I mentioned before that I’ve been having a lot of trouble with my personal style, or rather, I don’t feel a connection to many of the clothes I own. I love pretty well everything I own, I do, but there are a ton of pieces that just don’t get much wear anymore. So, I’ve been making an effort to be a bit more thoughtful about what I do want to wear, acknowledging the pieces that have been getting the most wear and why that is. I think with each season my wants and needs for clothes change. Winter (and I guess Fall), it seems comfort, warmth and ease become far more important to me, or at least, that has been the case this Winter. As for the warmer months, I guess I am not certain yet, although I hear Summery co-ords calling my name. I don’t necessarily think I want a complete style overhaul…ya’ll know I will always love vintage and the ever adorable style of the 60s, but in a way I feel my direction steering more towards the ease of the 70s and wearings pants/trousers far more often. I really don’t think you will see much change around here, however I am starting to go through my closet and pick the pieces I am saying goodbye to (and will be selling here and here) and keeping an eye out for the pieces I would like in my closet. It’s tough for me (a true 1st world problem), having a closet filled with mostly vintage, it feels incredibly painful to part ways with any one of them. Vintage is special, far more special than something you picked up at F21 or H&M (imho), it’s so much harder to let go of. I like keeping vintage pieces – even if I don’t wear them – just to have them as a sort-of relic, like a collection of things (albeit much more overbearing than say a rock collection) I may one day pass down to children and grandchildren (no, I’m not pregnant). Anyhow, my fear of letting go of things is obviously a whole other problem in and of itself, so we won’t go there today…these are the things I have been eyeing (some super expensive…these are just examples, not necessarily the exact pieces I would buy), do not own anything like them and would very much like in my closet.

It actually feels like winter now, so having a scarf wrapped around my neck is an absolute necessity. I wear my scarf many a ways, depending on the strength of wind and chill in the air, so I figured I’d show you those ways, and maybe you’ll learn something new (or you won’t) and you can let me know how you like to style your scarf. You guys seemed to really take to this scarf on 
Do The Wrap Around: A favourite. Just wrap around the neck; you can let your end pieces hang evenly, or maybe one longer than the other, like 
Shawl We: When it’s real blustery out it’s sometimes nice to treat your scarf as a shawl/blanket (that’s if you have a massive – ie., Lenny Kravitz – scarf like this); just drape over your shoulders and pretend your bed is spending the day with you.
Great Ascot!: I don’t do this one often, but if it’s real windy, you can be sure this style will keep the scarf on your neck; just pull one end of your scarf through, just the way you would tying a shoe lace to create this ascot-y vibe.
Don Draper: Well, an obvious one I guess, but a one no less. Just wrap and drape one end over the shoulder. This look is smart, but slightly annoying on a windy day.
Bubble Bubble Cowl and Trouble: I like this one a lot; it looks good, it’s easy to do and it keeps your neck warm (not to mention it feels like a neck pillow). Just fold your scarf in half, place along the back of your neck and pull the loose ends through the loop.

Dress & sweater & tights: H&M (old)
This winter really has been the mildest one I can remember in a long time – it’s made me a real happy bb – but yesterday was definitely v freezing, and of course it was the day I planned to take these photos. The better part of my brain told me to shoot inside, but of late I really have been enjoying shooting outdoors. I used to be a huge serial indoor shooter (???), but my home still has a lot of work to be done and I’m lacking some pretty essential furniture pieces, so most of what you have seen inside my apartment thus far is pretty much it, which becomes kind of repetitive for photos after awhile (it’s also why I haven’t done an apartment tour, which I know some of you have been asking for). So outdoors I went, and braved the cold to get these shots. I’ve become a little more savvy when it comes to shooting outside in the winter by myself. It may seem like common sense, but the amount of times I forgot to bring gloves was nearing on countless. I now make sure to always bring mitts and then also gloves, so I am able to fiddle with my camera more easily while still remaining somewhat warm. No, you don’t see either of those things in these photos, and while my mitts and gloves are both for practicality and aesthetics, neither quite went with the outfit, so I popped my gloves in my pockets while posing and popped them out in between shots. Other things you often don’t see in my photos is my purse, which I use to focus on while setting up a shot and a scarf, which also gets the nix if it messes with the look. I often wonder if that’s dishonest, to not be photographing all the things I am actually wearing to get from point A to point B, but most of the time the things that don’t appear in the images are the things I would not be wearing if the weather permitted. Scarves, yes, I do actually like scarves, which is why they do often appear in my photos, but gloves, I would never wear a glove, ever, if I had a choice – unless I was trying to achieve a v 50s inspired look, then and only then, would I wear a glove, and those would be evening gloves rather than winter gloves, which serve a totally different purpose. What can I say? I hate even wearing socks, so you can imagine what a glove feels like to me.

My plan was to take some really adorable and festive New Years photos, but they didn’t quite work out the way I wanted. However, when I started going through the captures, they kind of turned out better than I expected…a few cute, yes, but a lot of them mostly funny, and ya’ll know I like funny.
