Belle Vie / 20: Bruce Peninsula National Park

3. Ryan helping out a boy trying to climb onto the rock.
4. While Ryan was jumping off cliffs and swimming, I took pictures of him and stood with just my feet in the water. It was freezing! No thanks.
5. Water for days and days and days.
6. Sitting on top of the cliffs at The Grotto. It may look like I was pondering the universe, but I was probably mad at Ryan because he wouldn’t stop trying to put his dirty, wet underwear in my backpack!
7. Ryan copying my very unimpressed face. We have pretty much no pictures together, and when we do, they look like this.
8. Ryan and I did a little photoshoot with my Pentax when we found a secluded area during our hike. Smart Ryan decided to also snap a few shots with my DSLR so we could see some of the images right away.
9. I was having the hardest time really capturing how lovely this toadstool was. The orange was so vibrant I saw it from a mile away…this is the best one I could get, and still doesn’t do it justice.
10. Hanging out on the beach after our 2.5hr hike around the Cyprus Lake trail. Yes, those are my resting feet…they always look pointed.
11. More beach hangs.
12. Ryan noticed a tree that was totally dead and ready to come down right in our campsite – giving it a little poke.
13. Mountain man.

2. We brought an abundance of grapefruits to make juice and tasty bourbon drinks. We camp classy.
3. We might have finished this entire bottle of bourbon over the week…
4. Put up a hammock but something was weird about it. You’d sit in it and it would just sink on one side. We are not good at hammocks, apparently.
5. Thank god we brought an axe and hatchet with us to make kindling. Last time I went camping we forgot that, and it was a pain in the ass, let me tell you.
6. Ryan makes a good fire.
7. Ummm, ya Ryan brought a lot of cardboard shit to burn…including two Pizza Pizza boxes…
8. Receipts as well? Don’t ask, Ryan is weird.
9. But a good fire, none the less.
10. Proof that I can smile.
11. Ryan wanted to see if he could jump over our tent. I knew this would go down in one of two ways. One, he would make it over easily. Two, he would crush our tent right after we put it up. He made it over and was like really, really pleased with himself.
12. Lying in the hammock, looking up at the trees.
13. The road driving up to the park. There is something so calming about an open, quiet road. A rarity when you live in the city.
14. We stopped by the store on the second day to pick up some more ice for our cooler. This place had showers because there are none in the campgrounds. We didn’t shower, which I never do when I’m camping. teehee!

*I’ve got so much more to share with you. These were only from the first day and the next morning.

I barely picked up my camera in the last few weeks – save for taking outfit pictures – I really had not much to work with when trying to put together a Belle Vie post today (and didn’t even bother last week). All these photos are from Sunday, when Meaghan and I headed to the CNE, mainly to eat delicious gross food, and ride some, well, rides. We found ourselves sitting on a swan for a long while, taking polaroids of eachother, eating cotton candy and discussing how we feel at ease with one another if ever we absolutely need to instagram something when we should really be interacting with eachother – she just gets me, you know. It was a lovely girly date and the Ferris Wheel provided a fantastic aerial view of the CNE. I love this girl, it will be weird not living in the same building as her, and being able to see her but simply stepping outside my apartment door.

Ryan and I went to his friend’s/coworker’s wedding last Friday evening. And while I didn’t know a single person there (hadn’t even met the bride and groom), it was such a beautiful night. It was held in The Distillery District, and it was evening filled with drinks (too many), tasty snacks (cheese wrapped in syrup!!!), beautiful speeches (I cried), dancing and nice conversation with new faces.
4. This has become Gus’ blanket. For some reason it pleases me so to see him curled up in a comfy spot that isn’t on my lap. I like when he shows me even a shred of independence.
5-8. On Sunday Ryan and I went back to the Distillery because he had never actually been there before the wedding, but mostly I wanted a different setting for some photos. It’s a beautiful spot in the city, and one of the very few places that has maintained it’s rich history.
9. I’ve had Gus going on 4 years now. It pains me that I never had Gertie for that amount of time. I’m so happy to still have my wee Gussy, but I miss Gertie so. I thought I would have her with me for years to come, but you just never know what life will bring you.
10. Ryan so often wants Gus to be a rough and tumble kind of dog…but look at him, just a teddy bear. I mean, don’t get me wrong, he holds his own in the dog park with those big dogs, but all he really wants in this world is a snuggle and a belly rub. And to spy on the neighbours. Nothing bothers Gus more than suspicious (allegedly) movement outside our window.

DSC_4392DSC_4388DSC_4393DSC_4386DSC_4384DSC_4379DSC_43741-2. Over the weekend we shot Larkspur’s Summer Lookbook ’14. Gerald shot everything on 35mm, Leesa gave us beautiful Bridget Bardot inspired looks, and the beauteous Marta and I modeled. Things have been a bit difficult for me since Gertie’s passing, and I was considering postponing the shoot, but I’m glad I didn’t. It was a wonderful and much needed distraction.
3. Ryan spent the whole day on the beach with us while we shot Larkspur’s lookbook. It can be horribly boring to sit around during a shoot you have no involvement in, but I really appreciated him being there for me. Yes, that is his mexican blanket wrapped around his head. He is very good at entertaining himself.
4. For my birthday Ryan bought me a cactus and Meaghan got me a jade plant. I like plants.
5. Ryan had once claimed he had never tried a pickle before, which I thought was ABSURD! He kept saying he didn’t like them, but that made very little sense to me, since he said he had never tried one, so I made him eat one. It is still unclear whether he likes them.
6. This was the last picture I took of Gertie. It was on Tuesday evening, the day before she passed. She was looking to Ryan to give her a little taste of what we were cooking.
7. Cute cook in the kitchen.
