Ali Golden F/W 2013

splash_aw13_NEW_2

Sorry that the shop and blog have been lagging these past couple of weeks. I take the blame entirely. Alex is pulling her weight as usual, but a crazy work week and daily yoga classes (Lindsay and I are doing a 30 day challenge – we go every day!) have my brain feeling like a bowl of oatmeal by the time I get home! I promised I’d have a post up last night before bed, but I totally forgot and cleaned my closet and drank a gin drink instead. Oops! Anyway – here is a please-forgive-me-Alex post, before today’s shop update!

This Ali Golden collection is a Fall/Winter one, but if I’m being honest, Spring has hardly reached Toronto at all, and the cold grey days have me layering sweater on top of sweater just to avoid wearing my Winter coat anymore. I can’t even look at anything colorful in my closet – it just reminds me that I don’t remember what it feels like to be warm.

Enough griping about the weather though (this blog is starting to feel like a journal about how sad the winter makes us!). I would wear every single piece in this collection – and my favourite part, is that I could even wear it to work. Can we also talk about how cute that blonde model’s hair looks with those little flipped out bangs?

Sorry again for being a bad blogger – I’ll be back on my game asap!

Pretend Outfits

The weather is…warm?! Rainy, but relatively warm, and this got my brain dreaming up outfits that were jacket-less and sweater-less and ignorant of the reality that is my wallet.  I go through phases of obsessing over certain types of clothing (sleepwear!!!), and right now I’m obsessing over items to go on me noggin (no, not you beret, goodbye, I don’t want to see you again for a long time!). Having long hair makes wearing things on your head fun! When I had short hair, everything felt overwhelming on my skull, but no more!

Desert Warrior

Well, this does it – if I don’t make it to some desert somewhere in the next year or two, I’ll roll over and cry or something (Kira – Palm Springs bachelorette, seriously). This lookbook from Portland based, Yo Vintage (which I stumbled upon while perusing Refinery29 the other day) has me feeling serious lookbook envy. Not to mention how good all the whites and pastels are in this collection. Oh Oregon, I will visit you one day, and be inspired by all the awesome people and things that seem to come out of you!

Orla Kiely A/W 2013

orlakiely

It is no surprise that I am always pretty smitten with Orla Kiely’s collections. With a nod to decades past, it’s right up my alley. Her presentation for A/W 2013 collection could have been lifted straight from a scene of Mad Men. Watching the video made me wish I worked in an office in the 1960’s, full of beehives, cat-eye glasses, a-line silhouettes and plenty of pointed collars. This was one of those collections I had a hard time not including every look. With every scroll of the mouse my eyes would widen and I’d find my fingers saving every image. Like a kid in a candy shop. Or in my case, like Alex visiting a chocolatier.

This is another infinitely wearable collection, that if I had any money at all, I would like to own pretty well every piece (squirrel embroidery!!!). But alas my pockets do not runneth over.

Sessùn Collection Printemps-Été 2013

page4-sessun960x600

All I can think about when I look at Sessùn’s S/S13 collection is planning a trip down to the South of France, or the Amalfi coast. It must be something about all the blues and pastels, that reminds me of Nice or Marseilles, and I want to be there – eating gelato while I watch old leathery looking people get unhealthily tanned.

It helps knowing that Sessùn’s creator, and designer, Emma François, is a notorious traveller, who takes inspiration from places she’s visited for her fabrics and designs.

But, this lookbook, more than any other – with it’s soft focus and ice cream shades – makes me want to be on a beach somewhere, where the water is unrealistically blue, and the sun is so hot I have to duck into air conditioned shops to cool off.
