New Threads at Larkspur

Okay, so I kind of lied last shop update when I said that was it for my Summer-ish items. While thrifting in NY State I happened upon far too many delightful items that I just couldn’t pass up, regardless of the changing season. And you know, sometimes I feel there are many pieces that transition nicely into many seasons (even if it’s robin egg blue!) Styling is the key. Anyways! I’ve got a bit of both this shop update. The Fall skirts are ever so lovely. I’m sure they would love to find a new home. Although I’m happy to keep them company in the mean time. Pop by the shop to check these new babies out!

PS – I apologize for the horrid lighting in most of these photos. I use natural light, and a lovely thunderstorm rolled in in the midst of photo taking. So thank you, mother nature.

Red Valentino F/W 13-14

posted about Red Valentino back when we started the blog, and I have been following their collections since, but hadn’t really fallen in love with any of them…until now! Their Fall/Winter 2013-14 collection is my favorite to date. Gah! The prints have killed me. Seriously. I am now writing from the grave!

They stick to what they do best through and through – 50’s, 60’s and 70’s silhouettes with their own modern twist, and some feminine charm. I am more drawn to their longer dresses it seems.  I appreciate that they give you a long sleeve with a maxi dress. It’s conservative done so, so right. It’s Amish for the electrical city loving folk. I truly harbor disdain for fashion do’s and don’ts like, “If you are wearing a long skirt, you should pair it with a short sleeve. It looks too matronly otherwise” Nay! Give me that long skirt, and that long sleeve. You cannot see any of my skin minus my neck and head? Don’t care. If dollhairs grew on trees, I would like to fill my closet with this, this, this, this, this and this.

Love always, Meaghan

Larkspur has grown in leaps and bounds since Alex and I sat together in a Tim Hortons (it was a Sunday night, and we were tired of walking around in the cold finding out everything was closed) plotting when and how to launch the shop. I’ve had an absolutely amazing time doing our first pop ups and working with other bloggers on sponsorships and hosting giveaways, but I have a lot on my plate at the moment and even more in the works, and I’m afraid I’m going to be bowing out of Larkspur, and leaving the shop and blog in Alex’s very able hands – she’s got big plans for it, and I can’t wait to see all the places it’ll go!

I”m sure I’ll make an appearance here and there, so I won’t say goodbye! It’s been so lovely getting to know you all, and I’ll keep you posted on any future projects!
Till then, keep your eyes on this shop, cause I have a feeling Alex will be making big things happen!

Xo
– Love, Meaghan

Last night Toronto got hit with an insane amount of rain, and everything flooded. If you google image Toronto Flood 2013, some pretty crazy pictures of the flooding come up! For the most part I stayed safe and dry – my block lost power for about an hour, and then it came back and I walked down the street for pho. Mostly I’m just jealous of all the people whose office buildings are closed cause of power outages/floods/road closures, cause I got caught in the rain on my bike and am sitting here under neon lights shivering, wishing I was curled up reading any of these books and dressed in far warmer/comfier clothes than I am!

Jelly Belly in The Distillery District

photo (15)

How did it become Monday already?! This weekend flew by. Meg has gone off to Catskills, NY with her bff, and I have been stalking her instagram making myself so envious of all the amazing things she is doing and seeing.  I’m sure she’ll have plenty of pics to share with us when she is back. Yay!

Now me you ask, well, Matt and I spent most of our Saturday in The Distillery District, seeing Kim’s Convenience, a play one of  Matt’s pals from an old show he worked on was acting in. It was SO good! Matt and I kept having to hold back our sentimental tears at pretty much every moment. After that we had some snacks and beers at Mill St. Brew Pub, bought some baked goodies and walked around pretending to be tourists. Sunday I had a busy day of dance. It was Toronto’s Choreographer’s Ball last night, so I was dancing my little heart out on stage with my dance company, A.I.M. Always a fun and inspiring night. And one of the few events where pretty much everyone from the Toronto dance scene shows up to. It’s like a stroll down memory lane sometimes.

This shift dress I’m wearing could be one of my favs. I very much love anything with geometric prints or crazy floral patterns. It does however sometimes make me look like I have a pot belly, but that could also be because I have the most horrifying posture. I’m not sure how I did ballet for 19 years and could still have the posture of a jelly bean.
