, I highly suggest it. The fashion alone will pull you in.

Larkspur Vintage | I Like These #2Bath time

Certainly another unsurprising thing for me… baths! But, since it’s been Summer, I haven’t really been taking many the way I did in the previous colder months. I mean, who really wants to get into a warm bath when you are sweating? However, theres been a bit of reprieve from the humidity and heat since September began, so I decided  to get back into my bath routine, and ahhh how I missed it! I usually light some candles (nice smelling ones if I have them on hand), add some Lush products (which I am running very low on now) and put on something I really enjoy watching (which is usually YouTube or a current show I am into). If I’m having a bad day, this is one of my go-tos. It never ceases to make me feel better.

Larkspur Vintage | I Like These #2sorbet nails

I’m going to be honest, Sally Hansen Miracle Gel nail polish does not work as well as it purports to. It claims to be more chip-resistant than regular nail polish with it’s no light gel system and top coat, but my nails definitely chipped the day after applying. But, whatever, I’m not a stickler for that sort of thing (maybe you are though)…colour matters more to me, and these two colours, Malibu Peach and Electra Cute are gorgeous! The color pay off is great with only two coats and it’s getting me out of my red nail polish comfort zone. Not sure that I will continue to buy this polish the way I do with OPI and Essie, but I def am into the shades, so we shall see.

Larkspur Vintage | I Like These #2butter me up

I am absolutely a NYX convert. Everything I have received or purchased from them I have loved. And bonus, you can buy at the drugstore, which is important to me since I don’t live close to any department stores or high street makeup shops and don’t enjoy trekking somewhere just to buy makeup…but I digress. Since I loved the NYX Butter Gloss so much, I decided to try out their Butter Lipstick in the shade Fizzies and it’s the perfect thing for every day wear. It keeps my lips feeling hydrated while adding a little life to them. Definitely would recommend if matte lipsticks are too drying for you, but you don’t love glosses.

Mine’s Eye

Larkspur Vintage | Mine's EyeLarkspur Vintage | Mine's EyeLarkspur Vintage | Mine's EyeLarkspur Vintage | Mine's EyeHey guys! ITS BEEN AWHILE…

The short of it is I turned 28 yesterday and I have been kind of MIA from this space. Not from
the internet, goodness knows I’m all over snapchat (pushyspence) and frequently update my insta, but I haven’t shared much on here. It’s not due to my lack of interest in taking pictures (maybe writing though) or of the clothes I put on my body, I just think what I have been doing, I am growing tired of. I honestly applaud bloggers who have been creating quality content, consistently for years and years – that is hard work and dedication. The thing is, this is not my full time job. Yes, I do make money off of brand partnerships every so often, and I am currently working with a wine brand that has been taking up a lot of the time I would spend creating content for this space, but I also work a full time job as a clothing buyer, 8 hrs a day, usually 5 days a week. I often find myself too tired before or after work to want to shoot stuff for this space, or I would rather spend time hanging with friends and going on adventures. But, it’s Summer, maybe once the cold season hits things will feel different in that respect. Although I haven’t been posting much, I have been taking a lot of pictures…just not really of me. Zach has been taking pictures of me, however, but they are generally one offs and get shared to my insta only. That’s the short of it, I guess.

I definitely do not want to abandon this space, I guess I’m just looking to change it a bit since I clearly have not been feeling inspired to share anything here. I still remain passionate about blogging and taking pictures, and sharing my outfits and makeup and adventures, but I look at all of that a little differently now and I want this space to reflect that. I know it sounds rather vague, and to be honest, I’m not sure what I’m looking to change, really. I just hope you remain patient with me. I will always come out with quality content, that is something I will always give you, even if it is few and far between for the time being.

These images were shot by Zach yesterday at Marmora Mine. Zach had been before with a friend and I was v jealous, so I told him thats all I wanted to do for my birthday. The Mine is so vast and filled with the bluest water I have laid my eyes on in a long while. It is very much trespassing to go beyond the fence that encases the mine, but clearly that did not deter us. Bad! We didn’t get caught, but I cannot promise you that will always be the case. I have a ton more images that I shot from our day spent there, so I’ll be sure to share those and talk more about this amazing place.

Three Little Waves (Giveaway!)

photo 1 (15)After editing these photos, I’m now totally seeing what all the fuss was about with that black and blue (or white and gold, whatever) dress “issue”. Black, what a chameleon! Depending on where I was standing and where the sun hit my dress, this totally – and I mean completely – black dress from Three Little Waves looked golden and at other times almost completely blue. Anyways, all that aside, I love this dress, as I love all things I have received from Ellen of Three Little Waves. If you can believe it, before this dress, I didn’t really own a simple black dress. I have a tendency to overlook anything black when I’m in a store – it all just kind of blends together in a heap of boringness – but when I saw this dress, I knew it was just the right amount of simple with some fun detailing that it would end up being that LBD I didn’t know I wanted until I came across it.

Looking to find your very own LBD? Or maybe something more fun?! You’re in luck! Today Three Little Waves and myself are hosting a giveaway over on my instagram. Head over there if you would like to enter to win yourself any item of your choosing from Ellen’s shop. Don’t have an instagram? that’s okay my friend. You can head to Three Little Waves etsy shop and leave a comment below letting me know your favourite item (with your email contact) to receive an entry.

*giveaway runs until Sunday, May 10th. I’ll contact the winner privately through email if you enter here, or DM on instagram.

A Lesson in Plaid

Processed with VSCOcam with n3 presetI’ve acquired quite a collection of plaid/tartan skirts at this point, but I think this one is my first “new” plaid skirt. I guess it’s pretty obvious at this point that I only buy vintage and thrifted clothes as a general rule, but every once in awhile I stumble across some vintage-inspired pieces on the internet and cannot pass them up – this vibrant plaid skirt being one of them. One could argue that you don’t need 5 different tartan/plaid skirts that reach about the same length, but if you know what you like and what suits your taste (and there are just so many different colour variations and styles!!!), then why not own an assortment? (says the clothing hoarder). What about you guys? Is there an article or style of clothing you are constantly drawn to?

A fun little fact – to tell the difference between a tartan and a plaid (yes, there is a difference) you look to the pattern running vertically and horizontally. If the pattern running vertically is exactly duplicated on the horizontal axis, then we are in tartan territory. You will notice that the skirt I am wearing is indeed a plaid and not a tartan, as the pattern, colour and size are not the same in both directions. Anyways, I’m sure some of you already knew this, but I didn’t for the longest time and thought it would be nice to share the knowledge. Knowledge is power. I realized I had never shared these illustrations of me by Sara Rocha (only on my instagram), a lovely girl I met through instagram, who is super sweet and has a knack for illustrating fashion bloggers in the most adorable way. She’s so talented, so please check out her work. You may recognize these illustrations were inspired by these photographs… 1, 2.
