A lot of great things come out of Montreal – I keep coming across more and more brands and designers located in this beautiful city, and Kayleigh Peddie is no exception. Kayleigh Peddie is a lingerie and swimwear label, and the garments are totally handmade by the designer. From every design, to the finishing details, each piece is a true labor of love, which I absolutely love because you can be sure you’ll be getting a piece that has been tirelessly made out of hard work and devotion to their craft. I’m loving (how many times can I say love in one paragraph?!) the vintage feel of each piece, with interesting cut-outs and a whole lotta lace! Is there any other fabric that could make you feel both elegant and sexy? I think not! (maybe velvet?!) I’ve instantly become a fan of this label, and with good reason. Check out the shop here.

Lykke Wullf

Have you guys heard of Lykke Wullf? I had not, until recently, through Skunkboy Blog. Well, it was more like in the Summer, but it wasn’t until I started following them on instagram that I really took a look at their garments and became quite fond of the brand. Their styling and aesthetic feels a bit gypsy-boho-punk (that’s a mouthful) at times, but I look at these pieces, and very much see someone like myself being able to wear them with a totally different vibe. I’m especially fond of their denim overalls. They have a distinct 70s feel to them which I obviously like. You’d be hard pressed to find an actual pair of vintage overalls that are not totally unflattering (baggy 90s overalls, i”m looking at you), so it’s nice to come across brands that offer something vintage-inspired that is not already totally over-saturated in the vintage market. And how about that eye print!? Obviously not a new idea, I’ve seen plenty of brands coming out with novelty eye prints, but that doesn’t stop me from liking every single one of them. This print is especially interesting because it reminds me of the pen and sharpie drawings my best friend and I would doodle on our tattered denim jeans and shoes when we were bored in high school. However, it didn’t look nearly as nice as these. I’ve always been a terrible drawer.

Ace & Jig FW 14

While I feel there are a lot of brands out there that I really like, quite a few of them subscribe to a style that is not really that of my own. Ace & Jig is sort of that way for me. Styling is a big part of how labels present their clothing, however, it really is only a presentation and not much more than that. So even if it’s not suited to me, in most cases, I tend to look at pieces as separates rather than a whole (let’s be honest, who can ever afford more than like a few pieces from any one collection anyways). So while it’s pretty blatantly obvious you wouldn’t see me in a head to toe look like this, Ace & Jig FW14 has a lot of pieces I think are absolutely wonderful. All that being said, I actually do adore the styling in this lookbook. It has sort of a vintage-amish-70s vibe, which last Fall, was one of my favourite ways to dress. So maybe some of the silhouettes are not ones I’m used to adorning (a bit too slouchy), I can’t deny my love for pattern mixing, and how it always makes for an interesting outfit…and midi dresses. How one gets through the Fall without wearing a midi dress, I do not know.

Kiss Me I’m Irish

I feel incredibly Irish while wearing this dress – green dress, red hair. I do have Irish in my blood, so it’s not totally off point that I’d feel Irish at times, especially in green. I’m not sure where I heard this – but I’m sure you have to – that redheads look best in green. I guess its the colour that compliments red hair most. I tend not to follow things like that. I don’t care much what looks best with my hair, I just wear what I like and ignore any rules. I picked this dress out from eShakti, and I only chose it because I liked the style, but once I put it on I really liked the way it made my hair pop. When eShakti contacted me to pick a garment from their website I was pretty excited. This company is great because they offer sizes 0-36W and custom clothing. Everyone’s body types are different, and it seems a bit insane to me that there are universal sizes that you must choose from or you’re out of luck. With eShakti you can pick the garment you like and customize the fit to your exact measurements. And on top that you are able to make changes to the garment. Want short sleeves? They can do that! You like midi length best? They can do that too. It’s a great idea and I wish more online shops would follow this system (it’s so hard to get a correct fit with online shopping! Am I right guys!?). With this dress I got 3/4 length sleeves because I thought it would be an excellent dress for the colder months, and I had it shortened because I’m going through a short dress/skirt phase right now.

If you are interested, you should definitely check them out. They carry a lot of retro and modern styles. I already have my eye on a few more things I’d love to add to my closet.

Dear Creatures Fall 2014

I thought I wouldn’t be excited for Fall to come, really and truly. I actually thought I’d be very, very bummed about it. It has been yet another idyllic Summer that I would be quite happy to have last forever. But then I remembered Fall clothes, and layers, and boots, and hats and a nip in the air (just a nip though), and pumpkin patches, and fallen leaves, and I’m excited (and and and). Maybe change is just always a welcome thing. To stay the same is to reject progress, or something like that. But honestly, for me, this Summer hasn’t been great (except for all the awesome photoshoots I worked on, that was great) I’ve been ill, several times, and then my dog passed away suddenly, and then it was one thing after another. My body and mind are both tired at this point. So I can’t wait for a change – a change in season, a change is pace, a change in my outlook. I have some pretty big life changes coming up (moving!), and planned for myself (stay tuned!). So I feel like there are things to look forward to. The cold weather doesn’t always need to be a bad thing. The plants are dying, yes, the sun will hide it’s bright, beautiful face for a lot more hours of the day, yes, but that doesn’t mean we need to make like nature.

Anyways, Dear Creatures Fall 2014 campaign got me excited about Fall, and the changing of seasons. They have always been one of my favorite brands, and this collection is no exception. I’m particularly loving their caramel colored fuzzy sweaters that would be absolutely perfect for cool walks in the park, and well, anything Fall-oriented.
