THE WHITEPEPPER A/W ’14

Autumn14THE WHITEPEPPER is one of my favourite brands. Their penchant for creating fun, youthful pieces has consistently been something that speaks to me. The A/W ’14 lookbook brings to mind “exhausted mom”, probably because of the shots of the model serving up white bread, weighing out baking ingredients, serving spaghetti with a sullen look. Its like if an angsty teenager were to become a mother, but way more comical than the real life thing. Now the clothes! I am over the moon for the egg print. I am seeing a lot of novelty print lately, but I don’t think I have seen this yet and I like it. The corduroy dungaree dress is quite possibly my favourite, and is a perfect example of the sort of thing I would like to be wearing this Fall (it scares me that I’m talking about what I’d like to wear in the Fall). We all know I’m a fan of oxford shirts, or well, anything button up really, so I’m especially loving this crisp, simple oxford shirt with one wonderful detail…embroidered beans!! And of course, we can’t talk about the WP without mentioning their signature loose-fitting babydoll dresses. It seems they always come back with some version of that dress, which I think is great, because you could own one with a different print/detail for every day of the week, like some sort of sassy cartoon character that never seems to change clothes and we don’t ever question it. I haven’t been that excited by clothes in a long while, to be perfectly honest. It’s the same thing over and over lately – minimalist, neutrals, shapeless, boring (in my opinion) I hate to say it, but curse you ‘normcore’ – This WP collection made me genuinely excited about clothes again. So thanks The WP, you’re the best.

good night, day pre-fall 2014

10306456_734520803250928_6521156030650224830_nThe weather has been quite warm, and I think it will be staying that way for a good while now, so it seems a bit silly to even be considering warm garments like wool knits. But just a few weeks back Tara-Lynn Morrison, the talented gal behind the Canadian knit-wear label, good night, day, released her Pre-Fall collection, and it is just too good not to share. Strange it seems, just this past weekend I was saying to Ryan how I wish it was socially acceptable to wear a blanket outside during winter without fear of being deemed a wee bit nutty, and behold, the Bloomfield Blanket Lace Wrap – just the sort of thing I have been dreaming of for years now! GND always has such gorgeous, quality knits that I absolutely love collection after collection, so it actually seems ridiculous I do not own my own piece at this point. This is an issue I shall rectify in due time.

Check out the whole collection, lookbook, and past collections here.

Royal Romance

SUMMER_ROYAL_ROMANCE_FOX_BOOK-1Wildfox always produces such stunning lookbooks. Their attention to detail is impeccable, and leaves me with a nice oval shaped mouth producing weird “ooh” and “ahh” noises. That being said, this Summer collection, oh yes, this particular lookbook, I am absolutely smitten with, for obvious reasons. The 60s-dreamy-ethereal-playful vibe is absolutely perfect, and makes me wish I lived inside it. To be totally honest, I have never been a huge fan of Wildfox. Not to say I don’t appreciate what they do, and understand why people are really into it, and there have been pieces I wouldn’t mind owning, but the majority is not really my style. However this collection and lookbook have sort of changed my mind. I’d gladly own most, if not all pieces from it. The polka dot and striped pullovers are amazing, and my god, the sunglasses! 60s, flowers, picnics, cute girl butts, and no bras. I’m sold!

Elizabeth Suzann Spring 2014

Spring_Digital_Final_1_1I love love love Elizabeth Suzann’s Spring 2014 lookbook. While I know it was shot in St. Augustine, FL. it gives me serious European vibes. I don’t know why, I have never even been to Europe, so the only thing I can go off is movies I’ve seen (Before trilogy anyone?), but it seems very relaxed and beautiful in that sense. The pieces are not really a style you can find me wearing, but that doesn’t mean I don’t wholly appreciate her designs, and quite often find myself awing over women who pull off this style with ease. Don’t get me wrong though, if someone were to hand me a bunch of her garments, they would be dear friends of mine while lazing at home, long days at the beach and sipping a cup of coffee on a porch over looking the ocean (getting a little carried away now…). I am particularly smitten with the linen long sleeve midi dress, and could think of a dozen ways I could style it to suit my more is more frame of mind.

Orla Kiely Fall 2014

5

As always, Orla Kiely has brought us an undeniably adorable vintage-inspired collection. While she never really steps outside the box in terms of designs, it’s a line you can always count on for decidedly retro pieces, covetable by every vintage-wearing gal out there. I think pretty well every piece I wouldn’t mind owning, but I’m quite enamored with the above look. The trousers and swing coat in a monochromatic dusty rose is just the sort of thing I would like to be wearing (i know, right? trousers!?) come the colder temperatures (i know, right? why are we talking about cold weather?!). The whole collection feels very 60s, with a little Cher Horwitz-90s sprinkled throughout. I would also like to mention how great the shoes are in this collection! I love the 40s/70s vibes they are giving off. T-straps will never get old in my eyes, but t-straps with a platform and a big sturdy heel, well by George, i think she’s got it! However, the most noteworthy part of this whole collection…the very best thing ever designed…the Bichon purse! BICHONS! C’mon! That purse was invented for me. That breed is one of the most under-appreciated breeds when it comes to novelty dog breed accessories, and near impossible to find. While the bichon they included in the lookbook is very cute – I think it may be a poodle/bichon mix though, and the final one is definitely a toy poodle – I think we could all agree Gus would have been a better choice. He just got groomed, so his head is even the shape of the purse right now. True rounded bichon head. Anyways, I-NEED-THAT-PURSE.
