Shop Update

Novelty Whale Print High Waisted Skirt

We added some more Spring/Easter fun to the shop today! This includes a high waisted skirt with the most charming whale print, delicate pastels and some items from the 80’s, 50’s and 30’s.

If you are having weather like us here in Toronto, then everything is probably pretty grey, but I think any of these items would add some much needed colour to these dreary days!

Sunnyside Beach

2012417-sunnyside2-1928

This post will seem repetitive to anyone who followed me here from my old blog, but I’m in bed sick again – this time, with some sort of bad reaction to a plate of spaghetti (February has not been kind to me)- and I can’t come up with much of anything new worth posting about.

When my Grandmother used to tell me about when she moved to Toronto in the 1940’s – to be with my Grandfather – she would go on an on about how on Sunday afternoons, they would go to Sunnyside for fun. From what I knew of the beach, there isn’t much to see – so I got to looking up how it was back then. It turns out Sunnyside was Toronto’s own Coney Island, until they came through and built the Gardiner, rendering the West part of the city boring, and driving all of the rich families to move East.

Parkdale is not without it’s charm today, and we are lucky enough to have the Ex come to our part of town every year – as well as some other festivals – but it does look like it was a whole lot of fun, doesn’t it?

I stole these photos from BlogTO who do a much more eloquent job of describing the changes made to the pavillion than my sick brain can right now. So, I’ll leave you with the photos.

Shae Acopian Detar

shae

I only recently stumbled upon the stunning Shae Detar and her body of work…how it took me so long, I am not quite sure. Shae is someone you might call a triple threat or quadruple, rather. She is an accomplished stylist, model, vintage purveyor and more recently (3.5yrs) focusing her beautiful energy on photography. Her most interesting work I think is her painted images, a medium you don’t see too often anymore, but totally makes sense if you know anything about her aesthetic and lifestyle. She styles all her own shoots, which I love, because her eye for vintage and her personal wardrobe are impeccable. Not only do I admire her as a photographer, but her fashion sense is one that makes my heart flutter, and once I’m done gushing over it, I feel wholly inspired.

February might not seem so awfully dreary to me if every weekend were as lovely as this past one. Friday night Kira and I had plans to go to the launch party for Go Home Print’s second issue (which a couple of Kira‘s photos are in!!!), but Kira came down with the same awful flu I am just getting over, so we both ended up staying in. I finished reading Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” Friday afternoon, and was pretty curious to see the movie, so, I settled onto my couch with a bucket of spicy cayenne pepper popcorn and a beer and watched it and wept for a couple of hours.

The rest of the weekend was spent reading, dog walking, shopping, brunching, eating pho, going to birthday parties and watching my friend’ parents perform musical revues in beautiful old churches!

Tonight, a few of us watched the Oscars at Kira’s house and vowed to be more organized and throw a real Oscar party next year. Now it’s nearly 1am and I should put my computer away and let the sound of raccoons screaming outside my bedroom window lull me to sleep. I hope you all had lovely weekends too.
