The Punny Oscars

_DSC8844Meaghan, Danielle and I seem to have a thing for hosting parties. We’ll take any excuse we can to get dressed up, be surrounded by good pals, eat tasty food and have a couple glasses of wine and beer (mostly beer…usually more than a couple). We had a little party at Christmas which I never ended up sharing for whatever reason. I was recently looking back at photos from it, and it really is a shame I didn’t, but it feels a little out of season to post those photos now. Oh well! I was a bit better this time around. Meaghan & Nick had a bunch of the pals over to their place to watch the Oscars, and contribute to our table of punny-snacks. Meaghan loves puns…she’s kind of the queen of puns, so a table full of Oscar-punned snacks was right up her alley. She came up with the names, and we chose the snack we wanted to make. I made brussel sprouts for “American Brussel” and veggie dogs for “Dallas (oscar) Meyer’s Club”. And yes, you do see a bowl full of glow sticks titled “Twelve Years a Rave” – that would be the genius idea of Nick. We were very pleased when Twelve Years a Slave won Best Picture so we had good reason to crack those glowing babies.

Holiday Brunch

DSC_0080

On Sunday Meaghan hosted a little holiday brunch for all the gal pals, which was a day of unabashed indulgence. I helped myself to about 3 mimosas, 3 eggnogs with some spiced whiskey, a crap ton of baked sweet & savory treats, veggie bacon and only a few pieces of fruit (i do not regret it, and neither does my stomach). To be honest, I didn’t even end up snapping shots of the table chalk full of goodies once everyone had arrived (it looks pretty bare in these photos. just like, “oh hey cookies. good breakfast. well done potluck crew.” I swear it was better than this). Once people started to flock in I forgot about my desire to share this day with you, and instead just let the mimosas and “super fun cool classic rap” holiday music take me away.

The writings on the wall

DSC_0080

I thought I’d share with you some of the goodies I have accumulated over the years that I have hanging on my walls. Since I live in a bachelor apartment, I’ve always found it difficult to figure out where to hang things (I have a lot). Since the living and sleeping space exist within the same walls, it’s hard to make each space feel like it’s own. In my case, it just ends up being a hell of a lot of frames and clothing scattered on the walls. I hate it at times, because if I did have my own bedroom, the vision I have for both it and my living room would be much easier to execute. But, c’est la vie. Toronto rent is not kind to singles, and I shouldn’t really complain because I have a very large bachelor (the best kitchen!). Since my apartment is ever changing and the places my things go move around a bunch, I thought I’d just share a few of them, instead of the whole.

1. An amazing 1920’s camisole I got from Lawrence. It’s pretty delicate, so I have only worn it for photo shoot purposes. But it’s so lovely, I couldn’t bare to have it not be seen.
2. The frame in the middle I found on the street outside an art gallery. I guess it was too busted up for them, but not for I. It’s so beautiful, and fun because I can switch up whatever things I like to hang in it.
3. Christopher Plummer. A birthday gift from Meaghan. Why? Have you seen him in The Sound of Music? I’ll forever be attracted to him because of that, and the Beginners.

4. Dried flowers, because why not.
5. Found this frame with the other one, more things to put inside.
6. A lovely nightgown found at Public Butter. I slept and lounged in it for quite awhile, but soon realized it was just too delicate (rips, eep!), so also another wall friend.
7. Clinique Cheron. I found it at Salvation Army and knew it was mean’t for me. Red hair, the best vintage dress, cats & dogs. Pretty much sums up my life.
8. An illustration from this wicked Christian book of contemporary art. I’m by no means religious, but the illustrations are so creepy and so great, I couldn’t pass the book up.
9. Floral needle point love. Found in Elora.
10. A little friend from Meaghan.
11. My newest member(s). Public Butter (again). It has a twin, with different outfits and different dance moves.

No Dumping

s29Well, I think it’s safe to say Fall is officially here. I pulled out my Fall coat from the depths of my closet this morning, and was so glad to have it wrapped around my body, as there was a distinct chill in the air that even a wooley sweater couldn’t thwart. It’s a bit disappointing really, this Summer felt like it didn’t exist. Winter lasted so long here in Toronto, and Summer was so mild, and so pleasant (and so short), I wasn’t ready for the crisper weather just yet. But alas, I have no say in weather conditions. However, there is something so lovely about bundling up in my warm apartment, with a cup of chocolatey chai tea (and a splash of almond milk), reading a good book, or watching a silly tv show. Winter does have it’s positives, but they mostly exist indoors, under warm blankets, and my ridiculous pup clothed in a mouse outfit because the cold weather is not kind to his skin.

This is a bit of a (huge) photo dump. Mostly film pictures I recently got developed from the Summer that didn’t really find a place in any posts, but I still felt I wanted to share. Some are taken by Meaghan, and I have listed those at the bottom of the post.s1
