Red Valentino F/W 13-14

rv5

posted about Red Valentino back when we started the blog, and I have been following their collections since, but hadn’t really fallen in love with any of them…until now! Their Fall/Winter 2013-14 collection is my favorite to date. Gah! The prints have killed me. Seriously. I am now writing from the grave!

They stick to what they do best through and through – 50’s, 60’s and 70’s silhouettes with their own modern twist, and some feminine charm. I am more drawn to their longer dresses it seems.  I appreciate that they give you a long sleeve with a maxi dress. It’s conservative done so, so right. It’s Amish for the electrical city loving folk. I truly harbor disdain for fashion do’s and don’ts like, “If you are wearing a long skirt, you should pair it with a short sleeve. It looks too matronly otherwise” Nay! Give me that long skirt, and that long sleeve. You cannot see any of my skin minus my neck and head? Don’t care. If dollhairs grew on trees, I would like to fill my closet with this, this, this, this, this and this.

Fruits and Veggies by The Loved One

TLO

If you know me personally, you probably know I have a wee thing for The Loved One. At this point I own two pairs of Floral Remake Shorts (in fact I’m wearing the light pair right now), One Shocking Moment Bra and Bow Tie in black. So, you can understand my excitement when the first of their monthly look books entitled “Fruits and Veggies” was released. TLO’s aesthetic whispers to me in sweet sweet nothings. I cannot ever get enough of it. If ever there was a shop who picked the perfect photographers, most interesting models and delightfully quirky vintage, this would be it (in my opinion).  Put those hats on ma tête and those frocks on my body and i will skip away like a happy little school girl grandma.

Blooming Leopold SS13

Lauren, from Blooming Leopold is one of our favourites around here, and she just released the Spring/Summer 2013 lookbook for her new handmade collection. Everytime she puts something out, I think she can’t get any better, but she’s outdone herself, once again.

Inspired by the muted colors in old Japanese Films, she hand-dyed each piece using shibori and immersion dyeing methods and all natural dyes, and the results are incredible. The amazing thing about Lauren is that she’s always experimenting with new things, and turning out amazing items, whether they’re re-purposed, or made entirely from scratch. She is, hands down, one of the most creative people out there – and she’s good at what she does! The Blooming Leopold dress I have is still one of my favourites in Summer, and this season, I have my eye on the Sumiko Linen Jumpsuit!

Lauren’s (also) incredibly talented sister Rhiannon from Liebemarlene and the Southerly styled the lookbook, and her husband Drew shot the whole thing.

L’Ecole Des Femmes – Normandie

F1000009 (1)

I only very recently came across L’Ecole Des Femmes. I had been browsing lookbooks trying to get a feel for Larkspur’s upcoming Summer one, and I was pleasantly surprised when I found these images. I can confidently say, almost all their lookbooks are captivating. They have a knack for picking the right photographer, location and models, mashing all those things together and creating images that are utterly breathtaking. This particular one was shot by David Shama in Paris and Normandy (actually click the link, he’s amazing!!!). Model, Adeline Jouan could have one of my favourite faces. I have a soft spot for any girl with a gap tooth and a face that is stunning without copious amounts of make-up (curse you!). Jessica Pare, meet your blonde doppelganger and my new girl crush.

Even if naughty professor and school girl attire is not your cup of tea, I highly suggest checking out L’Ecole Des Femmes. If only for the decades past vibes and some artistic inspiration vibes.

Ali Golden F/W 2013

splash_aw13_NEW_2

Sorry that the shop and blog have been lagging these past couple of weeks. I take the blame entirely. Alex is pulling her weight as usual, but a crazy work week and daily yoga classes (Lindsay and I are doing a 30 day challenge – we go every day!) have my brain feeling like a bowl of oatmeal by the time I get home! I promised I’d have a post up last night before bed, but I totally forgot and cleaned my closet and drank a gin drink instead. Oops! Anyway – here is a please-forgive-me-Alex post, before today’s shop update!

This Ali Golden collection is a Fall/Winter one, but if I’m being honest, Spring has hardly reached Toronto at all, and the cold grey days have me layering sweater on top of sweater just to avoid wearing my Winter coat anymore. I can’t even look at anything colorful in my closet – it just reminds me that I don’t remember what it feels like to be warm.

Enough griping about the weather though (this blog is starting to feel like a journal about how sad the winter makes us!). I would wear every single piece in this collection – and my favourite part, is that I could even wear it to work. Can we also talk about how cute that blonde model’s hair looks with those little flipped out bangs?

Sorry again for being a bad blogger – I’ll be back on my game asap!
