Blooming Leopold SS13

Lauren, from Blooming Leopold is one of our favourites around here, and she just released the Spring/Summer 2013 lookbook for her new handmade collection. Everytime she puts something out, I think she can’t get any better, but she’s outdone herself, once again.

Inspired by the muted colors in old Japanese Films, she hand-dyed each piece using shibori and immersion dyeing methods and all natural dyes, and the results are incredible. The amazing thing about Lauren is that she’s always experimenting with new things, and turning out amazing items, whether they’re re-purposed, or made entirely from scratch. She is, hands down, one of the most creative people out there – and she’s good at what she does! The Blooming Leopold dress I have is still one of my favourites in Summer, and this season, I have my eye on the Sumiko Linen Jumpsuit!

Lauren’s (also) incredibly talented sister Rhiannon from Liebemarlene and the Southerly styled the lookbook, and her husband Drew shot the whole thing.

Doublethink Studios

In sticking with the (dead) theme (RIP, theme) of DIY Wednesdays on this blog: Check out our favourite girl, Kira’s latest side project, Doublethink Studios. I guess one day she was sitting around thinking “it probably isn’t enough that I’m already a really talented photographer, who is planning a wedding and about to move to a different country, who takes care of a (crazy) dog and is a super fun person to hang out with….I should probably pepper some really awesome new skills into my life-portfolio”…and that’s how Doublethink came to be.  I’m not really sure.

Either way though, she’s awesome, as usual, and you should keep an eye on her, cause it’s only going to get better. Here are a bunch of places you can find her online:

L’Ecole Des Femmes – Normandie

F1000009 (1)

I only very recently came across L’Ecole Des Femmes. I had been browsing lookbooks trying to get a feel for Larkspur’s upcoming Summer one, and I was pleasantly surprised when I found these images. I can confidently say, almost all their lookbooks are captivating. They have a knack for picking the right photographer, location and models, mashing all those things together and creating images that are utterly breathtaking. This particular one was shot by David Shama in Paris and Normandy (actually click the link, he’s amazing!!!). Model, Adeline Jouan could have one of my favourite faces. I have a soft spot for any girl with a gap tooth and a face that is stunning without copious amounts of make-up (curse you!). Jessica Pare, meet your blonde doppelganger and my new girl crush.

Even if naughty professor and school girl attire is not your cup of tea, I highly suggest checking out L’Ecole Des Femmes. If only for the decades past vibes and some artistic inspiration vibes.

Lusting

lust-1Bralette and Bloomer set at ThreadBeat

Today I thought I’d share some hats, negligee and lingerie I have been lusting over for the passed, I dunno, too long. I hope to one day just be an old lady with an abundance of hats and negligee that I no longer have any real use for, but that just sit covering my home like pieces of artwork.

I just recently bought some vintage pillowcases to fulfil this old lady desire of mine. They reminded me greatly of Grandparents’ homes with mismatched eyelet and lace pillowcases just covering the bed, and I thought, yes, I must have these. I promptly told Matt of my purchase and he was not as thrilled as I. I guess the idea of placing his head on used pillowcases is not that appealing…I, however, am eagerly awaiting their arrival.

Brooklyn to West

ariele_alasko_01

Interior design and DIY blogs have a tendency to send me into hours-long day dreams about how I want to decorate/re-decorate my apartment. Brooklyn to West happens to be one of my favourites, and also probably the blog/shop that helps me procrastinate on all my real-life work the most.

Ariele Alasko is the mastermind behind Brooklyn to West – a DIY/Interior Design genius, who not only created the company, but designs and builds all the pieces in the shop herself. She also opened a restaurant in Pacific Grove (California) that serves up some of the most delicious looking pasta dishes I’ve ever seen.

I’m not feeling all that eloquent this morning, so I’ll leave you with the links to her Shop/Blog/Restaurant, and let them do the talking for me!
