Rhiannon of Liebemarlene was one of the first fashion bloggers I started following avidly. This dreamy gal, living in the south, wearing perfectly put together outfits, that somehow, only seemed right on her. When she opened her previous online shop, Silent Sundays, it was a regular go-to for me. So you can understand my excitement when Rhiannon announced she is back in the vintage selling game (yay!), with new shop Auraria. Along side her husband Drew, they’ll be curating a lovely collection of silk pieces, fun prints, neato pottery, interesting books and, as she loves to put it, “90’s art teacher necklaces”, which I feel is pretty accurate.

Check out their shop if you haven’t already!

Grey County – Morland Place

DSC_0489I am back from what I think could be my favourite trip to-date. I really had zero expectation for this trip – just a desire to leave the city and enjoy nature to it’s fullest.  Bruce Peninsula and what little of the Fathom Five Marine Parks I saw on Lake Huron/Georgian Bay are truly amazing. I have so many pictures, so this will probably end up in a two parter (or more, because I have film to develop as well). I do not think I even have the words to describe the perfection that I saw.

On our way to Bruce Peninsula National Park, Matt had to take a bathroom break, so we stopped at this Heritage Village, not really expecting to stay long. Neither of us had much interest in it. It reminded me of Upper Canada Village, and I didn’t really feel like taking any sort of tour. But in the field across from the village I saw some really old buildings, and what I thought were abandoned. This peaked our interest and we wandered on over. Boy were we surprised when we found way more than just old buildings. At first we weren’t even sure we were allowed to enter, but we kept going out of curiosity. Once we got onto the grounds, we ran into two women, who asked us if we even knew anything about what this place was (the answer was no). The only information they gave us was that a man about 80 yrs old now, owns 15 acres of the land, and built all the stone work, European and Perennial style gardens, most of the buildings and hedge maze(!!!) himself. We kept joking about an old man peering through windows at us as we wandered the grounds, making the whole thing that much weirder. This man, literally, has a Secret Garden! It felt, to me, like a replica of the garden in said movie. Matt and I kept turning to each other throughout our walk saying “Do you believe this?! Oh, I think today, I will build a hedge maze. And then after that, the Garden of Versailles.” It was truly incredible, and I sort of feel like I made this place up. The pictures do no justice, as his ground were so vast, you’d almost need an aerial view to get a true understanding.

I’ll probably share my photos from Bruce Peninsula next week, but maybe this week, who really knows! And more than likely, there will be no shop update this week, as my schedule is all flippity-do from this trip.

Shop Update with a new look!

etsy51970’s Pale Yellow Halter Dress

Ah! Well this looks a bit different now doesn’t it?! I had a few thinks, and finally decided I would start to model all shop items from now on. Time and time again I’d receive a plethora of messages from people on Etsy asking if they could see items on a model, and I just decided, enough is enough, I shalst just model the clothes right from the get-go. It will be a nice change! It goes without saying I enjoy putting outfits together, so this was a real treat for me on a really stressful day.

I am off to Bruce Peninsula today to rough it in the woods (sort of), and swim in a grotto. I do not plan to look at my phone or be on the internet much, so I’ll be MIA from this here, cyber world. Anything sold in the shop from today until Sunday July 28th, will be shipped on Monday.

BTW! Please pardon Gus. He truly cannot live a single moment without being as close to me as humanly (animaly??) possible. Lucky for me he’s pretty darn cute, and more than likely steals the show. Dog definitely not for sale!

Fruits and Veggies by The Loved One

TLO

If you know me personally, you probably know I have a wee thing for The Loved One. At this point I own two pairs of Floral Remake Shorts (in fact I’m wearing the light pair right now), One Shocking Moment Bra and Bow Tie in black. So, you can understand my excitement when the first of their monthly look books entitled “Fruits and Veggies” was released. TLO’s aesthetic whispers to me in sweet sweet nothings. I cannot ever get enough of it. If ever there was a shop who picked the perfect photographers, most interesting models and delightfully quirky vintage, this would be it (in my opinion).  Put those hats on ma tête and those frocks on my body and i will skip away like a happy little school girl grandma.

You’d be hard pressed to find secluded, quiet spots in Toronto, devoid of any humans. They sort of exist, but they are few and far between. Afterall, Toronto and the GTA holds 11.5 million people (Meg googled this yesterday), so it is perfectly logical that every bit of the city will have at least one other person there at any given time. It is strange for me, coming from suburban Ottawa, with a forest directly behind my families backyard, and having no trouble finding solitude. And god knows I needed it back then.

I fortunately live just a short walk away from a quiet(er) spot of Toronto (that is when Muzik night club is not blaring it’s music at 7pm, and everyone is wearing white and you wonder what happens inside there? And you’re probably lucky you don’t know). I was pressing my mind for quiet spots that I could snap some shots in the early hours of the morning. Scadding Cabin is always a safe bet (Meg and I took some film shots there in the winter), because I don’t think a lot of people know of it’s existence. In the summer it is hidden by large surrounding trees, and the only visitors are usually other photographers, cause there is really not much else to do there.

I was all by myself for quite a bit, which was a true pleasure. I could move about freely without concerning myself with quizzical passer bys: “okay, why is she crouching about, and how come she looks so sad, and why does she keep contorting her body every which way?” Eventually a photographer, make-up artist, and a woman in a giant gown showed up to snap shots of what I assume was for a wedding. Fortunately this cabin has four walls (duh!) and I could scoot  around to the next part when I felt too much like a strange woodland creature.
