good night, day pre-fall 2014

10306456_734520803250928_6521156030650224830_nThe weather has been quite warm, and I think it will be staying that way for a good while now, so it seems a bit silly to even be considering warm garments like wool knits. But just a few weeks back Tara-Lynn Morrison, the talented gal behind the Canadian knit-wear label, good night, day, released her Pre-Fall collection, and it is just too good not to share. Strange it seems, just this past weekend I was saying to Ryan how I wish it was socially acceptable to wear a blanket outside during winter without fear of being deemed a wee bit nutty, and behold, the Bloomfield Blanket Lace Wrap – just the sort of thing I have been dreaming of for years now! GND always has such gorgeous, quality knits that I absolutely love collection after collection, so it actually seems ridiculous I do not own my own piece at this point. This is an issue I shall rectify in due time.

Swedish Summer

DSC_3128Sometimes it’s necessary for me to get out of the city. I do love Toronto (like really really do) but my mind and body often crave the slowness, fresh air, and silence that north of the city has to offer. Luckily for me, Ryan’s family lives in Barrie, in a beautiful home with ample outdoor space and a very short walk to the waterfront and forest. Ryan and I made the most of our weekend by doing pretty well nothing, which felt perfect. And I was excited to get this Family Affairs, Swedish Summer dress in the mail from Nina about a week or two before. It was the perfect dress for this particular day – lightweight, summery and fun. It’s one of those dresses that doesn’t really need styling – the print is so awesome and the cut is so cute, it’s a piece that can stand on it’s own, in my opinion. I like over the top and complicated sometimes, but I also really like simplicity, as long as I stay true to my silly, quirky nature.

I hope you all had a very lovely weekend. Mine isn’t over just yet, but I’ll keep this short and sweet because I have many new items to photograph for the shop (!!!), cleaning (ugh!) and  grocery shopping to do. So, bye for now!

Into It, Intimates / Miss Crofton ’14 collection

Mermaid_bra_back_WEB_So I realize it was just last week that I shared Miss Crofton intimates, but only a few days after doing so they released a new collection and I liked it so much I figured I may as well share it while it’s fresh and new. I think what I love about Miss Crofton is the simplicity and wear ability of each piece, while never compromising the adorable and fun details, which in my opinion, makes this brand stand out from so many others. Most, if not all of these pieces could actually be worn comfortably under clothes, which I very much appreciate. Don’t get me wrong, I am the first to purchase items that I can’t really wear on a regular basis and are in no way practical, solely based on the fact that it’s special and I must have it, just to own it. But there is something to be said about pieces that are special in design and fabrics, as well as being a reasonable option for comfort and practicality when we aren’t trying to please anyone but ourselves. My favourites are the “Tara” black lace bra, “Velveteen” black floral lace bra, “Zelda” navy jersey set and “Mermaid” high waisted knickers …so like everything, basically.

Check out the whole collection and dreamy lookbook here.

Oleg Oprisco

123576-6766209-365Oleg Oprisco’s work blew my mind when I first came across it through instagram. I immediately went to take a better look and knew I had to share it here. It’s whimsical, otherworldly, thought provoking and sometimes so incredibly clever that I can’t help but be kind of in love with it. I like his use of long haired beauties adorned with blooms, dressed in things I would absolutely clothe myself in, standing lonesome in landscapes that seem too good to be true. And the contrast between the rich colors and dull muted tones is so eye catching and dreamy, it seems like they could only exist in fantasy. But what amazes me most about his work is that it’s all shot on film. It makes you really appreciate his vision and the work he produces. Much like Ellen Rogers, everything is on purpose, and not just anyone can produce such exquisite imagery.
