New in the shop!

And we’re back! What has it been…like 1 month? I’m uncertain, it’s been awhile that’s for sure. But I promise regular shop updates coming your way from now on (hmm, maybe Christmas will cause some problems). I recently received two large boxes of vintage purses/handbags/clutches from a family friend, so this week is of course chalk full of them. This hasn’t even really made a dent in the amount I have sitting around my home right now, but we must start somewhere. Pop by the shop today, maybe one will catch your eye and make a nice friend for your holiday/new year’s eve outfits?!

Garbage Beach

DSC_0110This particular morning felt pretty special to me. It was one of those days I woke up, the sun was shining, the winter winds were absent, and I just knew it would be idyllic weather to go snap some shots by the water, and take in the quiet for a few hours. This area I know especially well – it’s walking distance from my home, and a location pals and I frequent for bonfires in the summer and early fall. The name we gave this beach is not so charming, “Garbage Beach” (no explanation needed). Name aside, it holds a special place in my heart. It’s usually devoid of many people, which can be one of the loveliest things to find in a city like Toronto. Last week really was a beautiful one, not just in terms of choice weather. I’m feeling quite spirited and full of love these days. Surrounding myself with people who make me laugh, wearing poo coloured clothes (as seen above), choreographing dances to wonderful music (ahem passenger). It feels good to be smiling during winter, because god knows it can really take a toll on my mood (wahhhh, it’s cold. wahhhh it’s so dark out).

But, on to less sentimental things. The skirt I’m wearing is in the shop. It’s such a great one. You’d be surprised to know it’s actually a size large, but it went with the vibes I was going for that day, so I threw on a belt, and voila, it will not be around my ankles within 3 steps out the door. Everything really was based around the cape though. I bought this cape about 2 years ago and NEVER wear it. However, I won’t let it go. It’s one of those pieces that comes in handy from time to time, mostly when I’m thinking up little red riding hood vibes, but without the hood, and the red. Actually, to be honest, I think it only ever gets wear at this very beach. Last time I wore it was for warmth at one of our bonfires. Do you guys have clothes you just can’t part with?! I’m sure I’m not the only impractical one.

Firstly, I would just like to say thank you for all the kind words on my last Monday post – either through comments or emails, it was sweet and really warmed my heart. Since then I am feeling significantly better. Ever upward! I am so lucky to have such beautiful people surrounding me each and every day. So thanks life, you’re cool.

As for this weekend, it was filled with plenty of lovely humans & things, which I’ll be sharing throughout the week since I documented most of it with my trusty camera. I feel like I’ve been lagging with the shop a bit. Preparing for the Maker’s Market had me putting shop updates on hold, and then I was actually living my life, which left little time to photograph new listings, and well, you know how that goes. I need like 4 extra hours in the day I guess. However, I’ve got some exciting plans in the works. Meg and I are collaborating on a wintery photo shoot in the near future (I can’t wait to work with her again). And I’m starting to plan Larkspur’s Winter lookbook. A little late in the season, but better late than never, no? My creative juices are flowing these days, and I so want to share some magic with you all.

Holiday Sale

red_hat_vintage_christmasThe holidays are fast approaching, and while I love going home for Christmas, this time of year always feels the most insane. It’s not until I’m comfortably melting into my parents couch that I really feel relaxed. Each year I tell myself to buy all my gifts early to diminish that god awful “oh crap, i have zero time for this” stress. However, apparently I thrive off stress and continue to be the same old procrastinator I have always been. So kids, don’t be like me! Why not virtually pick up some things on your list today (or tomorrow, or whenever)? Please feel free to use coupon code MISTLETOEHOHO to received 30% off anything in the store. Want your purchase in time for the holidays? US residents should order by Dec.10th, and everywhere else by Dec. 2nd (this is not including Canada, you guys have more time). Discount runs until Dec. 4th (beat that Black Friday sales).

Moody Monday

Winter hit us this weekend, and with my favorite (jk, hate you!) Mr. Subzero Winds in tow. My hair and skirt were flying every which way, which can you usually make for fun photos, but if your hands are totally freezing from fiddling with the camera it’s less fun, and more like, “why am I out here?! am I missing a part of my brain?”

I look slightly miserable in these photos. Which, we all know, is generally how my face looks in most photos (my smile makes me feel weird). But these are a bit telling. Bitter cold aside, I had a very rough last week. Having a blog is strange sometimes because (and I feel like a lot of bloggers feel this way) you aren’t always certain how much to share. Some things are just mean’t to be kept to oneself (sorry internet, you can’t know everything), but when some things may affect the content of the blog, you’re left wondering, “shall I share?”. I guess all there is to say is some very sad events transpired last week, and my heart is with all of my dear friends feeling this loss. And on my own part, a new chapter seems to be opening up for me, which I am both wholly hopeful for, but also tremendously sad. So there it is, cryptic and all, sometimes you gotta share in whatever way you feel comfortable (to explain the serious grump face).

On a more fashion related note, I have a love/hate relationship with this 1960’s cardigan. It’s so very Jackie O and glorious, but I have always been at a loss when it comes to pairing it with something in my closet. It can end up looking very stuffy and secretarial in a really bad way. Alas, this particular chilly morning I think I found a life mate in this thrifted Joe Fresh button up. I had no idea what a valued purchase this button up would be. I’m like a broken record here, but I love prints, which is why I purchased it without any real thought as to what would look nice with it (this is how I buy most things). It goes with more in my wardrobe than I could have ever imagined. So good job to you, Joe Fresh (minus all the controversial shit. shame on you for that).
