Ballad of Magazine

ballad6 This 1960’s Brigitte Bardot-inspired editorial shot by Micaela Hoo, for the latest edition of Ballad Of Magazine – “Summer of ’63” Issue is for lack of better words (and tired brain), adorable and dreamy. Model Tate Moore looks like a little china doll in her own right, and styling/hair & makeup by Erin and Mich adds to this whole “dollhouse” vibe I am feeling. It’s like Barbie came to life and is hanging out in The Oakland Hills at the historic Claremont Resort and Hotel. All the ladies who were involved in this shoot work pretty magically together, and I’d love to see more by them!

Jelly Belly in The Distillery District

photo (15)

How did it become Monday already?! This weekend flew by. Meg has gone off to Catskills, NY with her bff, and I have been stalking her instagram making myself so envious of all the amazing things she is doing and seeing.  I’m sure she’ll have plenty of pics to share with us when she is back. Yay!

Now me you ask, well, Matt and I spent most of our Saturday in The Distillery District, seeing Kim’s Convenience, a play one of  Matt’s pals from an old show he worked on was acting in. It was SO good! Matt and I kept having to hold back our sentimental tears at pretty much every moment. After that we had some snacks and beers at Mill St. Brew Pub, bought some baked goodies and walked around pretending to be tourists. Sunday I had a busy day of dance. It was Toronto’s Choreographer’s Ball last night, so I was dancing my little heart out on stage with my dance company, A.I.M. Always a fun and inspiring night. And one of the few events where pretty much everyone from the Toronto dance scene shows up to. It’s like a stroll down memory lane sometimes.

This shift dress I’m wearing could be one of my favs. I very much love anything with geometric prints or crazy floral patterns. It does however sometimes make me look like I have a pot belly, but that could also be because I have the most horrifying posture. I’m not sure how I did ballet for 19 years and could still have the posture of a jelly bean.

After a few hours of banging our heads against a wall trying to figure out how best to upload this thing – we’re finally ready to share the final Larkspur Summer 2013 lookbook with you all!

Kira worked her magic, like she always does, and managed to create a Lookbook Alex and I are so in love with, and so excited to share with you, and right in the nick of time, because we were starting to feel like all the odds were stacked against this  shoot ever even happening at all!

We also updated the shop with a lot of the Summer items in the lookbook – check it out here!

You can view the full Lookbook by clicking on the photo above, but we’ve also added a Lookbooks section to the main page of the blog. Click here to get to it.

The photos are also posted to our Tumblr and Facebook accounts.

Clifton Hill

Niagara Falls is one of those places that is ultra touristy, and could make me feel really overwhelmed and anxious, but instead it makes me really, really, unbelievably happy…

Alex and I have had to postpone shooting our Summer lookbook about a half a dozen times for a million scheduling and weather issues. Sunday was the day that we decided – rain or shine – it had to get done. The weather network spent the week terrorizing us with stupid little lightning bolt symbols and  obscenely high P.O.P.s. When Sunday finally rolled around, we woke up to what felt like a monsoon, which put a bit of a damper on our plans to shoot at the Scarborough Bluffs (an escarpment by the water in the East end of Toronto). Luckily, we have a genius by our side, and Kira turned the whole miserable day around by suggesting we drive out to Niagara and shoot a road-trip themed lookbook – which is exactly what we ended up doing, and we couldn’t be more excited to share the end results with you (soon!).

All lookbook related excitement aside though, once we were in Niagara, the weather seemed to take our side again, and we had an absolutely perfect day. We explored the strip with all the weird tacky motels and campgrounds, and ate at a diner shaped like a flying saucer, we shopped at kitchsy souvenir shops and rambled up and down Clifton Hill drinking Slushies and letting ourselves get overwhelmed by all the sights and sounds of the Midway. By the end of the day we had new freckles and frizzy hair from the sun and the humidity, and we were exhausted in a way that only perfect days with best friends can make you feel. We made dinner together and looked through the photos and I went to bed feeling extra sentimental about how much I love my friends.

Shop Update

flowerskirt21960’s Floral High Waisted Pencil Skirt

Shop update is a little late this week, but that is quite alright. We’ve got some goodies in the shop today! A little 1960’s, 70’s and 90’s. I just watched the whole Before trilogy in the last week, so the maxi dresses we have in the shop today seem quite fitting (well, if you are watching Before Sunrise). And of course, I always love some good 60’s and 70’s vibes, so this update is pleasing to mine eyes. Pop on by and take a gander for yourself!
