The Little Shop

DSC_0965 Last weekend I surprised my best friend Kristen by showing up in Montreal for her birthday. Besides me getting extremely and disgustingly sick on the final days visiting that glorious city, it was such a fun time (as always, Mtlers are the best people). Mtl has alot of genuinely interesting stores and neighbourhoods, if you’re willing to really dig and wander. It’s hard for me to say, but as far as I can tell from the many visits I have done in that city, the vintage stores are some of the best. Better than Toronto, in my opinion. And there is one particular shop I speak of, a strange shop – strange because it is only known through word of mouth – The Little Shop.

I have many friends who reside, or can call Montreal their home city, so I had heard about this shop from several of them. But alas, every time I visited Montreal, the shop was either closed, or we were staying far enough away that the trek to it would have been ridiculous without a car. It is only open 4 days a week for only 3hrs on those days. It is owned by a wonderfully eccentric woman, in her home. Yes, a house! We’re talking vintage and antiques EVERYWHERE, 3 floors filled to the brim, washrooms, kitchen, no place is untouched by the glorious dust of decades past. We spent a good hour digging through old objects and clothes, and were given tea to sip on and cookies to munch on. It’s the sort of vibe I would like to have if and when I own my own store.

If you ever find yourself in Montreal, I highly recommend checking this place out.

Come on get down with the sickness (Richard Cheese version)

DSC_0975

Well, I came down with quite the illness – one that I am all too familiar with. Since always, I have had issues with my god awful tonsils. They are incapable of doing their job (which is to fight illness) and leave me, at least 4 times a year, totally bed ridden, sounding like a weird frog, and unable to consume anything. This time around wasn’t quite as bad, since I managed to avoid needing emergency care for severe dehydration.  However, it looks like the end is near (hopefully). I have an appointment to see a specialist about having these stupids removed from me. It could solve my never-ending problem, or it may not…but it’s worth a try in my humble opinion.

I felt well enough today to get out of bed and snap some photos. They were very as is though – no make up, hair freshly washed/unbrushed, and wearing some of my very favourite underthings by Fortnight Lingerie (okay, that’s not as is, I put those on for the photos). I figured, if I’m not feeling well, why not just shoot myself the way I am at this very moment, no fussing, just a pale sick gal and her pretty (toronto-made!!) lingerie.

Giveaway // Ellen Face Vintage

DSC_0879

It is once again, too cold to even fathom the idea of shooting pictures outside. Which, to be honest, is fine by me. I don’t think I could do this dress justice if I had to layer cardigan, upon cardigan, upon coat, and cover all the beautiful details. I’m not sure what it is about an exquisitely crafted white dress, but I cannot get enough of them, and it’s sort of thing that needs no real styling to show how perfect it is.

I received this dress from the wonderful Ellen of Ellen Face Vintage, who curates a darling shop, filled with a lovely selection (and i mean lovely lovely) of vintage. It was no easy task trying to pick from all the negligee, adorable printed blouses/dresses, and an array of unique accessories. Ellen has impeccable taste, and it is clear as day when you visit her shop. Today, Ellen is offering $25 to spend on anything in her shop.

How to enter:

  • Check out her shop, and comment below with your favourite item
  • Favourite her shop on etsy

* Giveaway runs until Tuesday, January 28th!

Her

The new Yo Vintage! lookbook entitled “Her” (yes, inspired by the movie) is just fantastic. It captures a feeling that I didn’t even realize I love about time spent alone. It’s like it tapped into my subconscious and said “hey! this is just the sort of thing you thrive on. just the sort of thing you anticipate after long busy days.” There is something absolutely perfect to me about lazing around the home in clothes that feel like they should only be worn when out. Or maybe the feeling I am getting is the moments and the process of getting ready before stepping out, or coming home after a night out, a little disheveled from the evening’s events. Either way, it’s romantic, cozy and quiet, just the way I like most days to be (or at least, a few hours of the day).

It has finally been mild enough to venture outdoors to snap some photos. For the past few weeks I’ve been avoiding the outdoors at all costs. When there are weather alerts for extreme cold, aka you could get frost bite on exposed skin within five minutes (wtf?!), it’s just really not something I’m willing to risk. I will happily sit indoors, eating pizza (i have a problem), under blankets, re-watching episodes of Breaking Bad and googling questionable things. I am at that point in winter where I’m just ready for it to be over. All the exciting parts of this chilly season are over, and I’m ready to suit up in my hiking uniform and explore the outdoors with the sun actually producing warmth.

Okay, whining aside, I did a little interview and hair tutorial over at Cut Out + Keep. You should check it out! I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Mine was quite restful, although today it really feels like I could use some more (and she whines again). Happy Monday, stay warm (depending where you are).
