The lipstick I wear most often – and probably my favourite shade of late – is So Chaud by MAC. I actually got this lipstick for free after bringing back some empties to MAC (for their recycling program) and I asked one of the gals there to suggest a colour to me (I’ve never been that great at picking lipstick shades for myself, it’s always just standard red), and she couldn’t have been more spot on in her pick. It’s a creamy matte lipstick in a red/orange shade, and while a lot of people find mattes drying, I don’t find this one to be that bad, but that’s just me. The red with orange undertones is oh so perfect for my skin tone, and I like that in low lighting it looks quite red, but in bright lighting it has a definite orange tint to it.

How I apply lipstick.
When I apply my lipstick I make sure to put some chapstick on first to help with any drying the lipstick may cause, and then I always outline with a lip liner in order to really bring out the shape of my lips and to have the most precise application. From there I just fill in my lips and then using a kleenex, I put that between my lips – giving it a little peck – to take off any excess lipstick, which I also think it helps to make it last longer. After that, I do one more application of my lipstick, and I’m done. Easy peasy.

If you follow me on instagram, then you probably already know I styled another editorial with Gerald last weekend. This shoot was slightly reminiscent of the first shoot I ever did with Gerald, The Anderson Sisters, and I really cannot wait until we can release the photos, it was a truly wonderful shoot. The day was spent at High Park with Gerald working his magic, the beautiful Annya art directing, Holly Kurmis of Hot Makeup making the gals look even more stunning with hair and makeup, myself styling some gems and of course the three honey-haired beauties, Mila (Peggi Lepage), Lauren (Spot 6) and M.K. (Anita Norris Models).

Normally when I style shoots I tend to use a lot of vintage that is either from my personal wardrobe or from my shop, but this time around I wanted to feature some independent designers and shops. I had pieces from Samantha Pleet, The Aspen Tree Vintage, Fortnight Lingerie, She and Reverie, Heart of Gold Designs and of course my personal stuff. I think the mix of vintage and new looked awesome together, and I especially love how the matchy-ish yellow and white outfits turned out.

Like Mother, Like Daughter

It is my mother’s birthday today (Happy Birthday mom ❤ ), and with Mother’s Day right around the corner, it felt appropriate to share these lookbook photos from OffOn, a handmade vintage inspired label from Lithiunia that features many garments made for both mother and daughter. How freakin’ cute! If you ever watched My-So Called Life, then this lookbook might call to mind the mother-daughter fashion show that Angela was so opposed to in the episode “The Zit”. I personally never participated in such a thing, and my mother never ever dressed me to match her, but I have a feeling – if and when I have children – that I would want to dress my toddler to match me, if only to get truly adorable photographs that she’ll one day be horrified by, but that will please me forever.

Three Little Waves (Giveaway!)

After editing these photos, I’m now totally seeing what all the fuss was about with that black and blue (or white and gold, whatever) dress “issue”. Black, what a chameleon! Depending on where I was standing and where the sun hit my dress, this totally – and I mean completely – black dress from Three Little Waves looked golden and at other times almost completely blue. Anyways, all that aside, I love this dress, as I love all things I have received from Ellen of Three Little Waves. If you can believe it, before this dress, I didn’t really own a simple black dress. I have a tendency to overlook anything black when I’m in a store – it all just kind of blends together in a heap of boringness – but when I saw this dress, I knew it was just the right amount of simple with some fun detailing that it would end up being that LBD I didn’t know I wanted until I came across it.

As I had mentioned in a previous post, Ryan and I have been reorganizing our apartment in true Spring form. I guess you never fully saw my bedroom before we moved things, save for some style posts where I was in my bedroom (here, here, here, here, here, here and here), so you have nothing to really compare it to, but I can assure you things are looking up. One of my main goals was to have my clothes that need hanging to be a bit more organized, so that I actually know what I own. The truly unfortunate thing about our apartment is that we have one closet, and it’s in the livingroom (stupid, I know.). We do have some storage in the basement, shared with one of our neighbours, but we mostly keep things that we have no space for down there (ie, my boxes of vintage for my shop). So as you can guess, our closet was a disaster. It was a storage/my clothing closet…a true mess of a space. It was so disorganized, I hated opening it to get clothes out of it. Obviously my clothes are really important to me, and having a closet that is organized and showcases the things I own in a clean and presentable way is super important to me. So, I decided my only option, if I wanted to have things my way, was to get a clothing rack. Now, I actually have two metal, basically industrial sized racks for when I do vintage pop-ups, but those were way too big for our bedroom. I ended buying this shit one from Walmart which I’m afraid will probably topple over in the near future, which means I probably need to head to Ikea to get a more sturdy one, but for the time being it works and eases my anal mind (ha, she said anal). Now I can actually see my clothes and know what I own so that I can wear them. This obviously isn’t the entirety of our bedroom, I really don’t feel it’s ready for a room tour at this point, I’m still looking to get us a new bed frame because I threw out our old one, and Ryan’s side of the room needs a bit of work (yes, we have sides…clothing side, guitar side. ha!). So hopefully one day I’ll be able to share our bedroom with you. For now you’ll have to deal with this.
