It seems orange has quickly become a favourite colour of mine. I find the common denominator amongst many pieces I like is orange, not just in clothes, but in most anything. There have been a number of times now that Zach has laughed at me for wearing something that blends right into his couch. So I figured, if you can’t beat em, join em.

Zach just got in from his road trip last night and I’m pretty happy to have him back. Although, admittedly, I’ll miss living vicariously through his and Andrew’s beautiful pictures. But, I’ll be setting off to Tulum in 12 days, which as I type that makes me realize how soon that is! We still have some planning to do, so if you have any recommendations of where to eat and places to visit that maybe aren’t as popular, let us know. We want to see. it. all.

I’ve Got It All

Together…sometimes…but usually not.

The weekends when I am able to fit in work and fun are the type of weekends I come away from feeling truly whole. When you work a full time job (I recently became a buyer for a second hand/sometimes vintage shop), maintain a blog and other social media platforms all by yourself, own a dog, teach dance, help your partner with work, occasionally style and model for shoots, try to attend blogging/insta events, sometimes sell clothes…it’s hard to feel like you are on top of everything. To be honest, it’s fucking impossible to be on top of all of that. The thing that usually gets pushed to the wayside for me is friendships. It’s hard to maintain friendships (I’m mostly talking about surface friendships here) when you are an introvert, but also someone who feels literal guilt when you should be getting work done and instead are spending time with someone. And as I read that sentence, it sounds kind of awful. The thing is, I love my friends, the ones that don’t feel like work and get that I am kind of busy and will often say no to something because I have work to do. But on the flip side, I’ve had to work with the feeling of guilt I get when I am hanging out and not working by actually pushing work to the side and allowing myself to have fun without “consequence”. It’s been strange acknowledging that feeling and trying to work with it…I often feel like I never get it quite right. But this weekend felt truly balanced, and I woke up this morning with a sense of accomplishment and a feeling of wholeness. I realize it won’t always be like this. I won’t always feel like I’ve got it all together, and that’s really okay. As long as I am able to appreciate and recognize the moments where it does all fall so perfectly together, then I couldn’t really want or ask for anything else. We are all just trying to get by in the ways that make us feel good or make us feel bad, sometimes. It’s those things that drive us forward, but sometimes make us stuck. As long as we can see ourselves in all the ways we are or are not driven, well I think that’s all we can really do. In my little understanding of psychology and self-understanding, it’s just being able to see the way we work that makes us able to start changing for the better.

JUMPIN’ JUMPIN’

Who else has really been loving jumpsuits of late? I now own dungarees (which you have seen), a simple black jumpsuit with a back cut-out and I’m hoping to add a colourful printed one to my roster sometime soon.

I love the ease of jumpsuits. Much like a dress, it’s all you need to make an outfit (maybe some accessories too, though). There are so many pieces now that fit pretty well any style (sophisticated, boho, minimalist, vintage-inspired…you get it), that it would be easy to find something for yourself. I thought I’d share a few from around the web (mostly ASOS, apparently) that I found quite striking.

Head to toe

The weather has been kind of coocoo lately; warm Spring like temps followed by freezing cold winds with snow. It’s kind of hard to get dressed when the weather changes drastically one day to the next, but denim overalls are pretty much a guarantee for any weather…well except for insufferably hot Summer days (they don’t breathe very well, tbh). These bbs are a Coachella x H&M collaboration that I came across and instantly fell for when Zach and I were doing some shopping for a job he (and by default, we) is (are) working on. I wouldn’t say I’ve been searching for a pair of denim overalls because that would be a lie, but I definitely knew they were something I was interested in. It was one of those, ahhh yes, I want a pair of those for sure, yes, mhm. moments (that’s not even a universally understood moment, I’m sure) but this particular pair called to me because it’s form fitted and flared and indigo denim and denim from H&M, which is my favourite my favourite denim (how many times can I say denim?), fyi.

I’ve slowly been adding pieces to my closet that I’m really into which has been making me feel a whole lot better about this style indecisiveness I’ve been going through. You can be sure I count these overalls as a very welcome addition to my closet.

Endless Days in British Vogue

ENDLESS 70s

This very 70s inspired editorial was published in British Vogue last summer, but going on a year later, its still relevant. The 70s isn’t going anywhere just yet, although, part of me feels maybe we are transitioning into more of the boho, hippie, yet still kind of glam 70s (is that even a thing? it is now); peasant tops, fringe, patterned flares, a sort of Pennie Lane/Almost famous direction of dress…the coolest of cool 70s. Sure, we are still seeing some pseudo-psychedelic prints in A-line cuts, but more and more flowy pieces with smaller floral prints are popping up.

If I’m being honest, I don’t much pay attention to trends. Sure, I’m absolutely influenced by certain styles that become popular, but I don’t make it a point to follow trends or feel like I’m behind on the times if I just can’t get behind a certain trend, or didn’t even know about it. Some of the only times I realize things have become popular is when I enter a big brand store like H&M, F21 or Topshop and notice what they are carrying…that’s when I can actually see an overall image of what is now deemed “in”. But I love the 70s trend, because I loved it before it became a mainstream trend (that sounds pretentious, but it’s true). The 70s always spoke to me, but even more so now than say, the 60s, my first true love. It’s the direction in which I see my style going more and more. It’s fun while still being easy, and somehow it doesn’t feel like costume the way some decades of dress do. Maybe because it wasn’t that long ago…maybe because it’s in now and thus feels less costume-y to dress head to toe 70s? Whatever the reason, I look at this editorial and while it is decidedly vintage, both in dress and photography, it honestly feels like this girl could be walking down the street and not feel totally out of place. I like that, I like living in a world that embraces vintage styles and realizes new isn’t always best. Sometimes what you have(had)is just fine.
