Into It, Intimates / The Loved One

11_01Well it’s due time I talk about The Loved One‘s lingerie, but if you’ve been a reader of mine for awhile you likely already know how enamored I am with this American-made lingerie line and vintage retailer, founded by Elvia Lahman and Hannah Metz. However, it would be silly of me not to include TLO in my new series, so here we are. The Loved One is indeed my favorite intimates line (no surprise there). It’s rare I find an intimates brand that I would absolutely buy every single piece from, but I can honestly say that is the case with TLO. Their aesthetic is one I feel a real kinship to, and it seems like each piece was specifically made for someone just like me – a lingerie brand after my own heart. My love for them is likely due to the fact that each piece feels authentically vintage, even though it is new. Having a modern take on vintage-inspired lingerie can be great, but I think it can be wonderful to just recreate styles popular in eras past. Afterall, it’s so hard to find vintage lingerie that is in good condition at a reasonable price point, and well, sometimes people just don’t like wearing other peoples old panties (I can’t purport to be one of those people though). I’m not sure of their plans to release new styles any time soon, they have had a few of these for quite awhile now, not that I’m complaining, but I’d love to see what they come up with next, and I’m sure you agree.

My favorites: Agony of Love knickers, gold Sin In The Suburbs knickers, Ballet Pink Fuego Top, She Should Have Stayed In Bed Bralette, One Shocking Moment Bra (already own it, teehee), How To Make A Doll bustier

Betty Magazine / Amber, India, Hannah

amber_byrne_mahoney_india_salvor_menuez_betty_magazine_summer_editorial_new_york_fashion_photography_polaroid_beach_wanderlust_dreamy_001This is going to be a short and sweet one this week because I think I have already talked about these three women endlessly (Amber Mahoney, India Menuez and Hannah Metz, for those of you confused), and how much I love them, and when they collaborate and create together, it’s like magic to my eyes and soul. I happened upon a few images from this editorial for Betty Magazine through instagram (as usual) a few weeks ago. I knew immediately it would be an editorial I would want to share. The aesthetic makes perfect sense to me, and is probably exactly how I would style a shoot. I could go on and on, but let’s just allow the images to speak for themselves, shall we?

Samantha Pleet Fall 2014

Visions-PosterYet again, I had been eagerly anticipating the release of Samantha Pleet Fall 2014 collection and film, and catching glimpses on social media of all the goodness and magical vibes she always puts out in the world. Remaining true to her vision as a designer (no pun intended), Samantha pulled from historical references, this time inspired by Joan of Arc. Samantha is surrounded by such beautiful talent, there is such an array of perfection she can have model her wonderful pieces and really do them justice — it’s stunning to see, really.

Now, the clothes! This could be my favourite collection yet, if only for the magnificent prints — comet print, storm print and illuminated print are breathtaking! Samantha creates simple silhouettes that fit the female form beautifully, but have their own interesting twists which makes the garment feel like something totally new, and totally it’s own. I would love to get my hands on the Noble Dress in Comet Print, the Passion Dress, and the Cloudling Dress, to name a few.

Winter Lights

agnes_8

There are several things I could say I love about TLO’s January look book. Firstly, it’s The Loved One, and they absolutely cannot go wrong, ever. Secondly, is a compilation of all things that are pretty wonderful (in my humble opinion). India Menuez is stunning, always. Hannah Metz’s creamy-edwardian-cozy styling is the sort of thing I would like to be wearing everyday for the rest of this miserable winter (yes, I am feeling totally disenchanted now). Agnes Thor always captures these magical moments, that always leaves my heart feeling full. The whole countryside setting for the look book is pretty spectacular as well (campfire, cute idea!). I recently watched My Summer of Love, and each shot feels like several scenes of the girls laying in tall grass, and mountain tops and day dreaming about a life unlike their own. This look book feels like that, mixed with The Virgin Suicides-esque dresses. It’s moody and ethereal and I love it.

Samantha Pleet SS14 – Arcadia

I had been anticipating Samantha Pleet SS14 collection entitled Arcadia for quite some time now. I truly mean this! (Instagram can be a curse when it reveals such exciting happenings and then you must play the waiting game). She may be my favorite designer out there at the moment, for reasons that go beyond aesthetic appeal. She is a true artist in all that she does. Her collections consistently transcend time and place (and trend). She is unequivocally her own, and there is nothing I love more.

The short film “Arcadia” and this season’s collection was inspired by the journals of Charles Darwin during his journeys to Tiera Del Fuego, and imagery from Gauguin and Rousseau. The film follows a heroine explorer who happens upon a mythical island-paradise and comes to find her own freedom through the island’s inhabitants – embodying liberation, sensual pleasure, nature and the feminine divine (sign me up!). This season she is back with her signature hand drawn prints and silhouettes that would make any gal look ravishing. And in my case, possibly put my bank account in the negatives just to acquire one piece. You can feel the care and thought she puts into each and every piece, and I just don’t think you can find better garments when love is involved in the process.
