They just recently released their SS ’15 lookbook and it’s filled with gracefully soft, muted tones, perfect for welcoming the buds and greenery back into our world. Post Script

2015_Urban_Outfitters_Samantha_Pleet07It comes as no surprise that as soon as Samantha Pleet’s x UO capsule collection was released I quickly headed over to UO’s blog to take a gander at the accompanying video and lookbook “Post Script”. Aside from the video and lookbook being strikingly beautiful and enchanting (no surprise there), I especially loved what Samantha had to say about the idea behind the video:“It was such a cold winter in New York, and we just had on our minds the juxtaposition of what we were seeing and what our West Coast LA friends were sharing of their experience of like, being on the beach in January while we were freezing and miserable. We wanted to explore the idea of how people follow what their friends are doing, everyone sees life through Instagram and photos, so even when you’re far away you feel like you’re there. You feel like you know what everyone is doing all the time.”  I can wholeheartedly relate to this sentiment. Well before the internet, and especially social media, it was hard to ever truly experience someone else’s perspective since we had no visual to accompany it, only in phone calls, letters (email) and pictures sent could we experience another’s world. It was often only our imaginations that could take us to another place instantly. Nowadays, even if your friends are across the world, with a simple click of a button and a post to instagram, you can see what everyone is up to without even asking. It’s hard to remember what life was like before this. What was it like not knowing what was happening all the time, always, with everyone? While I feel social media creates such a wonderful connection (I have met so many amazing people online), it also creates a disconnect – relationships often don’t feel as personal as they once used to. I hate to admit I sometimes forget I haven’t spoken to some of my friends from far away (heck, even friends close by) in a little while because I feel as though I already know what has been going on. And of course, the ever familiar feeling that only perfectly curated feeds and blogs can make you feel as if everyones life is far more exciting than your own. Just like Samantha stated: “the message is really this ‘it’s always greener’. you always want to escape to a world you’re not in.”

Toujours Family Affairs SS ’15

amber_byrne_mahoney_tara_violet_toujours_family_affairs_nina_egli_instant_film_polaroids_impossible_project_007Aren’t these images by Amber Mahoney for Family Affairs SS ’15 collection absolutely breathtaking?! They remind me of the antique photographs you may find of your ancestors, or when you browse through crumpled up photographs of strangers at an antique shop. This thought likely comes to mind because of the sepia tones, but also because they have a distinct look that reminds me of wet plate processing – an antique photographic process discovered in the mid 19th century, now rarely used today (although some of my fav modern day photographers occasionally use this technique). It doesn’t hurt that Tara has the kind of beauty that reminds me of decades past. If someone were to be like, she’s actually from the early 1990s, I’d be like ya, that makes sense…she’s aged splendidly... but I digress. I have a great appreciation for present day photographers who are capable of creating an almost uncanny likeness to images from the past. Most of my favourite modern day photographers do this, and if I were to ever take my photography to another level, those are the types of images I would love to create – raw and unencumbered and full of nostalgia for times I have never personally experienced.

Orla Kiely Fall 2015

orla-kiely-038-1366Orla Kiely has a remained a favourite of mine for what seems like years now, and this is about the umpteenth time I have shared a collection by this UK based label. Orla, time and again, creates impossibly cute yet sophisticated pieces that beckon the style of decades past, while making them relevant again (okay, they were probably already relevant). This particular collection seems absolutely fitting in a library setting with models browsing books, wearing what feels like the attire of a supremely fashionable scholar. This collection is making me wonder why I don’t button my cardigans more often, and why I have not found myself an amazing pair of patterned cropped trousers.

View the whole collection here.

Jeremy Scott Fall 2015

ONP_6129Is it really a surprise that I absolutely love Jeremy Scott’s Fall 2015 collection? No, not really. It embodies all things I truly adore and have made abundantly clear by now – the 60s, colours, playful femininity, dresses, matching sets, mary janes…the list could go on. As I had mentioned, I recently styled a shoot for a new designer and I used a lot of fun, coloured tights to play up the dresses and give that awesome (and ever popular) 60s french new wave vibe. So bright tights have been on my mind and even more so after seeing this collection. I’ve always shied away from personally wearing colourful tights, yet I own a ridiculous amount of brightly hued ones. To me, it has to be done right or it looks insane, so I guess thats where my hesitation comes from. Bright colours and a lot of colour can seem scary, but if done right, it can look so visually striking, it’s nearly impossible to look away. Jeremy Scott did this for me. I can’t stop scrolling back and forth and wishing these outfits were my own.
