W1420468739965434_4Have you guys seen these images by Tim Walker recently released in W Magazine?! While browsing the internet yesterday, my blogger pal Kailey posted these images to her FB and I almost fell over when I took a look for myself (i was actually sitting in bed, but no matter). With the exception of a few, all the actors chosen for this portfolio played a role based on a real life person in a film last year. Always an interesting idea for a film, but creatively stifling, I would imagine. Much to my own dismay and too many women I’m sure, there was also a severe lack of female roles in 2014 film. All this to say, there was not much room for artistic expression amongst these booming talents, so this series of photographs was brought to fruition, to allow the actors to play a more fascinating role, with a sense of abandon.

For this series, Tim Walker was influenced by “the colorful, sun-drenched Los Angeles paintings and photographs of David Hockney, as well as the ’70s free-love aesthetic that informs the artist’s work. From there, the photographic scenarios took cues from Federico Fellini and, naturally, Walker’s own unique perspective.” And let us not ignore the genius of stylist Jacob K, because the styling is, in my opinion, perfect. It is so unbelievably on-point and reminiscent of spirited 70s fashion, whilst being innovative and refreshing. In a world booming with 90s normcore aesthetic, I’m jumping for joy seeing clothes being a form of creative expression and dare I say it…fun!

(also, little fact about me…Steve Carell is my Hollywood crush. So I’m quite pleased to see my baby all dressed up and included in this series)

Discovering Vintage

I had briefly mentioned last week that recently I was approached by StyleKick to be in a video for their YouTube channel. I spent the afternoon at Cabaret Vintage a couple Fridays ago with SK’s fashion editor Gabrielle and fashion photographer Celia making this fun little video. I’m so happy with how it turned out and I hope you guys enjoy it.

THE WHITEPEPPER Winter 14

1_e14ae568-adb1-40ac-9aad-7ac8f2ae908fI think it’s pretty clear by now that I have a thing for THE WHITEPEPPER. But really, what’s not to love?! Their pieces are endearingly feminine with distinct men’s wear details which is a style I have always been drawn to. To me, THE WHITEPEPPER is about having fun getting dressed and blurring the lines between girly and tomboy. The Winter ’14 collection lookbook is decidedly vintage-inspired which, predictably, I am a fan of. And how about those head scarves!? It’s making me think I probably need to start wearing one immediately, because dammit, they make it look like the perfect and most darling accessory! Oh, but this accessory is not just your average, often times, useless accessory, this accessory can also prove to be quite handy when those god-awful winter winds start destroying your beautiful hairs. Head scarves, guys.

Natalie Joos & Kipling

KiplingLB_98_low_res-568x853I had never really paid attention to Kipling until one of my favourite bloggers and stylists, Natalie Joos, collaborated with them awhile back to design her own collection of bags. This here is their newest collection styled by her, and I am so in love. If you follow Natalie’s blog then you already know her love of vintage, and her incomparable ability to style outfits in the most interesting of ways. Sometimes her fashion choices and styling are a bit too “fashion” for me (if you get what i mean…), but just because I wouldn’t necessarily wear it myself, does not mean I don’t appreciate her talent. Maybe it’s just too far above my head, so high-fashion that it makes no sense to me. But I love the styling in this lookbook and it resonates with me. To be honest, I hardly even look at the bags because the clothing is what stands out most (uh oh, probably not what they were going for). It’s quite obviously inspired by 60s fashion but has this odd futuristic vibe to it. Natalie has this amazing way of making things look futuristic while also seeming retro, and it’s kind of perfect. Future Retro, that should be a thing.

Into It, Intimates / Thread Beat

il_fullxfull.360020304_1dfqI came across Thread Beat on etsy almost 2 years ago. I immediately fell in love with this labels vibe, mostly for it’s unique sleepwear and intimates. To me, designer Rebecca Tanner-Russell’s inspiration for her sleepwear very distinctly comes from the 1920s to 1930s. I imagine much of these garments to be worn by the mothers of poor families during the Dust Bowl years – pieces worn around the house before covering up in a button down cotton midi dress. But nowadays anyone of these garments could be worn both inside and outside the house. I’d be happy to wear something like the outfit pictured above during the Summer, that is for certain.

My favourites: Button Eyelet Slip Underdress, Cotton Bralette and Bloomer set, Cotton Buttonback Petticoat and Bralette, Cotton Buttonwaist Camisole and Petticoat
