Until very recently I had never heard of Hungarian designer Sandra Sandor and her label, Nanushka. I took quite a liking to this label almost immediately. The colors in her AW ’14 collection are absolutely to die for. I’m particularly smitten with the olive green garments paired with the beautiful salmon pieces – it’s like these two hues were mean’t for eachother (forever and ever, in holy matrimony). While I may dress pretty feminine most of the time, I generally try to incorporate some bit of men’s wear pieces into my outfits (button ups, oxford shoes et. al.), which is why I think this collection speaks to me. While the styling may feel a bit too normcore and sporty for my taste (save for a few), I could see myself having any one of these pieces in my wardrobe and styling them to my taste. All around it’s a fun collection with a lot of beautifully tailored pieces and just the right colors for Fall/Winter.
Belle Vie / 21: The Grotto & Cyprus Lake

1-8. Ryan really loved The Grotto. He must have spent over an hour jumping off rocks and cliffs and swimming in the freezing cold water. As mentioned before, I’m not absolutely in love with swimming in lakes etc. It makes me uneasy to not know what’s beneath my feet. I was quite happy to watch Ryan have a great time and snap photos in between scaling the rocky walls and dipping my feet in the, let me repeat, freezing cold water.
9-12. Ryan and I did a 5 km hike along the Cyprus Lake trail on our third day camping. He started to freak me out once we got deep into the forest, telling me stories about him or friends coming across rattle snakes and black bears, oh my! (Wizard of Oz anyone?!) But all was well. Not a sighting of either, which to be honest, sort of made me sad. Both freak me out, but would have been cool to see them in the flesh, at a safe distance.
*photos of me by Ryan. And that’s it for my camping trip photos.
Control Freak
I took these images a couple weekends ago when I was putting off packing (I’ve been a procrastinator since always). The lighting was nice and since I started (almost a year ago) relying on myself to take my own pictures for this blog, I’ve really enjoyed learning new things about my camera and playing around with it. I almost always prefer to take my own images. Sure, it’s convenient to have someone else take your pictures, but I’m generally much happier with the results when I have done all the work myself (and that’s the control freak in me). I think that speaks volumes about my personality. I prefer to not have to rely on other people to get things done. If I could know how to do everything myself, that would be ideal. But it is impossible to be able to know and do everything. And often times it’s great to have help from others – it’s good to relinquish control from time to time, for your sanity. I’m still learning to do this in all aspects of my life, as I’m sure many people are. Anyways, just a few thoughts for today.
Marco Polo
I must admit, I am wholeheartedly excited about dressing for Fall right now. It’s really so fun to unearth pieces you have had hidden away in your closet for months (or buying new pieces, teehee). It has given me the breath of fresh air that I so desperately needed. Now, this pinafore, oh this pinafore! How do I love thee, let me count the ways. It has horses/polo players on it and is made from re-purposed vintage Ralph Lauren fabric. Cool right!? I wanted this pinafore from TLO when it came out last season, but someone snatched it up before me online. I’ll save the long story of how it came to be mine, but Casie, who was the original owner of this gem, gave it to me (we got to know eachother through instagram, and just so happen to both live in Toronto). The clothing gods shined down on me that day (or more like the angel Casie, thanks Casie! you doll!) I’m pretty excited to style this baby. I opted for a print on print look this time around. I swear to you, when people say you should buy basics to go with everything in your closet, ie. neutral colours, plain… they didn’t know what they were talking about. This thrifted Joe Fresh button up has been a god send to me, and a real wardrobe staple. It goes with so many things in my Fall/Winter wardrobe, it is silly. Anyways, this outfit feels like me. I love pattern mixing, which I barely did any of during the Summer, for whatever reason. I’m excited about this weather change right now…but I’m sure that feeling won’t last long.
Pinafore: The Loved One
Button-up: thirfted via Common Sort
Hat: borrowed from Meaghan
Purse: H&M

Into It, Intimates / Luva Huva
I stumbled upon the handmade lingerie and sleepwear brand Luva Huva very recently on etsy and was immediately taken by how well designer Joanna Ketterer does a combination of cute and sexy quite seamlessly (no pun intended). I’ll be honest, as much as I can appreciate modern looking lingerie pieces that would not be deemed cute in any real sense, I really am an old-fashioned broad at heart, and pieces that ooze the sweetness and femininity of by-gone eras will always be my favourite. So it is clear as day I would be taken by this intimates brand. And it is an added bonus when a lingerie designer creates sleepwear pieces. I often prefer to wear vintage nightgowns to lounge around the house and sleep in, so I love finding designers making sleepwear pieces that echo the adorable nightgowns of the past.
It’s also important to note that while buying a lovely garment has it’s merits, being aware of where your materials and fabrics are coming from is also quite important. This brand is aware of their carbon footprint, and ethically source environmentally friendly and sustainable fabrics whenever possible. The fabrics Joanna uses are 100% organic cotton, bamboo, soy fabrics, with end of line remnants and vintage lace – all good things, in my opinion. If you have not seen or heard of this brand before, I urge you to virtually pop by, both on their own online shop and etsy.
My favourites: Cornflower Nightie, Yellow Stripe Nightie, Yellow Print Babydoll & Knicker set, Aster Babydoll & Knicker set, Ivory Sweet Juliet Chantilly Lace & Knicker set, Coraline Black Lace Triangle Bra & Brief set, Odette Bra & Brief set, Anemone Bra set
