Larkspur Coats

Just a wee shop update today featuring…COATS. Some lovely, lovely coats. Honestly, this striped rain coat is amazing. In every way. If it fit me properly (a size smaller), I would never ever part ways with it. I’d love to see it go to a good home and get some wear. It deserves to be out in the streets of this world. Pop by the shop today and pick up a winter coat (and maybe some other things).

Elbows and Pups On The Table

DSC_0742

It was quite the weekend, I must say. I welcomed a new member into my small family this weekend. Enter Gertrude, the silliest looking Shih Tzu I have ever laid eyes on. I have been told by reliable sources that the way most people pronounce Shih Tzu is incorrect. This was really no surprise to me. But I would have never guessed how to properly say it. The most common pronunciation is “shit zoo”, but apparently its “she sure”. Now, I told Matt this, and he did not believe it. We googled it, and low and behold, a million different ways to pronounce. So who really knows (someone out there does for sure). I prefer ‘she sure”. That sounds best to me, so I’m sticking with it.

I mention Gertie, but Gus decided he wanted to be the star in these pictures. He’s extra clingy since Gertie entered the picture. Poor guy. I’ll hopefully have a fun little post with the both of them at some point soon.

Winter Winds

DSC_0623

Living in a province where it’s cold the majority of the year, having a good coat is necessary. Since I wear a coat probably 8 months of the year, I find myself always searching for new ones because it can get rather boring wearing the same old coat everyday forever and always. When I found this one at the Toronto Vintage Clothing Show I knew it had to be mine. It was the coat I was looking for. Incredibly warm, huge pockets, big collar, and in a lovely cream colour that goes with pretty much everything in my wardrobe. It’s exciting to find a vintage coat that actually fits. I’ve been lucky a few times now, but I’m not one those people that consistently finds beautiful vintage coats while thrifting. There are just too many stylish thrifters in Toronto, so you know how that goes.

Velvet & Cable Knit

It’s hard to come by a good cable knit pullover. Depending on how you like the fit, it can seem like an endless expedition to find the right one. That being said, I have a pretty great one in the shop today. If you’re not really an over-sized pullover kind of person, this one checks off all the boxes in terms of color, fit and warmth. I also listed some pretty sweet velvety softness (makes you want to touch your own thighs all day), and an amazing 1940’s dress. When I’m wearing it I honestly feel like it takes me back to the Dust Bowl days. Pairing it with the Blixen Boots, it’s like a Dust Bowl match made in heaven. And last but NOT least…the novelty print dress. GAH! If this dress fit me, it would be going nowhere. I originally bought it for myself without trying it on (stupid). I was obsessed the second I saw it. It’s just the right amount of sweet with weirdness. Its glorious! Come check out the shop today. These items want to come home with you!

Mount Pleasant Cemetery

DSC_0316

I have passed Mount Pleasant Cemetery on transit hundreds of times. It has always struck me as beautiful, and countless times I have told myself I should go see it one day. The landscaping is just so breathtaking, and it’s a massive cemetery. People spend their mornings running along the paths, or just taking a leisurely stroll, like Matt and I did yesterday morning. This cemetery holds many crypts of some prominent Toronto families – The Eatons & Masseys, to name a few. Cemeteries used to be an obsession of mine back in the goth days (typical). It’s like a goth girls home base, right?! Those days are gone, but it’s nice to find a place in the city that is calm, full of natural beauty and holds a little Toronto history.

Later on in the evening I spoke with my parents on the phone and told them we had visited the cemetery. My mom then said “Oh! Your great great grandparents & great grandparents on both sides are buried there.” I always forget that although no one in my family currently lives in Toronto, many of them spent a portion, if not all of their lives here. I never met my great greats & greats, but it would have been neat to search for their graves, and give them a quick hello. It gives me reason to go back, since it’s by no means close to where I live.
