Something Blue

DSC_1301

My parents were in town visiting for the weekend, which was a true pleasure because I really don’t get to see them very often. What little time we had together was spent eating delicious pizza (Pizza Libretto), watching a movie, brunching and making silly jokes. I was sad to see them go yesterday, as I always am.

I’ve been so busy lately with my upcoming show, and to top it off, I injured my leg during a rehearsal and got quite ill for a day last week. But there is not much time for me to rest up, the show is less than 2 weeks away, and if you know me personally, I’m not the best at giving myself a break, even when I probably need it the most. Although, I say that, but most of last night was spent on the couch with Matt, watching Girls, Enlightened and The Americans.

The skirt I’m wearing is actually one we plan to list in our shop. The clasps at the waistband need some repairing, so once I have the chance to sit down and sew, you should see it in the shop in the next coming weeks. It really is a lovely skirt. I think I wore it like 3 times last week.

Chloë Sevigny for Opening Ceremony Fall’13

chloe1

Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony Fall’13 Collection is a pretty fun and spirited one. Inspired by youthquakers in the 1960’s, it’s filled with some Twiggy-esque shift dresses and pastel swing coats, all with a hint of 90’s vibes – the maxi dress, head scarves and platform shoes. I’m totally in love with the highwaisted houndstooth trousers, and if I wore pants more often, I think these would be the pair I would never remove from my gams! I have not been entirely impressed by Chloe’s past few collections for OC, but she seems to have returned with this one. And I am always pleased to see her modelling her own designs. No matter how old she gets, she always seems to be the voice of youthfulness, which I find endearing and lovable.

Oh the weather outside is weather

DSC_0874

We were hit with another snowfall this weekend, which meant a lot of indoor time spent with my recuperating dog, friends and Matt. You’d think because I grew up in Ottawa I would be used to an abundance of snow and sub zero temperatures and I would be able to brave this weather, but I am a wimp. Going outdoors at this point is mostly meant for getting from one location to another. In my case, dance rehearsals and eating pho mostly. I have a dance show coming up March 16th, called Pandora’s Box, in which I will be performing the role of Pandora. If you are in Toronto, you should definitely come see it. There is such great talent  here, and I feel so lucky to be dancing beside such wonderful and inspiring people.

It is Family Day today, which means no work for Meg and I. Although, we have been keeping busy with steaming clothes and taking photos of some new items for our shop this week. We have some pretty cute Easter dresses to share, so keep an eye out.

Confezioni Crosby A/W’12 Lookbook

confezioni1

I know Confezioni Crosby’s A/W Lookbook has been circling the internet for quite sometime now (it’s not even 2012 anymore!!!) and spring collections are the new, but I have been in love with this lookbook for awhile and thought I’d share, or I guess re-share if you have already seen it. And after all, it is still very much winter here in Toronto, so I feel this still applies to me, at least.

I’m really into the styling in this lookbook. It appeals to my sensibilities right now. For awhile I was dressing pretty simple, not much pattern, clean looking outfits, in cream, white, navy, grey, brown and blacks. But recently I’ve felt a desire to dress a little more experimental – mixing colors I may not normally. I may not ever master the art of mixing patterns, but its something I do wish to try. I’m feeling inspired right now, and this lookbook definitely excites me. I could pretty much see myself wearing any one of these outfits in their entirety. Okay, maybe not the purple tights, I don’t think I will ever like purple.

Bridges and Balloons

Joanna+Newsom+Joanna

I think I first started listening to Joanna Newsom when I was 14 years old. I spent a lot of time at the home of a close friend who I took dance lessons with. She had an older sister that, at the time, I thought was the coolest person around. Not to mention I had a secret crush (maybe not so secret) on her boyfriend. I was introduced to a lot of different music at this time because my friend would play me all the music her older sister listened to. Being dancers, we were obsessed with new music. I didn’t quite get Joanna Newsom at first. Her voice sounded odd to me. But with time I couldn’t stop coming back to her. There was a fairy-like quality to her voice, that was so genuine to me.  She made playing a harp seem very appealing, and not an instrument that an old eccentric woman would play alone in her boudoir (although, I’d probably find that cool now). As I got older and my fashion sense changed from bullet belts and platform boots and Marilyn Manson to a not-so-harsh vintage feel, I started to also just love her look. The way she dresses is much like the sound of her voice – like a frolicking nymph in a perfect dress, hiding in the depths of a mystical woods, and you’re always trying to catch a glimpse of her to prove that she is actually real (you really need to hear her voice if this doesn’t make sense to you). Her style seems effortless because it pretty much consists of a vintage dress, but some of the most interesting ones I have seen. This appeals to me because I have an affinity to unique vintage dresses, all from different eras, but all carrying a special quality that gives some consistency to my closet.

If you like pretty girls, in pretty dresses with pretty voices, dating super funny guys, then you will adore Joanna Newsom.
