Merry Christmas To You & Yours

DSC_0497Just wishing you all a very Merry Christmas from me and my little family today! Gertie was not a fan of this photo idea — while Gus could be the most easy going dog, Gertie was certain me putting the Santa hat on her was some form of torture, and imminently knocked the hat off her head and hid under a table. I know her well enough to know the whole thing was not going to happen with her after that. So, just me and Santa Gus, and little Trudy in spirit (not really, she’s giving me serious death glare right now).

Cutting Ice to Snow (with your legs)

DSC_0463

I am currently visiting my family in Ottawa for the holidays. It has been one year since I visited my home-city, which seems totally insane, considering it’s only 6 hours away (bad daughter!). Needless to say, this time of year is always a special one for me. Snow and ice made it a bit of challenge to actually get here, but we made it safe and sound…until these photos. The snow in these photos was up to my knees, and about half way through taking them I really regretted my decision (like REALLY regretted). My finger tips still don’t feel right, and the snow literally cut my legs until they were bleeding. I came wearing pants, but could not get them back on because they had frozen from being wet. The pants-less trudge back home was a treacherous one. It was all around one of the less smart decisions I have made in my life. However, it’s sometimes hilarious to know the things that happen behind the scenes. Sometimes things look so right, and that they exist perfectly within their own realm. But really, if you saw what was happening during the whole experience you would A) wonder if I even had a brain and B) consider rescuing me from my own stupidity.

Anyways, it happened, I came away with some decent shots, and I still have all my fingers and toes…so not a bad day. I am now off to decorate our tree and wrap some presents for my family. I hope everyone has a very lovely Christmas Eve.

I’ve been listening to this song on repeat for about 6 days straight now. I’m choreographing a piece for a production my dance company is putting on nearing the end of January, and I had been searching song after song trying to find something that resonated with me, but also fit with the theme. I was given the “lover’s quarrel” as the title of my piece, which I’m pretty excited about. My personal ventures in love and heartbreak (wahhhhh!) are often where I pull from when choreographing, so it’s right up my alley. It’s the emotional Cancer vibes in me that feels all these feelings and wants them to be made into something tangible, and have others experience and relate to it. Needless to say, this song has been on my mind for days, and I sort of pulled from it when taking these pictures – restless, bored, moody vibes.

Okay! The clothes! The bloomers and camisole are two of my most favourite pieces that I own. The 1920’s camisole has made a few appearances on the blog already, but let us welcome these adorable 1950’s bloomers (hey friends!). I found them at Petrune – a little vintage store in Ithaca, NY. They were kind of an impractical buy, but I’m a sucker for vintage lingerie, so it couldn’t be helped. I wore them for a little bit lounging around the house, but little tears started forming in the butt, so they have been retired to the depths of my drawers (which is the way with most of my delicates).

I had a really lovely, relaxing weekend. Now just to get through one more week of work, and then I am off to Ottawa for about one week to see my wonderful family, and eat all their food.

New in the shop!

And we’re back! What has it been…like 1 month? I’m uncertain, it’s been awhile that’s for sure. But I promise regular shop updates coming your way from now on (hmm, maybe Christmas will cause some problems). I recently received two large boxes of vintage purses/handbags/clutches from a family friend, so this week is of course chalk full of them. This hasn’t even really made a dent in the amount I have sitting around my home right now, but we must start somewhere. Pop by the shop today, maybe one will catch your eye and make a nice friend for your holiday/new year’s eve outfits?!
